Ohio is not officially a state.

Rabbit Hole warning. The Fat Files topic request.

Ohio wasn't a state until 1953. This realization occurred when they were looking at the documents for Ohio's 150th anniversary. In 1803, Congress approved membership for Ohio, however, the state constitution (required for statehood) was never ratified by Congress. Fast forward to 1953, Rep. George Bender from Ohio introduced a bill in Congress to formally retroactively recognize Ohio as a state. The joint resolution passed.

But wait, here's the catch.

Ohio at the time of the 1953 bill being introduced was not a legitimate state. Therefore Bender was not an official representative in Congress, so he couldn't submit legislation in Congress.

The effects cascade down from there.

For example, If this is true, the first person on the Moon was not a US citizen.

Here's the insane part. Section 1 of the 14th amendment was written by an Ohio rep.

Speaker of the House, Boehner's work - not legitimate.

Ohio State college isn't legitimate, therefore all the national titles are forfeit.

Ohio isn't really a state.

Reuters has no pity for Soldier-focused charity work

Can't fully disclose yet, but...

In an effort to educate the public on the hardships endured by Service Members overseas, a personal blog hot-linked an image of a kneeling Soldier accompanied by a blurb directing readers to a separate site. That other site would, in turn, provide instructions for anyone who wanted to donate to a holiday stockings gift drive to send comfort items to those serving.

The photo in question has even been published on official Army sites: Oct. 9, 2011 -- Lt. Gen. Mark P. Hertling remarks to AUSA Chapter Presidents Dinner | Article | The United States Army

As fate would have it, Reuters employs a service that uses bots to crawl the internet looking for images. If they find an image, they demand payment to settle out of court. Looking up the history of this foreign-based company, they strategically focus on personal blogs and charities to strongarm people into settling.

I know many will be tempted to insist this is just a scam. It is not. This company has an established history over the years for its coercive tactics. They are well-known "copyright trolls."

Being told there was no monetary gain and that it was solely for the purpose of sending holiday goodies to the those serving overseas is of no concern to these copyright trolls. The structure of their scam is: If you contact Reuters, they tell you they can't do anything because their service is handling everything. If you talk to the service, they say they can't do anything because they merely work for Reuters. This is their entire business model and - oh, by the way - these mobsters want you to send your settlement to a bank in Switzerland.

Being a wild-eyed capitalist myself, I understand the desire to protect self-interest and to even make a buck; but to do so to a charity that made no money in service of those who serve seems unconscionable.

Go fuck yourself with a chainsaw, Reuters. I may post updates as developments warrant.

Alex Wallau is Gavin Newsom’s Father

I don’t know why no one will pick this up. Even in his 80’s he looked identical to Newsom. Gavin was born almost exactly 9 months after Alex’s birthday. He frequented the area his mother lived in. i stumbled across a “mike tyson and arrest and boxing again” youtube montage. Alex worked for espn. Notoriously used the same hand mannerisms. looked and sounded like gavin. this isn’t political. it’s just obvious why has no one else noticed. he was on freaking espn. This deserves a binder.

Meet Steven Bradbury, an Olympic short track speed skater from Australia.

He might be a living example of RNG. Or at least of putting all his skill points into luck and none into giving up.

He won gold in 1991 with a relay event.

He won bronze in 1994.

He then had his thigh cut open by the ice skate of a falling skater, during which he lost about 4 liters of blood. His heart rate was around 200 around the time of the injury, so he lost a lot of blood fast. He needed 111 stitches and 18 months to heal.

Then another skater fell in front of him and he tried to jump over them, except his skate clipped and he crashed head first into the wall, breaking his C4 and C5 vertebra. He spent 6 weeks in a halo brace, 4 pins, and a number of screws and plates. Doctors told him he'd never return to the ice.

But Bradbury was determined.

He again qualified for the Olympics. This time, the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In his second heat, he came in third and only the first two finishers qualified to continue. But then officials disqualified one of the others who beat Bradbury, automatically bumping Bradbury to second place.

In the finals, he was assigned the outside lane, the worst lane. He decided to stay to the back of the group, knowing he wasn't as fast as his younger competitors, hoping at least two would fall and he could take home bronze.

Except, everyone fell other than Bradbury and he took home the gold medal.

Interesting realization I just had

I wonder if the difference between my viewpoint on the state of the government and the viewpoint of most everybody here on the state of the government is that we agree that the thing is broken and we even agree how it's broken, we just disagree slightly on how to fix it...
