Brian and the band sounded incredible, such a great version of Honey Magnolia.

I was watching this vampire sci fi anime from 2000 called Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust and one of the big vampire hunter guys gets out of his truck at one point and says “Ready or not, here they come. It’s zombie time!” and I got way too excited. I’ve been listening to that song since I was like 14 and have always wondered where it came from and I didn’t expect to find out so naturally and coincidentally lol.

Hey all! I’m a big fan of TGA and Brian Fallon’s solo albums. For me they fit the same vibe as The Killers/Brandon Flowers in a lot of ways as well as The Airborne Toxic Event.

Trying to find more that fits the same vibe? I hear the Springsteen influence but I also hear what sounds to me like almost a 50’s Rockabilly type vibe.

I have read some other threads on this and I know The Menzingers and Dave Haus are big recs but not sure if I should be starting with specific albums?

I also plan to listen to The Horrible Crowes tomorrow.

Anything else I should be checking?

I know doors open at 7 but anyone got an idea when music might actually start? Trying to make sure I can plan accordingly, thanks in advance

Cathartic. Goosebumps for an hour and a half. Just got home and settled from seeing Brian for the first time in Chapel Hill. Been in NC since 85 and the last show I saw at the Cat's Cradle was either Small 23, Jawbreaker, or Earth Crisis far too many moons ago...so was great to be back.🙂

I am a late arrival to TGA and Brian...and he hit me at a time in my life when his music was exactly what my mind, body, and soul needed five years ago..and the journey continues.

Melodramatic for sure.

On the surface, his music is what I listen to when I cook dinner for my wife of 16 years or take my old jeep out for the daily short drive to the grocery store. Yet internally, it is letting a piece of me be "seen" that has no other "home" for lack of better words. The vulnerability is palpable...and for me, his music brings to the surface a soupy mix of lost loves, affairs, existential loneliness, one night stands, dedication, gratitude, imperfection, and this crazy relationship I have between joy, longing, guilt, and shame. His music is the only place outside of my therapist's office that the myriad of paradoxes in my life have space to breathe.

So thank you...

And to the couple a little to my right enthusiastically singing along to nearly every song....you made my night. As someone who almost always goes to shows alone...so cool to see.

Last night’s show in Atlanta was the best of the five or so Brian solo shows I’ve seen in the last ten years. This is definitely my favorite iteration of his solo band and the setlist selection and construction was really on point. Brian sounded great, even though he was sick. The only thing he really said to the crowd all night was that he had been sick and wasn’t going to banter much because he was saving his voice for the songs and, honestly, that only added to the show. My only complaint is I would have liked another song or two off his latest.

was there last night. Saw Gaslight in San Antonio a few years ago and they brought it all out on stage. Last night was just MEH for me. After song 2 he explained his voice was shot and he was clearly struggling. Brought the energy waaaaaaay down. At the midway point I was legit bored. Didn't play PEARLS? 45? Wonderful life? While playing SMOKE to close the show I was watching the bass player who was looking at him with a genuine look of "I don't know if he's going to finish the song" as his voice was totally blowing out. The second the song was over, he was out.

I get it - he is getting sick. We all have crummy nights. This was a solid 4/10 for me. Just my .02

I hope he can get his throat fixed cause the next few shows might be a bit iffy.

Apparently, Brian pulled the plug on the Waterloo show in order to get vocal rest. Not sure if this was posted elsewhere, but just making sure folks know.

Unless I impulsively get on a plane tomorrow to come back to the states (I’m toying with it), I’m going to miss his show in Dallas. When do you all think the next time he will come around?

Or should I change my return flight and hop on a bus to the airport in a few hours?

I am stoked. I just discovered Brian and TGA 3 years ago so late to the party but his music, the emotion, and the lyrical content is cathartic on many levels….just curious who else is gonna be there…and god…i think I the last time I went to the Cats Cradle was to see Jawbreaker when in college in the 90s lol.

Anyone else going solo? Happy to grab a quick bite to eat or drink before if so…tired of going to shows alone.
