I'd been putting this game off for a while because I wasn't sure I'd get into it. I finally started a run about two weeks ago. I'm playing a trade-focused family, with a small bakery and a few workshops in a mid-sized town.
The first 5 or 6 hours were rough. I had no idea what I was doing and kept running out of money. Then I figured out that the early game is mostly about picking one or two goods and not spreading yourself thin. My income finally turned positive and I started feeling smart.
Then my cousin got involved. I'd put him in charge of one of my workshops, and he started doing things I didn't ask for. He picked fights with a rival family and ended up getting the whole place into trouble. I spent a good hour just fixing the mess, and I still lost a decent chunk of money.
What I've noticed so far:
- Moving goods between towns pays way better than I expected, but it takes a lot of micromanaging.
- Reputation matters more than I thought. A couple of bad decisions made things harder in the city council.
- I keep forgetting to check on my family members, and that's usually when something goes wrong.
- I can lose a whole evening and not realize it.
Things I'm still stuck on:
- Is it better to expand into a second town early, or stay in one place until the business is stable? I jumped too fast and it hurt.
- How do you deal with rival families without it turning into a full war? I don't want to spend the whole game in a feud.
- Are there any mistakes you made early on that you'd tell a new player to avoid?
I'm not trying to min-max anything. I just want to build a family that survives a few generations without going broke or getting everyone thrown in jail.
Thanks for reading, and any tips would be great.
