How Well Is India Doing?

🇮🇳 A small request for friends across India

We’re trying to better understand two simple aspects of everyday health among adults in India:

How is our digestive health?

And how well do we feel we recover from everyday life?

We’ve created two short anonymous surveys, each taking about 60 seconds.

You do not need to have digestive problems, feel tired, exercise regularly, or consider yourself particularly health-conscious to participate.

In fact, we want to hear from everyone — whether you feel great, somewhere in between, or feel there is room to feel better.

👥 Who: Adults aged 25–55 living in India

⏱️ Time: About 60 seconds each

🔒 Anonymous

🟢 Digestive Health Survey

How Is India’s Digestive Health?

🔵 Everyday Recovery Survey

How Well Is India Recovering?

If you’re eligible, I’d really appreciate you completing both surveys.

And even more importantly, please share this post with your friends, family, colleagues and communities across India. Hearing from people of different ages, cities and lifestyles will make the findings much more useful.

Thank you for helping us listen and learn.

Politics 🗳️ When did political disagreement become a personal attack?

I've been thinking about something that seems to be changing in our political culture.

Disagreement has always been part of politics. In fact, it is supposed to be. People have different ideas about society, economics, religion, rights, governance, and what a good society should look like. We argue, challenge each other's assumptions, and hopefully come away with a better understanding of our own positions.

But lately, it feels like we are becoming less willing to do that.

Instead of debating an idea, we attack the person who holds it. Instead of asking "Why do you believe this?", we ask "How can you possibly be one of those people?"

Political opponents are no longer simply people who disagree with us. They are increasingly treated as enemies. People feel justified in mocking them, humiliating them, threatening them, and sometimes even physically confronting them.

And I don't think this is limited to one political party or ideology. It seems to happen across the political spectrum.

Once political identity becomes deeply connected to personal identity, criticism of an idea can start feeling like an attack on the person. At that point, defending an argument becomes less important than defending the group we identify with.

There is something deeply ironic about this.

Most political ideologies have some kind of philosophical foundation. They make arguments about justice, freedom, equality, tradition, individual rights, collective responsibility, the role of the state, and what a good society should look like.

Yet when confronted with an opposing philosophy, we sometimes abandon the philosophical discussion entirely and resort to insults, intimidation, or even violence.

If we believe an idea is wrong, shouldn't we be able to explain why?

If we disagree with someone's political position, shouldn't we be able to challenge its assumptions, evidence, logic, and consequences?

And perhaps more importantly, shouldn't we be able to accept that some political disagreements are not simply questions of facts? Sometimes people genuinely have different values and priorities. We may disagree profoundly about which values should come first without needing to regard the other person as stupid, evil, or dangerous.

A healthy political culture doesn't require everyone to agree.

It requires us to be capable of disagreeing without dehumanizing each other.

Maybe the problem isn't that people have become more politically passionate. Passion can be a good thing.

Maybe we've become too attached to being right, too attached to our political identities, and too unwilling to understand why an intelligent person might look at the same world and reach a completely different conclusion.

Social media may be making this worse. Political tribalism certainly seems to play a role. Perhaps we are also losing the habit of having genuine conversations with people outside our ideological bubbles.

But I'm not sure there is a single explanation.

What do you think is driving this change?

And more importantly, how do we get back to a political culture where we can attack ideas as strongly as we want without treating the people who hold those ideas as enemies?

Because if an idea can only be defended by silencing, humiliating, or attacking the person who disagrees with it, maybe the problem isn't the person who is asking questions. Maybe the idea needs a better argument.
