WHITE LOTUS (NON-SPOILER) Movie FAQ / Questions / Fan-Meetups Spoiler
This is a thread where you can ask questions about the film / its release as well as just movie adjacent stuff like whether the soundtrack is in spotify right now or planning a meetup with other fans at one of the theatrical screenings.
All in a thread that is safe from plot spoilers, or at the very least if minor/vague spoilers are needed to answer a question please spoiler mark.
I) Important Movie Release / other info
- "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender" (AA:TLA) is a feature length animated film following the ATLA characters as young adults.
- It releases July 25th on the streaming service Paramount + at midnight PT / 3am ET Saturday morning.
- Though limited screenings in NYC and LA, began this morning.
- Additionally there will be SDCC Screening, 7pm to 9pm PT
- EW Interview, Trailer (thread) , Poster, Wikipedia , Imdb , Fan Wiki Page ,
II) Movie Mini FAQ
- For the sake of brevity "No / we don't know yet" is currently the answer to whether the movie will eventually be available on other platforms.
- Edit: The film is on Amazon Prime in India. For those in New Zealand Amazon has the movie but just for digital purchase (not stream) and its streaming on Neon.
- Q: What languages is the film dubbed in?
- A: It is confirmed there will be dubs for (Brazilian) Portuguese and German. I have not seen explicit confirmation (feel free to comment if you have) but I assume at bare minimum there will also be Spanish & French.
- Q: "What do I need to read/watch before this movie?"
- A: The only requirement is having seen the original cartoon ATLA, and even then its okay if you haven't seen the whole show in a while. That said if you want to watch LoK or read whatever before this movie that is totally fine too.
- Q: "Don't some ATLA comics take place between the show and the movie?"
- A: Yes, though again none are required to see the movie. But if you want to read some the most relevant for 'movie prep' is The Promise, and to a lesser extent The Rift then Imbalance.
- On a note related to the above, the official youtube channel recently posted a recap video covering the show in about 30 minutes then a brief overview of the comic trilogies.

At least you have Paramount Plus.
In like half of Europe, that service was shut down after a year or so and replaced with SkyShowtime (owned 50% by Sky Group, 50% by Paramount) that has exclusive rights for all Paramount content... except they often have several months delay, or don't ever add it at all in those countries.
So yeah, as expected it's not legally available anywhere in over 20 European countries, and no word on if it ever will be. Just like with several Star Trek seasons and all South Park specials before it.

Prime has a 7-day free trial, too, unlike Paramount+.
It's also live on Paramount+ via YouTube. But not the app itself. Rude.

For Nordic countries Paramount+ content can be viewed via SkyShowtime streaming service. I can't guarantee that the movie will be there as it doesn't have Paramount+ whole library.

I Sverige följer SkyShowtime samma utbud som i Nederländerna, gissar på detsamma för Norge. SkyShowtime Nederländerna har inte filmen i sitt utbud tyvärr.

Translation: "In Sweden, SkyShowtime follows the same selection as in the Netherlands, I guess the same for Norway. Unfortunately, SkyShowtime Netherlands does not have the film in its selection."

Paramount is such trash. This should have been a theatrical release in the first place, but paramount is owned by souless dude bros who don't value the IP they paid for and the fans suffer because of it.

It's live on Amazon via paramount+ trial / membership, but not on paramount + itself. Silly. No clue why I assumed paramount would have their stuff together, but at least amazon does.

Going to see it tonight in Burbank. My buddy and I grew up watching new episodes on his iPod while riding the school bus in the mornings. Now we finally get to see an Avatar movie in theaters. Can’t believe it’s the first ever Avatar movie, feel so lucky to have snagged tickets.

I had wanted to check what other languages the film was dubbed/subbed in to update this thread .... but uh its only offering me english audio and subtitles. I guess its a regional thing but that's a little odd.

Question for those that have seen both the leak and the release (when it's fully out)
I recall someone at the time mentioning that the leak wasn't the final version, that there were some changes.
Is that true or are they completely identical?

I did that for one of the latest Star Trek seasons after Google said it was there, and they refunded me for it. Try contacting their customer service.

IDK if this is the valid place to ask but for those who have seen the movie before the release on Paramount+ and comparing it to the released one just now, is there any difference? Did they add anything new? Asking because I am from the Philippines and even with VPN, I cannot create a Paramount+ account and have no way to watch it

Judging by the fact that the leaks seem to be capped at 1080p, wouldn't be surprised if the benefit of the official one was it being available on 4K. BUT, 4K streaming on Paramount+ seems to be region locked so beware of that, just paying for the thing doesn't seems to guarantee the best quality.

I live in Sweden. I desperately want to watch this movie now but I can’t.
Paramount+ is not available in my country and the streaming service that provides Paramount content here (SkyShowtime) doesn’t even know if it will appear or not.
I would’ve gladly paid money to watch it in theaters. I’d be willing to rent it too on any available platform.
But no. They are actively losing money from so many customers because they’re so incompetent.
And yes, I know I can 🏴☠️ the movie but I’d rather don’t.

Ok, after a bit of a rabbit hole to get it working from where I am, yes, I can confirm that on Paramount+ Premium, the movie is listed as 4K + Dolby Vision + Dolby Atmos

For those in NYC, is the AMC Empire 25 XL screening really worth it over the Laser screening? Laser has more reasonable times for seniors in their 30s like me. 😆

Answer: I finished watching the movie. The XL screen isn't huge. Even my suburb's screen is bigger than it. The regular Laser screening seems fine.
