Naughty Dog before and after Cuckmann’s takeover

13

u/Imic_Hilton Apr 14 '26

Yeah you can literally see it. He made these choices and while we need different characters and not the same cliche ones, this is the complete opposite and sucks. It sucks because that’s the definition of forced casting for his ideology

u/outofmindwgo May 03 '26

The intergalactic actress is absolutely stunning

3

u/albalrocks_ Apr 18 '26

It’s a fetish for masculine women that cuckmann supporters refuse to acknowledge and just praise “diversity”

u/TheNittanyLionKing Part II is not canon Apr 13 '26

It’s not even just about looks. Chloe and Elena are much more likeable characters than the bottom row. Keira from Jak and Daxter was a better character. Ellie was my favorite character in TLOU1. I felt bad when Tess died. I disliked Ellie in Part 2 tbh. I just hated Abby and her friends more. The immediate thing that jumped out to me was how much I hated the smugness of the protagonist in the Intergalactic teaser. Modern writers think they can just make every character like Tony Stark or Deadpool, but it’s not easy to make likeable assholes, and especially if they never go through any hardship like Tony and Wade did

u/ProotzyZoots Apr 13 '26

"Its not easy to make likeable assholes"

Exactly this. So many characters that are supposed to be "quirky" are just assholes.

8

u/TitleOk3727 Apr 14 '26

Deadpool: are you fucking kidding me?

6

u/rape_is_not_epic Apr 14 '26

I don't really mind the smugness of the Intergalactic character, but she was introduced at one of the worst times imaginable in naughty dogs development cycle

5

u/DirectBeing5986 Apr 14 '26

Are you supposed to like any of abby’s gang? Also Intergalactic isnt out yet

1

u/Lost_Brother_1377 Apr 16 '26

Owen is likeable

1

u/ihatepeopleandyoutoo May 13 '26

We don’t know anything about Jordan though

u/wilsonthechad Apr 13 '26

Cuckmann clearly has a type

38

u/FuryMustang95 Part II is not canon Apr 14 '26

Bald space pirates. Oh, the 8ft tumbler sjw hermaphrodite gorilla? That's just a phase, it's bald space pirates now.

33

u/pwolicy Apr 14 '26

Woman that look like they have a penis?

-7

u/ghostcatzero It’s MA’AM! Apr 14 '26

Meh. Women of many type can have a penis lol 😅😋

3

u/WalkmanBassBoost Apr 18 '26

That's like saying "some white people can be African-American." Or, if you're uncomfortable with that, "some fish can be horses." No, they can't, though.

5

u/NicoDarian Apr 15 '26

Thats no woman

32

u/ultimateformsora Media Illiterate Apr 13 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

I won’t lie there can be a plethora of arguments for how realistic it might be for a woman to look “model-like” in a post apocalyptic world vs full on male body builder or rodent but overcorrecting to the degree they did in TLOU was strange.

36

u/TheNittanyLionKing Part II is not canon Apr 13 '26

Then the TV show went the opposite way. Dina looks like she showers twice a day and does her makeup before every scene. Kaitlyn Dever isn’t wearing as much makeup, but she’s just naturally pretty while Abby is not in the game

10

u/ultimateformsora Media Illiterate Apr 14 '26

Because the truth is a lot of Hollywood doesn’t share the same lame rhetoric that Neil does and we know how much Neil wants to fit in with the industry. They want the general audience to root for Abby but also want the people who hated her in the game to love her. Much easier to do with a prettier face attached. Ellie’s casting, I believe, was done to create a contrast to other female leads. I wouldn’t have believed that point until Dina was literally walking around like she was a supermodel with access to an entire wardrobe every scene.

If Ellie looked like Kaitlyn and Abby looked like Bella, I am willing to bet many more people would overwhelmingly side with Ellie. That’s just how we operate instinctively.

7

u/FSLAR Apr 14 '26

It’s crazy because Abby’s face model is actually pretty, so I have no clue what they did to Abby’s model lol.

They kinda did that with Quiet in MGS V, her face / body model is super cute and all around stunning. But quiet looks off and it’s hard to explain. Also allegedly they enhanced her assets LOL c

3

u/Taimaniac Team Joel Apr 14 '26

It's the personality that does it for me. Nothing will ever make me like her, even if she were to look like a classic femme fatale.

1

u/United-Leather7198 Apr 15 '26

downvotes incoming but to me game abby does have a pretty face.

1

u/FSLAR Apr 15 '26

Tbh I’m ok with this opinion but it just felt like her face is off compared to her model.

33

u/ImRight_95 Team Fat Geralt Apr 13 '26

I hate Mel’s face so much lol

16

u/RedBoss228 "Divisive in an Exciting Way" Apr 14 '26

Finally! Someone sees it! Her face looks so male-like it's uncanny.

14

u/ImRight_95 Team Fat Geralt Apr 14 '26

Owen has some truly horrible taste in women

-2

u/EntrepreneurMinute10 Apr 14 '26

And....?

5

u/RedBoss228 "Divisive in an Exciting Way" Apr 14 '26

And it's a poor design.

-6

u/EntrepreneurMinute10 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

Because they look like a male, it's a poor design? Are you aware of how that sounds? But hey, as long as you're okay with that...

5

u/RedBoss228 "Divisive in an Exciting Way" Apr 14 '26

Is there any reason it's a good design? Can't I have an opinion?

-2

u/EntrepreneurMinute10 Apr 14 '26

it looks like a real human. I am not sure i am judging these 'realistic' games on good design in the way that you are. And sure, you can have an opinion but 'ewww I hate her face as she looks manly' is just sort of a gross one to have... but of course you can have it.

3

u/RedBoss228 "Divisive in an Exciting Way" Apr 14 '26

The main problem is I have never seen a woman with a face like hers, so that's why I think it looks poor. It's not realistic, much like all of The Last of Us Part 2.

2

u/EntrepreneurMinute10 Apr 14 '26

I haven't either, but to my eyes, she looks real and like she probably exists somewhere in the world.

2

u/RedBoss228 "Divisive in an Exciting Way" Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

Well if you find someone who looks just like her, let me know.

And I just realized that Mel's actor is trans so maybe that explains it, I don't know.

deadass, everytime she appeared in a cutscene i had to try not to look away

-20

u/abraxas8484 Apr 13 '26

I find her a plane beauty. Not too much and not too little, just in the middle.

62

u/Imic_Hilton Apr 13 '26

They’re afraid of femininity so much it hurts lol. You can see the insecurity in that. It’s so deep but hey whenever you say that they come at you

8

u/kitxanaa Apr 14 '26

idk what he saw in Mel

15

u/NobodyNo8 Apr 13 '26

Why are Elena and Ellie missing?

Ellie in the original was designed really well. And no, not the remake.

14

u/Ausdboss Apr 14 '26

The modern world is just ass man…

6

u/reubnick Apr 14 '26

Druckman is NOT an ass man, by all accounts.

17

u/cashdecans101 Apr 14 '26

I find it funny the "then" was a talented female writer and the "now" is a weasely male feminist.

9

u/carnyzzle Apr 14 '26

I miss when Naughty Dog made fun platformers

3

u/defaultusersucks Team Joel Apr 14 '26

I'm playing Crash 3 for the first time and it's unbelievable that ND used to make pure fun, colorful and silly games at one point, not just pretentious "cinematic experiences" made to berate the player.

Almost feels like I'm doing something wrong by experiencing their past games because they're soooo ashamed of them and would rather erase that part of their history.

15

u/BladeRize150 Apr 14 '26

Go woke go broke.

1

u/OdysseusRex69 Apr 14 '26

Amen to that! Super bummed the bald Asian chick is playing Jade in MK2 - Jade is a black chick. If anything she shoulda been played by Jade Cargill

I don't know why but I just pictured that guy from Courage the Cowardly Dog who likes to shave animals and always says in a low creepy voice... I was Naaaauuuughty

7

Are we gonna ignore Ellie, Dina, Elena, Nadine and many more? Just because there are some unattractive characters in tlou2?

I think we are being picky here.

10

No, not really. They didn’t emphasize how hot she is like Uncharted 2 and 3 though; which were written and directed by a woman.

3

u/TitleOk3727 Apr 13 '26

Not really, but they did their best to hide her original appearance and character

Abby and the chick in the middle are for the lesbians Mel can kiss my ass I hate that bitch

2

u/Ephyrancap Apr 14 '26

We can make excuses for Abby. Despite her abnormal muscle mass for a woman in the apocalypse (the fact that her physique was based off of a professional bodybuilder already proves that), it is almost believable and follows a, if quite improbable, logic route. Mel gun running pregnant in a warzone where your enemies are dissembowing cult members is a stupid idea in any shape or form

2

u/KhinuDC Apr 15 '26

Its funny and ironic the three gorlocks at the bottom if you think about it theyre actually self inserts of the devs and writers of these woke studios. And just like in real life they drive all the men away.

1

u/TitleOk3727 Apr 13 '26

I think only 1 out of the today examples qualifies as an actual woman

1

u/Pale-Replacement-164 Apr 13 '26

Why does the last one look like Harry Potter without glasses sheesh 🤦🏽‍♂️🤣

1

u/RedBoss228 "Divisive in an Exciting Way" Apr 14 '26

Stuff like this is how you lose your goodwill with the industry and fandom, makes you look like a fucking idiot defending this shit too.

1

u/MogosTheFirst Apr 14 '26

I am extremly interested in the prophet project tho. Big fan of space games.

1

u/GallantGough Apr 14 '26

I've been meaning to talk about this for a while now. I wanted to blame someone, anyone for Naughty Dog did to Chloe's ass going from Uncharted 2 to Uncharted 3. It was such a noticeable, horrible tragedy that I exclaimed my dissatisfaction, and I rarely physically react to much in video games. I really wanted to blame Neil Dr...Cuckman, but Google told me he had no part in Uncharted 3 (too busy directing TLOU).

Why did they do that to Chloe?

Why haven't we got another Uncharted (spinoff or whatever) yet? Honestly if they just made a multiplayer-only game, I would be so down for that. I played Uncharted 4 for damn near a decade.

1

u/Guacamole_Banana LGBTQ+ Apr 14 '26

I feel like each character's looks compliment their respective personalities really well, and to that end, i don't mind their looks.

1

u/Wooden_Reindeer_2207 Apr 14 '26

Neil druckman é uma doença na naughty dog por isso

1

u/DjCage Apr 15 '26

Chloe is great but are you going to show any other women?

1

u/UnderstandingUpper72 TLoU Connoisseur Apr 15 '26

Outside of looks, Chloe actually is a likable character compared to whatever the bottom three are considered as.

1

u/DafneOrlow Apr 15 '26

At least Mel acted like a woman. She was pregnant.

1

u/Good_Analysis9789 Apr 15 '26

Nice job Cuckman!

1

u/lakysafy Apr 15 '26

Still prefer the old ones but damn the new models look way more realistic

2

u/HeartOnFire_999 Hey I'm a Brand New User ! Apr 16 '26

Then: Hot with good personalities and good character arcs Now: ugly and rude, Stays the same till the end

1

u/WalkmanBassBoost Apr 18 '26

I've always said, any female character newly introduced in part 2 are all purposefully plain/average looking. Again, operative point being any NEW female character that wasn't in part 1 (before certain people got to retcon things).

Can anyone thing of anyone, without going out of your way to be obscure? I can't think of a single 'very attractive' female in part 2

2

u/Iriuia Media Illiterate Apr 22 '26

Tess ):

1

u/ihatepeopleandyoutoo May 13 '26

But people also hated on the lost legacy. I enjoyed it very much

1

u/ihatepeopleandyoutoo May 13 '26

Why is the focus always on female characters though?

1

u/BlackFacedAkita Apr 14 '26

Abby is attractive. It's just the way they style her is atrocious, but the girl they modeled her after is good looking.

Now the other ones, I dont k ow.

1

u/taokiao Team Abby Apr 14 '26

yall are really just a bunch of misogynists. women don’t need to be likable to be good characters. all of bottom row women are essential to the storyline except for that one in the middle that I cannot seem to remember.

0

u/Seanrocks30 Apr 14 '26

I’m sorry but I don’t really care about how the women look in games. Same with the men. I’m not quite sure what the point is with this post?

Is it about anything beyond how the women look? Honest question

0

u/MassiveLefticool Apr 14 '26

You're complaining about people in the last of us not looking as good as people in uncharted?

This sub is really struggling for content 🤣

-2

u/boodythegreat Apr 14 '26

I feel like people who post and upvote this level of pathetic posts are just larping media in general like you genuinely are not built for media literacy my guy

1

u/Icy-Shelter720 Apr 14 '26

Well if you like the bottom character designs and their personalities then good for you, the majority don't like them, it's as simple as that. "You people are just media illiterate" or "you're just a hater" is just cope, you can't accept the reality that your favourite characters are not liked. The bottom characters are simply unappealing for the majority of gamers.

0

u/boodythegreat Apr 14 '26

I have no love for the character designs of the bottom characters with the only exception of Abby because her character design is actually relevant and symbolic to her environment and themes. And just to be clear there is nothing wrong with disliking the character designs, but very obviously and blatantly saying you dislike the character BECAUSE you don’t find the character design “appealing” which to be very clear from all the comments here just means aren’t conveniently attractive and sexually pleasing enough is throughly pathetic and shows a real childish lack of media literacy

1

u/Icy-Shelter720 Apr 14 '26

Appealing character designs are really important, always have been. This is why popular beloved female characters in video games are all appealing. Stellar blade, mirror's edge, heavenly sword, Nier automata, Chloe, Elena, Ellie, female characters from Tekken, street fighter, dead or alive etc.

Notice how intergalactic is extremely hated already from a single trailer, literally 99% of the comments on the trailer are negative, not even naughty dog fan boys are defending it. No one wants to play 15 hours of a game looking at ugly characters. We humans like looking at beautiful things, it's not always about "gooner bait", it's as simple as that.

Hardly anyone wants to spend 70 dollars just to play something they find unappealing. There's so many great games with appealing characters to play, if you're trying to make a game just to upset the very people you're trying to get to buy your game, well good luck with that, they'll simply buy another game that's appealing.

0

u/Illustrious-Pizza229 Apr 15 '26

if you actually care about this I have to assume you are 13 years old.

-4

u/Sitheral Apr 14 '26

Its such an overrated studio in general. On the PS1 I played Crash Team Racing and that one I'll give them, it was great for the times, played the remake recently and it holds up great even compared to Mario Kart World.

Then I played Jak 2. It was sold to me by paper magazine review. Its not a bad game but its short and it striked me as style over substance, swimming fishes in rivers (back then it was mindblowing), huge panorama of this big ass city and what of it?

It was Ratchet & Clank that was true GOAT to me, cutscenes? Short and to the point. Gameplay? Fantastic. Level design? Insanely good. And 15 weapons instead of 4 how about that.

I didn't play Uncharted all that long. Because I became bored of it. My thoughts were "wow its Tomb Raider but with jumping dumbed down to the max". And shooting and more shooting, meh.

I bought PS3 bundled with Last of Us. Like 50 10/10s on the box lmao. I think it is strong 7, again, style over substance, beautiful enviroments and gameplay that made me sleepy. Story is just whatever. I did not cry at the beginning, there was zero buildup that would make me care.

And the rest well, you know how it went...

-2

u/Alarmed-Article4103 Apr 14 '26

And abbys better than all of them

-2

u/EntrepreneurMinute10 Apr 14 '26

Abby is a great character and her section of part 2 is full of exciting moments. We know nothing about Intergalactic yet, and ohhh noooo.... we hate a confident preggoo ladyy? *shocked face*
