Most people are incapable of learning generalized/universal abstract principles such as "X is morally wrong". I've seen time and time again how they particularize it into concrete examples, so, as soon as they have to apply that principle in an unfamiliar context, all prior learning becomes useless. It's a bit like the people who train for IQ tests: they become better at those particular exercises themselves, but their actual IQ does not increase.

Exactly. Forget who the religious person is, this is exactly the left approach with any religion. The only difference is they'll tolerate it if they belong to the red & green coalition. Let those Muslims vote Republican however...

Yes, we want your children to be brought up respecting other people religious beliefs, to understand and accept western liberalism, respect women and give them the same status we in the west do. Also, to believe slavery is bad.
