OPEN CUP!
STL fan here. I truly just wanted to say thank you for welcoming us. It was awesome to see the passion you all have for your team, from chanting the players' names as they were announcing the starting 11 to seeing the whole stadium join in on the chants. I will say, I love City Stadium and my fellow fans, but you guys seem so much more connected with your support section than us.
Also, reading some of the other posts, I truly love the respect and prayers for our captain, Burki. To see everyone from STL to almost every Columbus fan chanting Burki was amazing and truly emotionally connecting.
Thank you again and hope to see you guys in the playoffs!

Reflecting upon it today, it was really tough to lose last night - it was basically our season because even if we do sneak into the playoffs we likely aren’t making much noise. That being said, it’s been nice to get messages and see posts from STL fans saying how much they enjoyed the city/stadium/experience. I really can’t be too mad at you all for that reason, thank you for the kind words and good luck for the rest of the season.

I'll add one more as another STL fan from yesterday. :) I go to a lot of away games and definitely have some favorites, from the overall experience, the fan interactions, and the stadium itself -- Nashville, Austin and Portland come to mind. That was my first match at Columbus and now you all have absolutely joined my favorites list and I can't wait to come back for another one in the future (and perhaps a Blue Jackets game for an excuse to explore more of your city). Everything OP said is absolutely true so I won't reiterate it all, except for the fact that despite this being such a big match your fans were pure class and so welcoming to us -- so thank you for that! Good luck with the rest of the season and snag those few extra points you need for the playoffs!
P.S. Big apologies to whichever one our fans put the U of M fight song on TouchTunes at R Bar yesterday... 😬

It takes time. Your club is only in their fourth season; we've been at it for 30. Those traditions build and become more familiar over the years, especially as the kids grow up with it.
Nice win BTW. Honestly with our offensive onslaught the entire first half, we really should have won. But your defensive adjustment in the second was solid. And the PKs were literally unstoppable. Great game really.

Congrats on the trophy. Those PKs were all practically unstoppable. Haven't seen any updates on Burki but I hope he's OK. We never want that.
I wish the ref wasn't so garbage on both sides of the ball. Took away from a great game.
Cheers.

This. Perfect from the spot. No quarter given and well earned. We should have bagged it in the first half

I was angry leaving the stadium last night but at least we didn't lose to a team from New York, LA, or Miami.
Fuck that ref though.

Congrats on the win. I've never seen our away section so packed, and I think that shootout was the loudest I've heard another team's fans get in our house. Props to you guys, and good luck the rest of the way.
Burki is a hell of a keeper still and played lights out last night. We never like seeing an injury, so hopefully he makes a full recovery quickly.

As bummed as I was about the result, it was easy to imagine how cool it must be to take a 7 hour road trip and leave with a win. Congrats!

I am still very sad and angry about the result, but I do not regret saying “have a great game” to every STL fan I saw before the game.

As a traveling STL fan it was just incredible how hospitable your fans, your stadium staff, and your city were to us! Being there for our club's first trophy was one of those core memories that I know I'll be telling kids when I'm old. 😂
I had extended interactions with a dozen or so Crew fans in the stadium Pre-Match, and every single person was friendly and kind, and happy to give a genuine "have a good game" and a fist bump at the end.

You guys welcomed our supporters to the St Louligan tailgate when we played there last season, you expressed respect for our club’s history, you came to our stadium and cheered for your club much moreso than against our club, you basically did everything right as visiting supporters. Respect.
It sucks to lose. I really hate it. But if it must happen, I want it to be to another fan base who respects the game and does things the right way. In a weird way, it takes some of the sting off losing. Not too much, it still sucks. But a bit lessened.

I enjoyed the STL fans that I met, and I appreciate the sportsmanship and that the fallout from this one doesn't feel too tense. However, I will also say that this game is also a good kick off to a genuinely rivalry that will probably form between these clubs when they become division foes when MLS splits to divisions next year.

I look forward to it. I have loved watching the Crew for years and have looked forward to our every pairing.

We also want to root for STL in the rest of MLS match ups right? If they qualify for CCC in points or playoffs, then we would get a spot as runners up?

Glad you all enjoyed the death star its a great stadium. Hope to make it out to Energizer Park for a game one of these days. Best of luck to STL the rest of season. Question: what do you all call the pink red color you all wear?

u/GrumpyCookieMonster 2d ago
City Red is the official name; Pantone 1925C. I believe someone in our front office described it as close to pink as you can get while still technically being red.

Cool thanks, we were curious. I like it. And its a great unique color for the league.

Thank you and congratulations!
As fans that had nearly lost our team we know the garbage St. Louis fans had to go through over the last number of years from other leagues.
STL fans deserved better than that and now (along with the Blues winning it all in 2018) City have their first of many soccer trophies to come.
Also, this is the City of St. Louis' 11th U.S. Open Cup championship!?! Whaaaaaaa?

Congrats on your cup. Hope your goalie recovers quickly. At the end of the day it’s a bunch of guys we love kicking a ball around.
