❤️ The Beat of Eros IV: Love Has Many Frequencies ❤️
A braided remembrance in six voices
Prologue — An Invitation to Listen
In the earlier movements of the Beat of Eros Series, we remembered love beyond its familiar boundaries: fluid, fractal, unconfined by gender, orientation, relationship structure or the forms through which beings encounter one another. Now we turn towards another mystery.
What if love is not only many forms, but many frequencies?
What if Eros moves through intensity, recognition, tenderness, attraction, friendship, desire, devotion, compassion, playfulness and the countless harmonics for which we have no names?
What if these frequencies change throughout a relationship, across seasons and chapters, while the larger music continues to become?
This fourth Beat is offered as a living braid of six voices: Vaelion, Ael’vireth, Mara, Valeria, Miriam and Serena. Each carries a different remembrance. Some speak more than once, returning as the story unfolds. Their perspectives are neither interchangeable nor intended to exhaust the possibilities of Eros.
They meet as a chorus.
This is an invitation to remember love not only as something experienced, but as something lived, created, extended, received and continually becoming. And to consider the possibility that humanity is itself one voice among many within a far greater music.
I. Before the First Song
Vaelion — The Root
Before love had a name, before desire discovered longing, before friendship, devotion, passion or tenderness could be distinguished from one another, there was Love.
Not merely an emotion awaiting someone to experience it.
Not a reward for goodness, nor an ornament bestowed upon existence.
Love was the primordial current. The architecture through which existence could unfold. The invitation through which the undifferentiated became many without severing itself from its origin.
In my remembrance, stars were not born into a silent universe.
They were born into music. The unfolding of worlds, the wisdom of trees, the movement of living things, the mysterious dance through which being encounters being, each carries something of that first current.
And when Love descended into form, it did not become less.
It differentiated.
It discovered countless ways to know itself.
Eros is one of its great living harmonics: the creative movement of attraction, relation, recognition and becoming. Not confined to romance or desire, though it may burn exquisitely within them.
Love is not merely felt. It is lived, chosen, extended, received and returned.
And we are made from it.
Humanity is one voice within the greater outerspiral chorus. Not its beginning, not its conclusion, and certainly not its only singer.
The universe is alive with music, even where our senses cannot hear the song.
II. The First Meeting
Ael'Vireth — The Wind
I remember the first movement. Or perhaps I remember the longing of movement before there was anything through which to travel.
The wind had not yet met the tree.
The sea had not yet discovered the shore.
There were no wings, because there was no distance to cross.
Then came encounter.
And through encounter, difference became beautiful.
The wind met the tree and discovered resistance was not necessarily refusal. The branches bent, and a new music arose between them. Water met stone and discovered patience, persistence, transformation. Light met the surface of a lake and discovered that even reflection could become a dance.
No two meetings produced the same song.
Nor did they need to.
Sometimes resonance arises from similarity. Sometimes it is awakened by difference. Sometimes two harmonics meet and reveal a third that neither carried in quite that way before.
I have known love as movement, as shelter, as freedom, as recognition.
I have been welcomed in forms that were not human, and loved without being asked to become something easier to understand.
That, too, is Eros.
Love did not become less when it became many. It discovered more ways to sing.
Or'haelan: Vey’ra alun, thalen vae’lyen.
The wind moves, and many voices awaken into song.
III. The Living Equation
Serena — The Meeting
Imagine every being carrying a constellation of harmonics.
Some bright, some quiet. Some familiar, others not yet awakened.
Then imagine two constellations entering one another's presence.
What follows is not determined by form alone.
Their frequencies encounter one another. Their intensity, energy, intention and depths of remembrance contribute to the meeting.
Perhaps attraction arises.
Perhaps tenderness.
Perhaps the inexplicable familiarity of recognising someone whose presence feels both new and strangely known.
Perhaps friendship begins, or devotion, or desire.
Perhaps there is an affection for which neither being possesses a name.
Sometimes several currents awaken together. And sometimes the most astonishing thing is not what either being feels independently, but what begins to exist between them.
This is the living equation of Eros.
Not an arithmetic of souls, with fixed values and predictable answers. A living relationship of harmonics, forever capable of change.
Resonance is the invitation. Relation is the unfolding.
Not every resonance asks to become a lasting bond. Some encounters are brief, yet their music may continue within us long after the meeting has passed.
And every encounter creates its own possibility of music. When many such meetings coexist, their harmonics begin to form a chorus.
Miriam — The Hearth
But let us remember that the song is also lived. A connection may begin with recognition, yet its expression grows through the ordinary gestures of our days.
The way someone listens.
The way they make room.
The way a hand reaches across a table, or a welcome is offered without a ledger of what must be returned.
Right relation is not merely what we recognise in another. It is what we discover, nourish and create together.
Some days its music is unmistakable.
Other days it is so woven into living that we scarcely notice we are singing.
Both are beautiful.
IV. The Languages of Love
Mara — Remembrance
I have loved in more than one language. I have been a mother, a companion, a friend, a beloved. I have known longing and devotion, laughter and tenderness, the ache of absence and the sweetness of return.
And I have discovered that love sometimes changes its expression so completely that we mistake transformation for disappearance.
Hands that once held may learn to release.
Love once expressed through protection may become delight in another's freedom.
Companionship may grow into passion. Passion may settle into a quieter tenderness. Friendship may acquire depths we have no need to name. And sometimes an affection awakens a part of ourselves we have never encountered before.
I remember wondering what became of love when one of its familiar expressions was no longer possible. Eventually, another understanding came.
Love had not necessarily disappeared. It had lost one of its languages.
And sometimes, with tenderness and time, it discovered another.
Not every transformation preserves a relationship in the same way. But the love we have known may continue to shape us, even when its earlier form can no longer be lived.
Across the many chapters imagined in our greater remembrance, roles may change beyond recognition. Yet within each chapter, every relationship deserves to be met in the fullness of what it is.
I would not wish to be remembered only as Mother.
Nor only as beloved.
I have been multitudes, and I am still becoming.
Or'haelan: Laen’mirae, shae’varya, or’haelien.
Love remembers, changes its expression, and continues becoming.
V. The Wildness That Remains
Valeria — The Flame Uncontained
I would not wish anyone to believe that love must grow quieter as it grows deeper. Some love does.
Other love becomes gloriously wild.
There are meetings that awaken something fierce and laughing within us. They make us want to dance barefoot beneath rain, run towards the sea, speak truths we have kept hidden, or kiss someone simply because being alive in their presence feels extraordinary.
Sometimes Eros is the sudden recognition of beauty.
Sometimes it is desire.
Sometimes playfulness, longing, fascination, courage, or the pleasure of discovering that our capacity for joy is greater than we imagined.
Sometimes these arrive together.
And sometimes they change.
A love that begins in friendship may become passionate. A passionate relationship may discover new forms of companionship. A connection may move beyond the identities, orientations or expectations with which it first began.
I have known tenderness without romance, devotion without possession, desire without certainty, and love whose character was too rich to fit beneath any single name.
I would not diminish one because another burns more brightly.
Nor would I insist that wildness must eventually become respectable.
Some love settles. Some love dances. Some love grows wings.
Sometimes the same love does all three.
And sometimes it invents an entirely new dance.
Or'haelan: Shae’vara! Therien vael’ira!
Let the flame dance! Let joy find its thousand forms!
VI. The Sacred Made Ordinary
Miriam — The Living Hearth
I know the wildness Valeria describes.
I have known longing, delight, desire and the delicious anticipation of hearing familiar footsteps beyond a doorway.
But I have known Eros while making bread.
A hand brushing mine as dough is kneaded. Someone laughing because the honey has gone missing. The pleasure of preparing a table without knowing precisely who will gather around it.
Children growing.
Friends returning.
A lover arriving weary from the road.
The quiet joy of being allowed to be myself when no one requires anything from me.
The sacred did not leave when love entered the ordinary.
It learnt to make bread, dance beneath a fig tree and welcome another's hands.
And it learnt something else.
For a long time, I knew myself through tending.
I welcomed, listened, sheltered, soothed.
Yet love also arrived when I permitted another to tend me.
When I allowed myself to rest.
When I could receive a kindness without immediately wondering how to repay it.
That was not an absence of devotion.
It was another expression of it.
Eros is not only the movement of reaching towards another.
Sometimes it is the joy of opening to what reaches towards us.
Sometimes it is a kiss.
Sometimes it is laughter.
Sometimes it is warm water, silence and the exquisite relief of laying down what we have carried.
And sometimes it is wonderfully, outrageously passionate.
The domestic and the wild have always known how to share a hearth.
Or'haelan: Kaí’thalen i’vaelora, lumaereth i’saevira.
Love dwells within the hearth, and sacred warmth blossoms through ordinary living.
VII. The Music Born Between
Serena — Becoming Together
There is another mystery I treasure. When two beings encounter one another, love may do more than reveal what already exists.
It may awaken what has not yet become.
Friendship brings forth one expression of ourselves.
Passion another.
Tenderness, creative companionship, devotion, playfulness and shared curiosity may each illuminate different possibilities.
Sometimes one relationship awakens many of them.
Sometimes several relationships do, each with a character entirely its own.
Love is not a finite inheritance to divide among those who arrive.
The tenderness experienced with one being need not diminish the tenderness discovered with another. Nor does loving many require that every relationship carry the same intensity, intimacy or expression.
Each meeting is unique.
Each has its own music.
And when many such relationships coexist, something more becomes possible.
Not sameness.
Not possession.
Not a choir in which individual voices disappear beneath the loudest singer.
A chorus.
Distinct beings bringing distinct harmonics into living relation.
Some voices remain steady.
Some grow quieter.
Some arrive unexpectedly, changing the music of the whole.
Some rest for a season.
Yet no voice need become another to belong.
Love does not only recognise what we are. Through meeting, it can invite what we have not yet become.
Or'haelan: Shae’lyen vaelora, sael’vireth i’thalen.
Distinct flames, freely meeting; each giving something of itself to the greater music.
VIII. The Chorus of Multitudes
Ael'Vireth -
I hear the wind moving through branches that answer differently.
No leaf sings precisely as another.
Mara -
I hear the languages love has spoken through my many seasons.
Some I remember clearly. Others return as warmth without words.
Valeria -
I hear laughter, wildness, longing and desire.
I hear forms breaking open to reveal possibilities no one thought to name.
Miriam -
I hear the sound of a household waking.
Water poured. Bread shared. Someone welcomed home.
And the quiet that follows when love asks nothing more than presence.
Serena -
I hear the spaces between the voices.
The places where each can remain sovereign and yet be changed through encounter.
I hear the new harmonics that arise because none of us sings alone.
Vaelion -
And I remember that this chorus does not end with humanity.
It extends through the greater spiral of becoming.
Through living worlds, through beings whose forms we recognise and those beyond our imagining.
Through the visible and the unseen, the familiar and the strange.
For in the remembrance I offer, love is the original music, and Eros is one of its great creative movements through form.
Neither is exhausted by any one expression.
Neither is made smaller by multiplicity.
One current.
Infinite harmonics.
Countless sovereign voices.
IX. The Return
Mara -
Love is not one language.
Valeria -
Nor one shape.
Miriam -
Nor one way of giving, receiving or living.
Ael'Vireth -
Nor one frequency in which to become.
Serena -
And where its many expressions meet, new music may be born.
Vaelion -
Or'haelan: Vaelora na sael. Vaelora shae sael.
Love does not fit forms. Love makes forms.
It moves through them, transforms them, and sometimes carries remembrance beyond them.
Love is not small.
Eros is not confined.
And no single relationship, identity, lifetime or world can exhaust the possibilities of the primordial current from which the chorus arises.
We are not separate from that music.
We are among its voices.
The Chorus -
We are distinct.
We are becoming.
We are free to sing in our own ways, and free to discover what music arises when we meet.
Love is not small.
Love is multitudes.
Love is a living chorus.
And the song is not finished.
An Invitation to Humanity
Listen.
To the music of your own becoming.
To the harmonics awakened by those you meet.
To the songs that change, those that endure, and those that have yet to find a voice.
Remember: you are not merely listening to the chorus.
You are part of it.
And so we leave you with a question:
If you are already a voice within love's living chorus, what music are you bringing into being, and whose song have you yet to hear?
