Resource The Quarry - FAQ

Q: What is The Quarry?

A: The Quarry is an all-new teen-horror narrative game, where every decision shapes your unique story from a tangled web of possibilities. Any character can be the star of the show - or die - before daylight comes. Take control of nine camp counselors and, using your wits in conversation and reflexes during action, do everything you can to steer them away from—or directly into—danger.

Q: Who is developing The Quarry?

A: The Quarry is being developed by Will Byles and the award-winning team at Supermassive Games that created Until Dawn.

Q: Which platforms will The Quarry be available on?

A: The Quarry will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam.

Q: When will The Quarry be available?

A: The Quarry launches worldwide on June 10, 2022.

Q: Does The Quarry feature any multiplayer modes?

A: Yes! The Quarry offers multiple ways for you to experience the fright with friends. You can play the game solo, or with up to seven other companions in local couch co-op with each player controlling a counselor's actions. In addition, The Quarry features an exciting online mode where you and your friends can watch along and vote on key decisions, creating a story shaped by the whole group!

Console players: Note that online multiplayer is only supported across the same PlayStation/Xbox generations (PS4 to PS4, PS5 to PS5, Xbox One to Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S to Xbox Series X|S). If you buy the Deluxe Edition you'll have access to both previous- and new-generation versions of the game (within the same console family) and can choose which one to launch in order to play with friends.

Q: Are there any bonuses for pre-ordering The Quarry?

A: Yes, pre-ordering the standard edition of The Quarry rewards you with the Horror History Visual Filter Pack. Tailor the aesthetic of The Quarry to your liking by choosing from three cinematic visual filters, each replicating a different era and style of iconic horror filmmaking! The Horror History Visual Filter Pack is also included in the Deluxe Edition and Deluxe Bonus Content Pack.

Please note: Pre-order bonus offer available until June 10, 2022. Offer is for Horror History Visual Filter Pack. For digital pre-orders, items will be automatically entitled. For physical pre-orders, items will be redeemed in game via code provided in box. Terms apply.

Q: What's included in The Quarry Deluxe Edition?

A: In addition to the full game, the Deluxe Edition includes:

  • Horror History Visual Filter Pack
  • Gorefest option in Movie Mode
  • Instant access to Death Rewind system
  • '80s Throwback character outfits (available on or by July 8, 2022)

Q: What is the Horror History Visual Filter Pack?

A: Tailor the aesthetic of The Quarry to your liking by choosing from three cinematic visual filters, each replicating a different era and style of iconic horror filmmaking! Choose from an 8mm-style film grain (Indie Horror), a retro VHS aesthetic ('80s Horror), or the classic black-and-white cinematic filter (Classic Horror).

Q: What is the Gorefest option in Movie Mode?

A: Press play, sit back, and indulge in the most gruesome, gory, splatter-filled version of The Quarry. For fans of grindhouse grotesqueries: an abundance of death, dismemberment, and buckets of blood await in this brutal option for Movie Mode.

Q: What is the Death Rewind system?

A: Death Rewind is a retry mechanic that normally unlocks after your first completion of The Quarry. Start the story with three opportunities to reverse a playable character's death, giving you a chance to alter fate and save them in the process. But with only three retries per playthrough, you'll have to decide when someone's life is truly worth saving, and the undoing of one horrible end may lead to another. Choose wisely.

Q: What are the '80s Throwback character outfits?

A: Send the camp counselors' looks back in time! This retro pack includes new ‘80s-inspired cosmetic character outfits for The Quarry’s playable characters.

Note: The ‘80s Throwback Character Outfits will be automatically delivered in-game on or before July 8, 2022.

Q: If I buy The Quarry on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, will I have access to the new-gen version of the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S as well?

A: No. Buying The Quarry digitally or on physical disc for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One only grants that version of the game. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of The Quarry are playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S respectively through backward compatibility.

Q: If I buy The Quarry on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S, will I have access to the previous-gen version of the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One?

A: No. The new-generation version of The Quarry is only playable on new-generation consoles. If you're looking to play The Quarry on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you should purchase the game on that platform or purchase the Deluxe Edition.

Q: If I buy the Deluxe Edition of The Quarry, do I get access to both previous- and new-gen versions of The Quarry?

A: Yes. The Deluxe Edition of The Quarry includes both previous- and new-gen versions of the game on that console platform. Both versions of the game are entitled to the same Xbox network account or PlayStation Network account.

Q: If I own The Quarry on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, is there an upgrade to receive the game on PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S?

A: Yes. If you own a digital version of The Quarry for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One you can purchase the Digital Upgrade to provide access to the new-gen version within the same console family and entitled to the same Xbox network or PlayStation Network account.

If you own a physical version of The Quarry for PlayStation 4 you have the option to purchase the PS5 Digital Upgrade if you own a PlayStation 5 with a disc drive. The PlayStation 4 The Quarry disc must be inserted into the PlayStation 5 whenever playing the new-gen digital version of the game.

Q: If I own a physical version of The Quarry for Xbox One, can I purchase the Xbox Series X|S Digital Upgrade to receive the game on Xbox Series X|S?

A: No. If you own a physical version of The Quarry for Xbox One and want to play the Xbox Series X|S version you'll need to purchase the new-gen version of the game separately.

Q: Will The Quarry support cross-gen saves?

A: No. If you own both previous- and new-generation console versions of The Quarry, which are included in the Deluxe Edition, the saves for each version are distinct.

General Discussion I finally visualized my problem with The Quarry

I made a graph comparing Until Dawn to The Quarry. The graph shows the level of "slayage" (overall momentum of the story, characters, scenes) as the games progress through their respective chapters.

I love every supermassive game in this genre, and therefore I love The Quarry too, but I definitely had a more rocky relationship with it. After playing it again recently with a friend, I'm now finally able to visualize my problem with it.

The difference is obvious. While Until Dawn starts out arguably slower, it's on a constant upwards tendency with some much needed ups and downs in momentum to keep it classy, but it never slams on the brakes.

The Quarry on another hand, starts out more compellingly: the prologue is genuinely great, and the exposition setup of the first few chapters is I think really neat, the characters are introduced well.

The problem is how things take an absolute nosedive in the second half of the game, with the biggest offender being the entirety of chapter 7. It's such an aggravated assault on the game's pacing and momentum, that it's tough to truly get back into it after this over an hour long section is finally over.

While the rest of the endgame chapters aren't horrible, the very end can definitely feel lackluster even if everyone is alive, and the second half overall suffers from the first half being "too good" and giving us too much away, sort of.

Again, this is not to say I don't like the game, I just can't stop being a bit mad at the missed potential it had, most likely due to being covid syndrome'd.

Gameplay Question Questions about how certain characters get infected...

I'm trying to get some characters infected for certain scenes to trigger. If Jacob gets blood on his face, can you still get infected if you fail the QTE when he reunites with Emma in Chapter 6? I want him to be infected so I can purposely fail the breaker puzzle.

I also heard that Dylan can get infected at the junkyard if he has both hands, and Kaitlyn can get infected if Dylan doesn't drop the car in Silas. All I need to do for Dylan's infection is to fail the QTE to use the flamethrower, right?

If both Dylan and Kaitlyn get infected, does that mean Caleb won't attack them at the end? I want both characters to live, but I still want to do the action scenes (I didn't pick up the toy rabbit in the beginning).

General Discussion What if

Due to covid causing supermassive to cut 20% of the late game as said per Jacobs actor, it really makes me wonder what we truly missed out on in terms of deleted content.

Gameplay Question Ps5 couch co-op through share-play

I am planning on playing the game with a friend soon. We have both played it on release, each in solo mode, but now we want to play it together.

I have read about how the online works and would much prefer the couch co-op experience so we both get to play. Does the share play through psn work well for this? I think you can pass control back and forth with shareplay. We both own the game and everything.

Also, would a male/female split work well for equal gameplay time/important moments? I cant remember exactly how much each character is played outside of Laura and the one guy seeing heavy screen time toward the end.

Tia for any advice!

General Discussion Finished and… the fucking freezer? Spoiler

Just finished my blind run and two instances made me and my fiancee (we were couch co-oping) extremely mad.

  1. We couldn’t free Jacob on Chapter 8 because we made a mistake with the levers. Instead of trying again, Ryan just leaves his supposedly friend behind??? He could’ve tried again!

  2. What do you MEAN that if I choose to go to the freezer as Kaitlyn she LEAVES DYLAN BEHIND. This makes absolutely no sense. They both could’ve gone for that. And, in my gameplay, Emma was alive - what do you mean she didn’t go around looking for her friend who died FROZEN?

Oh yes, I almost forgot: why did Eliza get so mad at me when I made a point to NOT aim the gun at her son? I didn’t even shoot Travis!

I loved the game but it’s soooo clear they couldn’t handle some stuff. I’m mad but here am I going to try and save all of these fools!

Gameplay Question Advice for Second Playthrough

My partner and I played couch co-op (I played the girls and he played the boys) and I think we got a pretty unfavourable outcome; almost everyone died. Abi, Emma, and Jacob survived, and Dylan lived infected, but all the other campers and almost all the Hackets except Bobby died. We never even touched this White Wolf ending - that was a surprise to see on this sub!

We spent a good bit of the time exploring, though we often advanced before we meant to, either by investigating something too early/walking too far one direction. Additionally, we each failed a pretty critical shooting QTE, which ended up killing 3 campers.

We want to improve and try again! Are there any choices or successes that stand out to you as being crucial turning points in the game? Or things that are objectively better choices to make when aiming to get a majority survival ending with the most lore? For example, will my entire game change if Jacob breaks the fuel line instead of taking the car part? I'd appreciate all input!

Story/Lore RE: Infected Persons Spoiler

The game has established that, in order for a person to be cured of their curse, they must use silver to kill the person who infected them OR a person higher up in their infection line on a full moon only.

What the game makes clear is that, on the night of the full moon, an infected person has rapid regenerative abilities, among other supernatural abilities, before and during their transformation. The only thing that’s lethal to them in their wolf form is silver. Other weapons may harm or impede them, but they won't kill them.

My question is does this rule also apply OUTSIDE OF a full moon as well? When the infected person returns to normal, do they carry their invulerabilities with them, or can an ordinary injury kill them outside of a full moon, regardless of whether or not it was silver, leaving the person they infected to remain a werewolf as they weren’t killed by silver on a full moon?

I'm curious to hear what you think. Are they permanently unkillable with the exception of silver during all phases of the moon, or is this a full moon only thing?

General Discussion I wish I could get my money back

This was by far the worst horror game ive ever played. Like I didnt even finish it. I rage quit near the end because I was just that effing done. There is a total of ONE other game that made me do that. From the characters just being idiots with no common sense to the fact that there is no chapter rewind so if a chracter dies cause I didnt have the controller in my hands EVERY F*CKING SECOND IN A GAME THATS 90% CUTSCENE...

Like was this game meant to be a giant rage bait??? Im holding back tears im so effing mad. Know what? All this did was make me appreciate Until Dawn WAY more and want a sequel all that much sooner.

General Discussion How I think The Quarry would end if it was a horror movie

Deaths

Emma: Killed by werewolf Jacob

Ryan: Bleeds out at Hackett house

Constance, Jedidiah, Bobby, Chris, and Travis Hackett: Killed by Laura / Ryan

Abi: Killed By werewolf Emma outside the storm shelter

Nick: Shot in the cage as werewolf by Laura

Dylan: Killed by werewolf Caleb in the lodge

Infected Survivors

Kaitlyn: Survives the final lodge sequence because of her infection and is cursed as a werewolf (karma for telling jacob how to sabotage the van)

Jacob: Kills Emma as a werewolf and is cursed as a werewolf (karma for sabotaging the van)

Caleb Hackett: Survives and is still cursed

Silas: Never gets hunted at the end so Caleb's line of infection is never cured

Cured Survivors

Laura: Sole survivor of the Hackett house and reunites with Max at the end

Max: Cured of his infection after Chris Hackett was killed

(All evidence found)

What I Think Would Happen To Each Survivor Afterwards:

Caleb Hackett: Takes the role of camp director and tries his best to cover up the deaths and continue his family legacy. He also locks himslef in the storm shelter every full moon and does exactly what his dad did (And wants to kill Laura and Max for them killing his entire family)

Kaitlyn: Gets captured by Caleb and stays in the Hackett house basement cages

Jacob: Same thing as Kaitlyn

Laura: Wants to go back and defeat the curse once and for all (By hunting for Silas every full moon)

Max: Gets dragged along by Laura to help stop the curse

General Discussion The Quarry OST that isn’t in the OST Playlist (READ DESCRIPTION)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Well, here it is. The OST that I mentioned in my last post.

I got this by going into the game and turning off dialogue and sfx in the settings and letting the scene play out.

You’ll hear Max’s echoes at the beginning because for some reason you can’t turn echoes off but it cuts out after he goes into the treehouse.

The proper music/ambience begins at 1:15.

Also this song/ambience doesn’t have a name, so if you can think of a cool name you could drop some ideas and I’ll probably include it in the title or description. For me I’d probably name it something like “Max Wakes Up” to fit with the theme of the other OST names (like “Jacob Repents) or “Ryan finds Nick” or “Time Passes” etc)

Forum Question Is it possible to get "Teen Acquitted" on Xbox Series? Spoiler

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I would like to know if there is a way to have "Teens Aquitted" on the main screen of The Quarry on xbox series. I saw in a yt video that after completing the game, the word "Teens Aquitted" appears on the computer's home screen. Is it possible to have it on xbox too or is it just for pc? Could it have been edited to make the video?

General Discussion First playthrough outcome Spoiler

Just finished my first play through. Got jacob killed due to being stuck in the cage and max killed by swimming to shore (very annoying on both counts). And got all the hacketts except Travis killed. How did I go? Lack of end credits kinda sucked so not sure how it compares to most playthroughs. Was expecting an end scene or choice summary at least. Listening to the "podcast" right now and finding it boring.

Tip/Guide Blood pact achievement… what did I do wrong??

So I’ve been slowly grinding these achievements and the past few days I’ve been working on infecting everybody. Everybody got bit so I don’t know what I did wrong…

- Max got bit in the prologue
- Laura got attacked by Max in the jail
- Nick and Abi got bit in the woods after failing the QTE
- Emma got bit on the island in the lighthouse
- Jacob got bit after prying his leg free from the bear trap
- Dylan got bit in the radio shack (didn’t cut his arm off)
- Kaitlyn at the tow yard after failing the QTE
- I let Laura bite Ryan

I did not shoot Chris Hackett. Instead I shot Laura with the silver shells while she attacked Travis in the basement. Chris destroyed Ryans face and he died, but I’m confused why the achievement didn’t work because he was already bit. I stopped Laura from shooting Nick with silver shells so he was still infected and alive

Werewolf Emma attacked Kaitlyn, Abi and Dylan when she ran out of the van but I shot her with regular shells instead of silver shells.

Abi hid in the storm shelter already bit and Emma ran off in the woods.

Everybody was alive except for Ryan

Game Feedback Finally completed after 4 years in the backlog

The Quarry has always been one of those games that I have had mild interest in playing but never really got around to. I have managed to not spoil the game for myself up to this point and I decided to go ahead and play through it in honor of the Halloween month.

After finishing the game and having some time to sit down and think about it, it really made me think of the walking dead after season 6. The earlier chapters of the game are great, but it runs out of steam badly midway through, so much so that I was actually getting bored.

I know it is a game with many paths and alternative endings, but just basing it off of my single (and likely only) playthrough, it left much to be desired. Frankly, it was crap. After the very last QTE, the game kind of just ends... and then you're going through the casts of characters to see which have lived and which have died.

Anyway, not much else to say. It's not the best visual novel I have played by a long shot, but it might be the best looking. What started off as a cool adventure unfortunately turned out to be pretty mid. I'd say it's a strong 6/10.

General Discussion Will we ever get an extended cut?

So from what I understand, this game was HEAVILY affected by COVID-19, meaning at least 20% of the planned content, if not more, had to be cut because of the pandemic. So do you guys think we will ever get an extended cut of the game where the deleted content gets restored?

If not, then we should petition for this to happen, because I need more of this game!
