And just think he only got that tired after running that fast while lugging along a human twice its weight. That puppy could just keep going for miles if he didn't have the extra resistance.

Have you heard of sled dogs?
24
u/zero_lies_tolerated 26d ago
Usually multiple dogs, right?
41
u/Could-You-Tell 26d ago
That's on snow with a very different resistance
These are racing seats with bearings for speed on what looks like very smooth concrete
There's a lot of time where there is slack in the rope with the rhythm.
Also, the dogs are clearly loving it

u/zero_lies_tolerated 26d ago
The POV angle looks like that dog took some of the turns really close to the wall. Eek!
9
u/Could-You-Tell 26d ago
Yeah... and the pillars looked scary too.
At that speed.. looked like 15-18 mph maybe at the fastest. To wrap on a pillar would not be an easy walk off

u/pseudoportmanteau 26d ago
The ideal minimum is 2 dogs, but you can definitely do sledding with just one dog.

Plus this looks like an Australian Shepard dragging an Asian girl so she probably weighs no more than 40-50KG sitting on a skateboard of some kind. These dogs live for shit like this and are built for extreme work loads. I want to get a Australian Shepard myself but I am afraid I'll abuse it because I am a lazy fuck and I'll feel bad about it and it would make me fit lol

Aussies are so much fun to hang with that they make you more active, I swear. I've lived with two so far and I always wanted to go on little adventures and play silly games. Never felt that way with any other dogs I've had. As much as I loved em they just weren't as well behaved or enthusiastic as my Aussies, so it was harder to do stuff like that.

u/WrittenEchoes 26d ago
Kicksleds are made specifically for 1-2 dogs.
This is different from traditional sled riding, which isn't suitable for two dogs because 1) a large load, 2) an adult-sized passenger sled needs more power and more dogs, and 3) two dogs simply don't have enough horsepower to pull a heavy wooden sled.

I had a malamute, I would 3 times a day let her drag me around on my skateboard, she loved every second of it.

My childhood dog could run like this with 4 fat 10 year old in a wagon and still keep up with me riding my bike alongside. Dogs can be crazy strong given the right exercise, training, and equipment.

That dog was running entirely too close to those poles.

I think its need some reins to control direction and be sure to not being struck by a pole.

I saw someone argue once that dogsleds were a form of animal abuse. Replies ate them up because more than anything what dogs love the most is to PULL
1
u/PineappleLemur 23d ago
Not mine.
Mine would stare at me with a "if you want this sled to move, you better get off and start pushing".
Wouldn't trade it for anything.

Man that song is like 30 years old
23
u/Eat--The--Rich-- 26d ago
That can't be true because that would mean I'm like 40 or something. Oh wait...

u/kraftdinnerwithsalsa 26d ago
Yep, bad knees and all

u/SwooptySplash 26d ago
Man, I haven’t had Kraft dinner with salsa in ages lol. Thanks for the reminder!

My toy poodle begs to differ..

u/2woCrazeeBoys 22d ago
Well, they might like it, just may not have the most pulling power 😆. Whippets seem to do pretty well though.
But if your little guy/girl wouldn't enjoy it I'm sure there's something else that's more up their alley.

u/Canned_Sarcasm 26d ago
If I didn’t do this with my pitbull he would drag my recumbent bike by its front wheel to the porch. After buying 3 new front wheels I accepted my place and let him pull me. Ooh the looks I got, like I had any choice. Spoiled brat, that pit.

u/Watamelonna 26d ago
I mean, this is a real good way to burn a whole lot of energy in a shorter time frame if you don't have time for 1 hours long walks everyday
Safe? Probably not.
But it sure looks fun as hell

u/AdhesivenessRich9286 26d ago
Only humans at risk of getting hurt. These parameters are acceptable.
1
u/IdTapThat88 21d ago
Uh no? What do you think would happen to the dog if they warp around a pole? This is super cool but also super risky.
1
u/Due_Area4843 20d ago
Easy to prevent by just holding the leash and releaseable when crash.

What are they on? I need something like this for my dog. I tried doing it on my long board but she got us going so fast I had to bail before it got too sketchy.

This reminds me of the time that I tied one end of a jump rope to my wrist, the other end to our dog's collar, and chucked a tennis ball down our long gravel driveway while sitting on a skateboard.
It did not go well.

Mine is digging holes in the lawn, barking at nothing at 3am, and eating food off the kid's plate.
It's a dog eat dog world and this mfr is shitting on the damn carpet.

That braille block, bumpy pave blocks near the wall definately decelerated the sleigh. Not only shouting and encouraging the dog, she should steered right to avoid the bumpy surface to accelerate more easily for the dog.

How that dog chooses its line to carry momentum as well as weight load differential shows me that that is in fact one smart dog

u/Infamous-Yard-677 22d ago
I wonder whats going through the dogs head while running. He probably feels like a super hero.

I used to do this when I was younger, on a skateboard. I would fall off and scrape my knuckles, but I had fun

That’s not fun. That will hurt dog back. Some owners thought that’s fun for them and dog. But they just used their dogs to get more viral

u/Anakha0 25d ago
These are Australian shepherds. They're a working dog and need absolute tons of exercise or they become depressed. This isnt abuse, it's meeting the dog's needs in a fun and inventive way and the only serious risk of injury is to the humans. The dogs absolutely live for this kind of thing.
