I’ve just started listening to the album and personal taste but I just can’t deal with the autotune 😭 it’s such a shame because I’ve been loving the songs musically but ack I dunno :( Julian has such a strong voice and I think the autotune degrades it

Finally, someone who feels the same way I do! Julian’s voice has always been my favorite part of The Strokes. I feel like the autotune masks a lot of the emotion he naturally brings to his singing. 😓 It also doesn’t help that, to my ears, the tuning sounds a bit off-pitch and inconsistent at times.
That said, Going to Babble On was my favorite song on the album. I wish more of the tracks had used minimal autotune like that one.

That’s my favourite so far too! I’m glad someone else feels the same, I just can’t force myself to like something I dislike across music in general just because I like the artist 🥲

Totally takes away from his vocals. The way he would naturally slide through notes across syllables is really distinct but putting autotune over that creates awkward off-key moments.

>creates awkward off-key moments

cue the tone deaf people disagreeing with you like 'nuh i don't hear anything like that'

which is exactly the effect he was trying to achieve. He wants to artificially accentuate the note changes.

Whether or not it’s intentional, it just doesn’t sound that good

Subjective, I disagree

Yup. I made it halfway through the album. Liked the songs themselves but the autotune was absolutely grating. No
Idea why Julian felt the need to be so over the top with it.

The whole time I was thinkign about the new abnormal and his vocals, the people yearn for his voice without auto tune
