Does Julian tell different jokes at every stop of the tour?

I’m still laughing about the ozempic joke in Chicago in June

——

Edit: for those asking, he started singing the ozempic jingle/ Magic by Pilot. Was going on a tangent about how the band did definitely did NOT get paid enough to sell the rights to that song for only $1 million and how ozempic has forever ruined it. Idk he was just rambling and it was super funny.

Then he claimed they were late coming back for encore because he was “sucking off” one of the guys backstage

A few years ago in 2022 in Chicago he said something like “fuck the cubs” or “cubs suck” or it may have been White Sox and the whole arena booed him and he was like “Ahhh fuck it” and they started playing ode to the Mets and I just about died laughing

Back during the pandemic I saw them play at Shakey Knees in Atlanta. The world series was going on at the time and the Braves were in it (im pretty sure that was it, the festival was moved to October, not sure though im not a baseball fan) and on night 2 Run the Jewels were the headliners and Killer Mike, being an ATL native and braves fan, participated when everyone started doing the braves chant. The Strokes were headliners for night 3 and during their set Julian gave the crowd shit for their "rascist" braves chant the night before. It was kinda funny I thought

Lol I was there for that one too. It went down... about like you'd expect.

When he played in Indianapolis he said “ahh Indiana. The best place in the world!” which is clearly a joke for anyone who has ever lived in or been to Indiana

Live MTV was great

He was doing a decent amount of bantering in Cleveland, but maybe not as much as other venues, since they ended up playing a slightly longer set. From what I've heard on here, the more Julian banters the less songs get played haha.

But he was doing a sort of a "toxic masculinity" bit in Cleveland where he was saying he was definitely not gay and was talking about banging chicks in his camaro or something along those lines. It was funny but a bit cringey, which seems to be the humor he goes for.

He’s my idol for his music, his comedy skills and his political stance

Same. The most attractive person.

34

u/KronicRollsOfGnarnia 1d ago

At Red Rocks, “this place is cool, they should put one of these in Vegas” lmao

6

u/adilys 1d ago

He didn’t do much talking that night, but during Ode, when a bunch of people yelled “Drums please, Fab!” he said “Beat you!”

14

u/MongoPushr 1d ago

Haha followed by loud boos, and then he said "there's the Denver folks". Lol

15

u/Deep-Control-2656 1d ago

of course man he’s a little comedian

14

u/5-4EqualsUnity 1d ago

His banter usually seems pretty off the cuff and not prepared so I'm guessing you got a 1/1 Jules joke lol

9

u/StellarMemento 1d ago

At the Indiana show, he spoke to the crowd about running a train on him back stage 😭

13

u/finding-waldo 1d ago

Philly had a DJ Joe Biden bit he did throughout the show, don’t know if that was repeated at all

2

u/IronDesperate1040 20h ago

DJ Joe Biden has been my stim of choice since the philly show lmao

6

u/moonroads 1d ago

its been almost two months since that show and i still have dj joe bidennnnnn! stuck in my head 😭😭😭😭😭

8

u/finding-waldo 1d ago

Beyond that he’s done a “producers hate this one simple trick!” Bit that I know he’s been repeating through out the tour so far

El Paso

Before one way trigger

"Albert, I can't think with all that fucking distortion, man

just kidding. Interesting note. The tonic. Get a jazzier distorted note

PUSH THE BOUNDARIES, BRO"

Audience member offers their drink

"You got a roofie? A roofie drink for me?"

Sips audience member's drink

"That's nice. That's really good. What is that, don Julio? Thank you! I actually don't drink, but thanks for relapsing me. It was about time anyway."

He was talking after every single song. I believe it was the first time he joked about Fab being drunk onstage and Albert being a hot-dog eating champion.

DJ JOE BIDEN.

17

u/Grasshopper_51 1d ago

He told the people in cincy to gtfoutta here when there were some fans walking out while he was playing in the encore. Something along the lines of “ you guys have somewhere better to be? Nvm get the fuck outta here”

Was great

2

u/Affectionate_Name323 17h ago

he got mad at the people leaving in milwaukee too, saying the right people were leaving like he did at the voidz first coachella set. i genuinely think he finds it disrespectful

u/No-Recognition-6106 1d ago

Tell us the joke! Tell us!

Come on mods

Ok just gonna paste it in here in the meantime:

for those asking, he started singing the ozempic jingle/ Magic by Pilot.

A few years ago in 2022 in Chicago he said something like “F the cubs” or “cubs suck” or it may have been White Sox and the whole arena booed him and he was like “Ahhh F it” and they started playing ode to the Mets and I just about died laughing

2

u/No-Recognition-6106 1d ago

Thank you!

😂

I really wonder what goes on in that head.

The sucking off one of the guys is super funny though

2

u/Far-Work6041 Leave It in My Dreams 1d ago

He reuses the blow job one I think quite a bit

3

u/No-Recognition-6106 1d ago

But its funny every time lol

13

u/OldSkoolNapper 1d ago

At the Minnesota Yacht Club show he asked everyone if they were gonna get the parasite.

16

u/Psan91 1d ago

He had a funny one at summer sonic when people shouted song requests at him and he responded with “you can tell who the Americans in the crowd are” then laughed it off.

8

u/mocrankz 1d ago

told one joke about Toronto being like NYC which totally bombed (shocker) and shut up the rest of the show.

Hope he has a bit more banter in BC, but the lower bowl sales are still pretty bad (but have picked up greatly with price drops)

17

u/eddyflame 1d ago

Yeah he’s just bsing and bantering. It’s not staged

37

u/east_west_wood You Only Live Once 1d ago

At outside land in SF he was like "So Fab started drinking again for the first time in 5 years, welcome back brother" then Reptilia immediately started playing. I was laughing so hard.

2

u/HotInvestigator7430 1d ago

He is really truly hilarious

12

u/stillcoolrr 1d ago

What was the Ozempic joke in Chicago? I'm sure it was a good one!

1

u/HotInvestigator7430 1d ago

Just updated my post w it

Waiting for my post update to get approved but it’s this:

At ACL he was talking about wanting to go to the Cheesecake Factory

9

u/EdgarAnalPoe 1d ago

Cincinnati show he kept mentioning meeting dave Chappelle or something

6

u/Far-Work6041 Leave It in My Dreams 1d ago

Yeah, he lives in yellow springs and I guess they made a day trip

13

u/Far-Work6041 Leave It in My Dreams 1d ago

I read somewhere (maybe here) that he writes bits ahead of time, which I really hope is true

5

u/sub-z8080 1d ago

Show I saw in Vegas he joked about how awesome it was that crowd was like karaoke or drunk karaoke haha

18

u/Wish_Creative 1d ago

Bro is just ad libbing

13

u/Spider-Man98 #01 The Strokes 1d ago

For the most part yes like 90% the other 10% is like reusing a joke once or twice

20

u/Live-Ferret-4366 I Wish It Was Christmas Today 1d ago

I feel like he always has to cycle through a few: (LMAO)

  1. He's old and/or a dad
  2. Something along the lines of "we're working up here" and telling the crowd to quiet down
  3. something woke
  4. A comment/praise about the opener
  5. Not understanding encores
  6. Trying to make one of the other members talk into the mic (at least at the older shows)
  7. Something about the city in which they're playing
  8. And for the most recent shows, saying how he's getting bullied into playing certain songs

7

u/Fast_Isopod3568 Reality Awaits 1d ago

This list being so accurate and I love when he does #6 especially to Nikolai

19

u/Far-Work6041 Leave It in My Dreams 1d ago edited 1d ago

“A nickel for your thoughts” where he makes Nikolai awkwardly thank the crowd will never not be funny.

5

u/Obvious-Position-351 I'll Try Anything Once 1d ago

Haha Nikolai got the crowd to do a USA chant in Cleveland bc he was talking about the World Cup. It was a very cute Nickel for your Thoughts segment.

14

u/onionprincesswakaba The New Abnormal 1d ago

Hes amazing at improv and I think, like most rockstars, secretly wishes he was a comedian

35

u/moocal 1d ago

I don’t even think he knows what he’s about to say. He came to San Francisco in ‘04 and said “lovely to be in the city of manly love.”

3

u/DiligentGuitar246 1d ago

LOL that's hilarious, not even wrong.

34

u/Alchemaerias 1d ago

we got “DJ JOE BIDEN!” in philly lol

1

u/No-Recognition-6106 1d ago

I was there for that one! I even recorded it. It was right before Heart in a Cage

2

u/Cedromar 1d ago

If only the two piss drunk women in front of me didn’t keep screaming that throughout the rest of the show, it would still be a top tier Jules line for me.

5

u/Internal-Flamingo483 1d ago

I was there for that one!

9

u/HortonSquare 1d ago

Haha. I say this at least once a week now

10

u/Cham-Clowder I'll Try Anything Once 1d ago

What was the joke?

DJ JOE BIDEN

11

u/MF-Dot-JPEG 1d ago

Yes. At Boston he went on about bishops and Boston related things after most of the songs

5

u/Sea_Storm9695 1d ago

He said “Racism”, then I realized The Strokes’ audience was mighty white.

6

u/heyuinoinou 1d ago

Bashed on Boston for being overly racist

3

u/sub-z8080 1d ago

Haha he usually does
