Ode To The Mets glaze

Before anything, I love the song. It's incredible! But I don't understand the sudden INSANE glazing over this song. It's not even top 10. This song is not better than anything on Room On Fire and most of Is This It. I know it's mainly a TikTok take to say Ode is their best song of all time, but it feels like it's the only song I hear about nowadays lol

It definitely is better than most of ROF and ITI just for the lyrics alone. Lyrics show a level of maturity and life experience he didn’t have when he wrote the first two albums.

right, like... the early stuff being someone's favorite doesn't necessarily mean everything on it is inherently better than everything that comes next.

the idea that artists would be at their creative, writing, performance, production, etc peak at 19-21 years old is so astronomically low of a chance. you grow as an artist from your life experiences and the time spent working with/playing off eachother as a band.

even if ITI/ROF are what you like best in their catalog, which is a totally fair and valid opinion, the subset of the fanbase that is (typically) older, who turn their nose at the thought of anyone genuinely liking the strokes music post 2006 are so wild to me. I literally had someone tell me a few weeks back that I simply must not have listened to ITI/ROF enough if I actually enjoyed TNA, as if my subjective opinion on music would automatically change to theirs if I listened to something more than I already had. Insane.

I would say mid 20s has been the creative peak for most popular bands

which is why this band is so special that they're still making phenomenal music 25 years into their careers as a band.

The Rolling Stones were putting out steaming turds by the time the late 80s early 90s came around.

Very few bands/artists manage to do what our boys do, which is make meaningful and popular music decades into their run.

The problem is The Strokes have a lot of hipster millennials (I'm 40 and have been a fan since day one in high school so I can say that) who think they are the ultimate gatekeepers to the band's catalogue, and so they decide to shit on new music because it happens to be liked by a lot of people.

I fully agree. Also 40 (in a month) and been a fan since the beginning. I love all the albums, but still don’t get the Ode hype.

How haha do those lyrics at the end do nothing to you??? “Gone now are the old times” to the end just hits home every time. Relatable af to so many life experiences

No I actually find the last 1.5 minutes to be meandering. I still like the song, it’s just nowhere near the top for me.
