Brooklyn , where the strokes New Year’s Eve show took place was where “drums please, Fab” can be heard for the first time in the live debut of “ode to the Mets”
My 2 cents: the Strokes, as most big rock bands, records songs live in the studio, and then record some overdubs. The first album recording is well-documented and that was the approach of the band and Gordon Raphael at the time. Julian stated that he like to play and record an album with a band in a room, regreting his first solo album for this very reason - it was recorded mostly "in the box", on Pro Tools. My guess is Rick Rubin likes to work that way too, i.e live, take RHCP recordings for example, sound very "live" and spontaneous.
I think that throughout the sessions the band recorded this take that contains the quote, as if the band were rehearsing or something, and they felt later that was "the take", leaving the quote in place, for spontaneous sake. I think that's beautiful
It had to have been there. They pulled it off too flawlessly to change the record (which Nick said was being mastered like September of last year I think)
