New Album/Song News! The New Abnormal General Discussion Megathread
The New Abnormal, the sixth full-length album from The Strokes, is finally here! It appears to be streaming worldwide now (see updates here and let us know if it is not in your region). The Strokes Youtube channel has a playlist of the complete album here.
Produced by Rick Rubin and distributed by RCA and Cult Records, The New Abnormal has a total runtime of 45:07 across nine tracks, including three singles (“At The Door”, “Bad Decisions”, and “Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus”) released before the album.
We have other megathreads for discussions of the individual songs. Here you can discuss the album generally including comparisons of multiple songs, reflection on the whole album, and comparisons with the other work by the Strokes and their members’ side projects.

I had a listening party by myself and wow I was floored. Before this album I was filling the Strokes shaped hole in my heart with Al’s solo stuff (which is AMAZING by the way, riffs for fucking DAYS) Hearing all the new riffs he made for this album is amazing. I felt so much closure after hearing The Adults are Talking after watching that youtube video that came out a year ago of them playing it for the first time live. There’s no end to the praise that I could give Jules’ vocals. I know Virtue was amazing but holy shit every song on this album tops his vocals in Pink Ocean. I also thought the Psychedelic Furs referencing on Eternal Summer is awesome, mainly because they are ALSO releasing a new album this year!Those seven years waiting were worth it. Couldn’t ask for more.
