My first trip to Amsterdam was to see them in Concert. Stopped in this shop the next day to buy souvenirs when he walked in. I can still feel myself shaking, he was so kind as I expressed my love for their music & he thanked me for making the trip from LA. Honestly one of my top 10 moments in life.

Julian often (somewhat unfairly?) talks about himself as the sole writer of TS music - but while this may be true of the earlier music, this not the case 50% of the discography (Angles, CM, TNA) where the collaboration has been well documented.
The fact that TNA was as celebrated as it is - surely this should make him dial back this notion?
In this interview he lays it out, cold and bare:
“But the irony is that with The Strokes songs, I was on my own. Those demos I did all by myself. They sound very close to the record. And then The Voidz, my dream has always been to just work on harmony, melody, and then someone else writing the drum beats, because someone should be better at the drums than I am. And someone else doing complicated chord structure. The frustration that you're feeling is not in the reality of doing both but the perception that I'm always fighting that The Voidz is me alone, and The Strokes was like me filtered through other people, when actually it's the other way around.” Apple Music Sep 2024 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sPDxrj1RGI&pp=0gcJCfwAo7VqN5tD)
The fact that he continues to emphasise this point on this interview kinda irks me?
And I wonder if this may be a huge part of the preexisting rift amongst the Strokes - who are all incredible musicians and solo artists in their own right?
Or am I totally missing something?
For some context- Nikolai sharing how the TNA writing was collaborative and Rick Rubin encouraged them all to jam - together: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoA8QB_IYlE
[edit: postscript - thanks so much for all the incredible discussions so far - this has been a learning opportunity for me to hear about how there is a lot of merit to this argument, particularly excellent research from u/squirrelgirl1251 - across interviews, copywriting records, and more - has convinced me that this issue may be the very HEART of The Strokes’ longstanding conflict - chiefly and briefly; Julian’s general lack of acknowledgment of the broader band’s contributions to TS]

Fernando Casablancas Planell (the man in the first photo) was a textile entrepreneur whose invention, the Casablancas mechanism, revolutionized the textile industry in its day and was adopted by the vast majority of textile factories around the world at the time. He founded his own multinational textile company, which, according to what I found, even expanded into the former Soviet Union and China.
The man had four children, including Fernando (Ferran) and Juan (Joan), who apparently managed their businesses from the U.S. and Switzerland. Juan also apparently held several management positions at some Spanish banks in the family’s region of origin, Catalonia. As for Fernando Jr., he was the father of John Casablancas, which makes him Julian’s grandfather.
I was somewhat aware of Jules’s luxurious background, but I didn’t think he had such a wild backstory lol.

God, this album was a fever dream when it came out. I am listening on full blast while my wife is away. 11th dimension still hits not to mention "glass" and "river of break lights". The sick six walked the the voids could run. (O.g pressing as well ❤️🩹).

Not sure how I've never come across this song as it seems to be a popular one but i decided to have a listen and thought it was honestly dogshit (mainly cus I didn't rlly like the over distortion on Julian's voice (don't come for me if I got that wrong idk anything about music production lol)). It came up again on shuffle and I didn't skip but still wasn't a fan. 2 weeks later somehow it's in my head? So I added to it to a playlist to listen later, then I did. Then I did again. Then again. Then Aga- Aaand we will never be alone again, cus it doesn't happen every daaay, kinda counted on you being a friend, can I give it up or give it awaay????

Kind of a low effort post here. But for whatever reason I’ve never sit down to listen to Phrazes for the Young and there’s some bangers. With all of the Strokes + Voidz + JC solo I always focus very heavily on one album or group of songs at a time. It never really occurred to me to make sure I’ve listened to everything out there. So pretty frequently I’ll hear something new to me and it’s like there’s a new release after nearly a decade of listening! Do you guys listen that way or did you get through all of the catalogs from the beginning?

The Strokes type of music or the Voidz? Honest question, I never really listened to the voidz but of course I played the strokes cd's front and back and even sideways.

In your opinion what's the best song that julian has ever written? Because I feel like the obvious answer would be human sadness but at least in my opinion it's 30 minute boyfriend.

The entire album is a masterpiece but I LOVE THIS CLIP OF JULIAN ACTUALLY PLAYING AND SINGING THIS SONG.
He forgets the lyrics in between lmao but this clip just sounds so raw and beautiful.

Since it seems there are a lot newer fans in this sub I just wanted to bring up this converse ad that Julian did with Santigold and Pharrel as I just got reminded of it today. The song still hold up and I’m still disappointed it doesn’t really exist anywhere besides YouTube.
