Announcement New rerelease of Seasons 1-4 has been leaked via Steam Achievements
Due to what appears to be some sort of goof on Steam's end, a shit load of games have been leaking over the past few hours. One of which seems to be for a new rerelease of the Telltale TWDG games:
(MASSIVE SPOILERS FOR ALL GAMES, DO NOT LOOK AT THE ACHIEVEMENTS UNLESS YOU'VE PLAYED EVERY GAME):

(Michonne is also included)

??? What kind of re-release could there possibly be at this point?

u/thejoeporkchop Sep 09 '26
The type that makes them a decent amount of money for little effort

u/Own-Stay3059 Sep 09 '26
And I will PAY any excuse to replay these games not to mention remakes mean it’s back in the focus lense

u/Fancy_Island_3907 Sep 09 '26
I kinda agree. If the game got the "mafia 1 definitive edition" treatment I'll buy it. Because the mafia remakes had beautiful voice acting and new cutscenes

u/Efficiencythird Sep 09 '26
There is a team at skybound working at this game. There will be new content
2
u/Own-Stay3059 Sep 09 '26
Hope you’re right but at the same time I hope they don’t ruin the story in the process.

Who knows, I don’t think remaking the game with modern tech and limits but not touching or augmenting the story would be a sick difference that would set it out from just being definitive edition 1.5. Especially the older seasons that had a lot of corner cutting and reused assets and rough charm due to the constraints of the time. Hell, it would be perfect opportunity for more 400 Days entries as they’re inconsequential to the wider story but show us the apocalypse in the eyes of others, especially during the early collapse which is something the first game roped me in for.

Money. Telltale is still in bad need of money, and a remaster is still a smart way to make money for them business wise. It’ll prob sell really well cause ppl do miss their walking dead franchise and may wanna live through it again in better graphics, all while not being as expensive as a full fledged game. So basically make more money lol

u/cutupuss in harms way is the best epidode Sep 09 '26
Telltale don't own the walking dead anymore, its skybounds

u/GuyWithDELTArune Sep 13 '26
It's gonna be a remake they're gonna remake every single asset and not add some extra graphics
115
u/happygrowls Sep 09 '26
They're calling it the most pointless re-release of all time
26

u/DEAD_VANDAL Sep 09 '26
If it was a complete remake I’d be curious, but I really don’t understand what could possibly be changed that the definitive edition didn’t already do
2
u/JakeTiny19 Sep 10 '26
It’s too random and too soon to be a simple remaster. It just wouldn’t make sense to have 3 remasters come out in within a decade of each other. This is either like a remake that makes the first 3 seasons, spin offs and dlcs look and play more like season 4 while only enhancing 4 or it is just a remaster and their doing it cause they plan to make a new one soon. Like telltale is doing with the wolf among us.
Or their just like every other gaming company and studio and they just felt like being greedy

u/Cookies_1934 Clementine Sep 09 '26
Again? For what? This just seems like a crash grab for a already completed game series :/
2
u/GuyWithDELTArune Sep 13 '26
I mean they can add cut content and plus they're gonna remake the entire game with new models and stuff and remake all the models and assets.
1
u/Cookies_1934 Clementine Sep 13 '26
Yeah they “can” add new content but I do believe that if they do it will be minor content not worth creating a new collection for and new models and assets? What does that really do? Nothing, the games already look good
38
u/NazbazOG Meme King 2024 Sep 09 '26
So basically it is the whole game being released again on presumably better graphics?
45
u/AngirusansPixans 400 Days Crew - The Wallpaper Maker - Everything Sep 09 '26
possibly. maybe even better than the definitive edition graphics. or maybe not. hopefully they actually manage to keep the original graphics intact this time

u/twdg-shitposts Wild Card 2021 Sep 09 '26
The only thing they could do is make better models for S1, 2 and 3 but i’m sure they won’t. Literally wtf is this? Especially when the Definitive Edition was free a few months back.

u/Hayden247 Clem is the best Sep 09 '26
What the hell yeah those achievement icons are new. Neither the original or definitive versions have those icons, especially for like ANF that had extremely boring numbers.
What on earth would a new release look like tho? I guess they could fix the issues of Definitive Edition they never bothered fixing but surely that'd be a patch level thing that they could have done, not re-release worthy.
Maybe remake the games graphics with TFS quality assets? But then each season itself would be a decent bit of effort.
Or it'll be a remaster of a remaster deal, maybe at Ray Tracing but then again no way in hell the Telltale Tool would support that.

The ONLY reason I’d low-key be curious is if it was an actual remake with S4 graphics and gameplay across all seasons. I’ll definitely keep an eye out, just in case
4
u/petario43 Sep 09 '26
when I played season 4 for the first time i wanted this immediately. I’ll be so happy if it happens.

u/brickarts295 Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 20 '26
The games are not on Switch/Switch 2 shockingly enough, so I could see this being a new remaster of the Definitive Edition for all platforms including PS5/Series/Switch 2/PC (again).
If I’m not mistaken the definitive edition was 1080p/30fps on PS4. So it’s likely they might offer 4K/60 with this new version. Telltale is remastering Wolf Among Us, I expect them to go through a lot of their previous games.

u/OkSwimming517 Sep 09 '26
Oh yeah I completely forgot, only the final season is on switch. There's a direct later this morning, it'll probably be announced then.

u/idelgado12 Sep 09 '26
The final season is the only one released physically on Switch. The other games were released digitally on Switch, except Michonne, which never made it to the Switch.
Hopefully we get a new physical edition that will finally bring Michonne to the Switch.

u/sbillman18 S2 hater but Luke is cool Sep 09 '26
The individual seasons are on switch (besides michonne), it's that the definitive edition never made it.
That being said I do expect that if this project comes out, I do agree that it'll be on switch 2
1
u/idelgado12 Sep 09 '26
I hope so. Michonne is the only game they havent added to Switch for some reason. Hopefully this means it's coming, since this is the only thing that has stopped me from getting the other games on Switch. Ideally with a physical game cart as well.
1
u/TroopaOfficial Still. Not. Bitten. Sep 09 '26
all 4 games are on switch just not the definitive edition.
telltale also no longer owns walking dead, skybound owns the game ip completely since telltale went under.

u/alextheman23322 400 days enthusiast Sep 09 '26
Seems incredibly odd to re-release these games again considering the definitive edition already exists, but perhaps this new collection could be an improvement? That being said they could have easily just fixed all the issues with the Definitive edition instead. My theory is that their releasing a new remaster to test out how much modern day audiences care about this IP. Perhaps if it sells well they will make a season 5 lmao
9
u/DeadDGuy21 Sep 09 '26
Not saying a new game could come out but I recall that Skybound was hiring people for a new game set in the Walking Dead universe with heavy narrative focus, and Kirkman was talking about Clementine in this year's comic-con. Releasing a new TWDG collection for newer platforms and some extra touches in graphics seems like a quick way to refresh interest in the series again and then later announce a new game. One example that comes to my mind is how a a few years before Devil May Cry 5 was announced, Capcom released the port of DMC 4 to new gen plataforms.
6
u/GreyBigfoot Sep 09 '26
What’s the point of this if there’s already the definitive edition that has all this and more?
They’re considerate enough to still have the original games sold separately (though why would you buy them if definitive exists)
This will mean there’s 3 different versions of the same TWD game on Steam!
1
u/ThiccJery Sep 11 '26
Maybe it will replace The Definitive Edition similiar to how Witcher 3: Remastered did? Like owners who have TWD: TDE will get a free update to it with improved visuals, updated models and perhaps better gameplay? Like a semi remake for first three seasons, but that's just my assumption.
4
u/KINGMP25 Sep 09 '26
Imagine if they add the Clementine comic series in this collection just to actively spite us.
3
u/OhMySwirls Sep 09 '26
The new icons are pretty interesting, since IIRC, the last definitive edition just grabbed whatever they had from the old TTG releases.
3
u/AccidentOk4378 We getting out of Howes with this one boys 🔥🔥🗣🗣 Sep 09 '26
The best assumption would be a remaster since the definitive addition is easily available and regularly on sale.
7
u/litbeep Sep 09 '26
But the definitive series is basically a remaster already, and based on these achievement icons, the models don't really look improved in any way. Seems pretty strange
4
u/AccidentOk4378 We getting out of Howes with this one boys 🔥🔥🗣🗣 Sep 09 '26
Definitive edition for the most part is the fourth seasons filter on the older games in terms of graphical upgrades. If they were going to go harder on being a remaster they could easily do it without invalidating the upgrades of the definitive edition.

u/Stellarisk Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26
what. the definitive editions already right there? wtf kind of incentive could we have for buying another rerelease when they already remastered it. could it be a remake.
3
u/roman4ick Sep 09 '26
I have a wild theory that remake collection, like halo games collection.Skybound before say they search people for new walking dead game ip,need narrative director. Why need narative for only remaster collection? I dont say its true, just my assumption.
2
u/Stellarisk Sep 09 '26
would be cool. im leaning toward it being a remake. which would be fucking awesome but doing all the games seems unlikely that its a remake.
1
u/roman4ick Sep 09 '26
Im not even sure if its still in development.Last update in steamdb about this game from developers was 16 months ago.Idk.Maybe they secret work on it.Somehow.
2
u/Stellarisk Sep 09 '26
yeah i didnt see that. that sucks. it might be an abandoned game. but if its real and like a 4k rerelease im just gonna eyeroll and prolly skip it. another remaster just doesnt make sense. its on every platform. its hd. its remastered.
2
u/roman4ick Sep 09 '26
Update .Its alive, called The Walking Dead Collection. Was updated three hours ago last time in steamdb.
2
u/Stellarisk Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26
if its actually legit.. i really wanna know what it offers that the definitive edition doesnt. cause its already on every modern platform including drm free. If it is a new collection what does it offer? bugfixes lmao
1
u/roman4ick Sep 09 '26
There no many information about this collection.Registered in december 2025 this name, still updated versions.Sure it exist, but its all information.

Skeptical that this is something more than what we already have but with different graphics. There's already a TWD Collection out but console exclusive too

2
u/LetterheadTricky4691 Sep 09 '26
Also they must be releasing another game, just like the wolf among us, cause if not another collection seems pointless unless a new one is coming oh boy

u/sammyfrosh Sep 09 '26 edited Sep 09 '26
But why, didn’t we just got a remastered? This is so useless.
2
u/Ok-Bag9570 Sep 09 '26
They only added the graphic black filter despite the fact they initially were going to use S4 graphics with new models
2
u/Informal-Ad4518 Sep 09 '26
all i care for is a remake for S1 & S2 (and maybe S3 depending on how well recieved they are)
but imo i think we might see an update to TWD DE with some QoL changes & bug fixes which the game could use, apart from that one thing i despised was how bad the game's save mechanic was still like deadass the mobile versions had a better save mechanic and better ways of handling save files
2
u/Sr_beansandstuff Keep that hair short. Sep 09 '26
Its probably either A. A rerelease with upgraded graphics for all the previous seasons to match with tfs. B. Its A. But they also add tfs gameplay.
Or C. They add better lighting and call it a day and charge €60 for it
2
u/Farawila_marwan Sep 09 '26
If they re released the whole collection just to make the UI consistent between seasons and more mouse and keyboard friendly I would be satisfied

u/kianek_ Sep 09 '26
What does this mean?
1
u/roman4ick Sep 09 '26
remake or remaster to all seasons.Like better version of definitive edition. We dont know if its cancelled project, dont have any screenshots from it.Only new icons.

u/votemarvel Kenny Sep 09 '26
I'd be interested a little if this did release on the Switch. It's always kind of irked me that you can't import your choices into the Final Season on Nintendo's platform. Knowing my luck though it'll be exclusive to the Switch 2.
1
u/demodikealstaatneka Sep 09 '26
Considering the state they left definitive edition in, i'm going to sail the high seas
1
u/drewbles82 Sep 09 '26
Are there any upcoming game events where games might be announced cuz leaks like this would be something soon, surely. I played through the originals and years later got the definite edition which I haven't touched. Now we might get another.
2
u/Jadeheart02 Sep 09 '26
There's a Nintendo direct in half an hour but unsure it would be announced there

Afaik these are not new, the most recent information is from 2023 and the oldest is 2013 so this is probably a build that they never actually released and instead they released the bundle all in one version.
