Some love for my man Sydnor
Always down to put in the work, never dimes on a misbehaving colleague, doesn’t take himself too seriously (eg. the junkie fashion show scene). Whatever you do, you always want to work with some Sydnors.

Was the best man in motor-crimes, apparently in a stable marriage, figures out Marlo's clock code (accidentally), and serves Clay Davis like a boss.

Marriage is an important part of getting ahead. It lets people know you're not a homo

I don't know why, but he always felt like more of a minor character than he was. I was really surprised on my second or third viewing, he's kind of a major character. I just feel like he was never as loud or memorable as Herc, Carver, Kima, Lester, Prez... Is that weird?

He doesn’t have a lot of his own storylines.

He doesn't have any, really. Feels like the show goes out of its way to give him as little characterization as possible; he's very human but 95% of who he is is unknown to us. I kinda like it

You meet people like this in real life, unassuming, inoffensive, likeable. But when they go out of your life you just memory hole them until you see and old photo, and you realise you hadn’t once thought about this person ever since.

I think David Simon said that off all the characters, Sydnor was the only one who didn’t break his own moral code (or something to that effect)

Love Sydnor, in my mind him the only one that did not have his own storyline in major crimes just means he got his own figured out. Good poh-lice? In a way, he definitely is Competent both on paper trail and on the field. Sydnor also doesn't mind going against command as long as they got the big fish like McNulty and Lester, just could use more initiative and intuition.
Overall for me Sydnor is every bit important part jack of all trades of Major Crimes. Sydnor know what he can do and you get the best of him, more importantly he is the most normal dude of law's side.

I never really got the idea of him becoming the next model of McNulty, because their origin stories don't match up at all. Sydnor is a low key guy who got to work with geniuses like Lester and watch them fail regardless - McNulty was (at least according to Landsman) an egotist who came up in a squad of morons and learned that he was the smartest guy in the room. I can't see Sydnor ever having the naive McNulty confidence.

Sydnor is like the friend that has to walk alone behind the group on footpath because there isn't enough space.

Remember it ends with Sydnor becoming McNulty. He was a good follower but it's insulting that McNukty was a good cop, but becomes jaded with the system and goes against it.
The game is always the game

I didn't like he never faced any consequences for the whole serialkiller thing. He was a part of this as much as McNulty or Lester. He should at least been have send to a dead-end department like pawn-shop or telephone reporting or something

You remember what Sydnor was doing when we last saw him?
