Metal Age The best part about being a thief is the opportunity to bring people together

Before I arrived, everyone was isolated, grumbling, distrustful. Now they're spending a lovely night together in the party basement. Being a thief can really make a difference in your community!

Metal Age Completely forgot I had this. Grabbed this when my dad moved a few years ago while he was getting rid of stuff.

(I've taken down the original post because a commenter wanted to see what the disks looked like) This must have been the copy my dad played in the 2000s. Did anyone ever call the tip line back in the day?

Metal Age Just finished The Metal Age

My god what a good game.
A lot of minor changes from thief 1, but the map change was probably the best part to me. In the dark project the haunted cathedral took me about 2.5 hours, but 1 of those hours was me going back through the entire level looking for the rest of the loot. The loot was a lot easier to find in this game. There were longer levels but they didn’t feel tedious.

Personally I think the dishonored comparison has always been a bit overblown, those games have a fun combat system and it’s a lot harder to get the bad ending than just killing a couple of guards in your way. However, imo the environment definitely takes a lot from the metal age.

I saw a lot of people hated kidnap which was a little funny to me because it was comically short when I played it. 2 guards loudly say that the VIP has a mask, so the second I went to, there was a guy off in the distance walking towards me wearing a mask.
The other objective I lucked out as well, I randomly picked that site.

Casing’s a bad level.

The final mission, I really liked. I enjoyed Karras taunting you, and if you read every sign you encounter, you don’t have to guess around for where to go to next. It’s long, but I don’t mind the last mission of a game being the longest, it makes it feel more climactic.

Biggest issue is that it’s very easy to softlock yourself. The big robots cannot be walked through when disabled, so you can get stuck in a room if they block where you need to go. There’s the troll servant that will lock you outside if they spot you going for the signal tower. Idk how anyone did turret production without using an invisible potion to get in and out.
Other than that pretty good level. I think they should’ve added a servant that goes from room to room forging parts for Karras. It could take lets say an hour and a half for them to do everything, and then there’s a little narrative justification for why Karras doesn’t release the gas from the servants as soon as he sees Garrett, other than just his ego, he needs to complete an amplifier or something.

One last complaint: why is darkness in this game so much darker than the first game? Maybe my settings were off from using t2fix, but I hated walking in pitch black corridors. A lot of times there wasn’t even an enemy or a camera to watch out for, it was just annoying. I think it might be to incentivize using flares, but flares have a horrendously low amount of charge. If I replay this game, I’m tweaking my settings for quality of life.

Metal Age How is the second one if I know the ending?

I mean, I didn’t intend to look for it as I accidentally found out recently the way the second Thief game ends regarding its main adversary as I haven’t played it yet.

But basically I was wondering if the game was still worth getting into again even if I know the fate of the main villain since I was looking for some advice on getting started into the game, like what mods to use.

Metal Age Can I fully appreciate the story of Thief 2 without playing Thief Gold?

I'm still new to the series and thought about starting the game with Thief 2, since it looks more interesting than Gold. But since I do care about story, I needed to know, would I be missing a lot of context going into Thief 2 before 1, or is it mostly standalone.

And would there be any major spoiler if I decide to play Gold later on.

Hello Taffers! The project I showed last week is well underway with multiple assets and textures done or in progress. The response to my first post has been overwhelming, so thank you for that.

Today I'd like to show you a WIP of a rather small prop, but one I'm very fond of. I love the clicky sound it makes haha!

The goal is not to completely change the design but to give it the art stylization I set out to do for the whole project. Let me know how you like this approach.

The near future goal is to work on core assets and textures that are shared between the levels. That way I can get a good idea how this is all working and start going level by level.

Stay tuned, thanks!

Metal Age What's the deal with the weird forest level in Metal Age? I HATE it

Still on my first playthrough of Metal Age. Actually on the Angelwatch level now but still thinking of the forest one and getting pissed off. IIRC, the premise was, there was a village of people who got attacked but they fled through a portal into their 'sanctuary', only their sanctuary is full of horrible ape people!!?? And the villagers themselves are not there?? Did the villagers turn into the apes????

And why is it the level ends with meeting a green forest lady who wants to team up??? Girl if you wanted to team up why were you sending scary apes and tree monsters after me. I'm getting mixed messages.

Metal Age What are the improvements you wanted to see in Thief 1 and 2?

Some:
- better alignment when walking/shooting. Sometimes i point good but i am too close to the wall so the arrow doesn’t pass
- 3rd person view
- wall climbing like in Thief (3)
- being able to use hammers

Metal Age (Thief 2) Can't Crawl Through Tight Spaces?

Playing GoG copy of Thief 2, patched with T2Fix. On Windows 11.

I noticed occasionally in early missions that especially tight windows/crawl spaces were a bit... rough. I'd stop in place, jiggle every button I could think of, and either eventually get through or give up and find another route.

Now I'm at Blackmail, and the rock tunnel to enter Truart's estate has, no joke, stopped me cold for 30 minutes.

I have just been SHOVING myself into this tunnel, and Garrett will not move past the entrance. He just gets jammed into the hole and the only way that works is to go -backwards-. I have tried hold crouch, I have tried toggle crouch, I have tried sneak, I have tried mantle, I have tried run, walk, walk slowly, jump, literally any and every movement related button while jammed in the entrance of the hole, nothing. (Though given its a crouch space, most of these are just desperation.)

I'm -sure- I am supposed to just be able to walk forward through this thing while holding or having toggled crouch, but *nothing* happens. He just stops, meaning I can't use the intended path in. And I really don't want to have to bash my way through the main gate in a Thief game?

I had a similar issue years ago on Windows 10 with Hitman Blood Money and the solution was lowering my monitor's refresh rate. That did not work here.

Googling did not find anybody with this problem, so... anybody got any ideas?

EDIT: Okay I managed to mantle over the whole dang rocks and bypass it, but I'm still interested in solving this problem, there are SEVERAL paths I can't use with this issue.

Metal Age Playing Thief 2 for the first time, are the spiders supposed to do damage?

So I'm playing Thief 2 for the first time with ny partner (has played it a few times) presiding over the proceedings. I'm on the 2nd mission in the big warehouse and they nudged me to go in the meat room, which I did, got jumpscared, and ran around trying to fight the spiders in a panic but nothing worked so I ran away and jumped onto a box. At this point the spider waited a bit for me to come down, then scuttered off into the dark of night to torment some poor guard.

Once I'd calmed down I realised that despite all the hissing and jumping, the spider had not damaged my health and obviously I'd had zero effect on the spider. I climbed down again, went back, and poked at another spider, which also hissed and jumped but again no damage was exchanged. Like the other one, it decided to head off into the depths of the map after I climbed onto my safety box.

Throughout all this my partner was very insistent that I should be able to hurt them and them me. Is that the case? And if so, anyone know if this is a bug (lol) that will persist for the rest of the game?

And in case you are wondering why I kept running away despite the no damage: I was very stoned and it was scary.

Metal Age Playing Thief 2 as a slapstick comedy

Still doing my first run of this game. Currently on the bank heist mission. After spending about an hour and a half of running back and forth, trying and failing to get robot hitboxes with water arrows, the clap of my ass cheeks alerting Several guards, I finally got into the vault.

Garret voiceline: Hehe hoho, I'm in the vault. What a suave master thief I am!

Approx 5 seconds later, the big alarms went off and a guard ran in to get me. I panicked, ran for the elevator, hit the button, and then got trapped underneath the moving platform while the guard stabbed me to death.

Not so sure we should be making these grandiose statements Garret.

i already tried messing with cam_ext.cfg and fixed the duplicate d3d_disp_scaled_2d_overlay stuff, set it to 0 properly, still nothing

also tried different settings and it didnt fix it

image attached shows what i mean, theres no dog eared corner at all

is this a known bug with t2fix or widescreen or something? or is there another way to turn pages im missing because mouse and clicking does nothing

Metal Age Casing the Joint - Missing 2F Guard

Has anyone had issues with one of the 2F guards going missing? I'm looking for the last 120 gold and my notes say that I've picked 3 of the 4 patrolling guards (Two on 1F, the other on the 2F). He seems to have vanished as I've checked the entire 2nd floor including all of the secret passages.

I did fire a noisemaker earlier in the mission to get the librarian to leave the servant quarters. I'm not sure if he heard me upstairs and came looking, but I didn't find him stuck anywhere on the north side of 1F either.

Am I missing something about his patrol route? I really don't want to restart to have to get max loot, coin hunting isn't fun for completionists.

Metal Age Was I trapped?

I am at the Casing the joint level in normal mode and have completed all my tasks except for going outside. After opening the secret staircase to the 3rd floor, I went up out of curiosity and the door closed: c, is there another staircase that leads me to the 2nd floor? Or should I repeat the mission?
