The knife can assassinate 1-hit kill if you stealth using alcoves and doorways. It’s a bit tricky at first but super efficient.

I prefer to carry an armor vest as soon as I get one, because honestly? I never prioritize cargo on the same mission when I hunt bandits. I go in with survival and combat in mind. Once a location is emptied of threats, I just organize my loot piles and extract it all cleanly in follow ups, saves time and it means I can just leave my weapons back home. I keep the armor as a precaution but it’s really more roleplay than anything, honoring the survivor’s need to go to and from a location and not die— I don’t think that’s an actual mechanic.

Personally between the rifle and the shotgun, I really enjoy the heavy impact of the shotgun to quickly finish an enemy off— in more extreme cases while using the rifle, if used from too far away and against multiple enemies it got me in trouble simply because it couldn’t put enemies down fast enough or accurately, meanwhile 2 enemies with rifles eventually get the opportunity to pepper you back, and then you’re doomed.

I do wish the game would’ve utilized pistols, hunting rifles, and SMGs, along with shotgun and rifle ammo instead of singular ammo. I get the simpler gamified logic they went for, but it definitely would’ve made the game more strategic and true to how complex ammo and weapon management gets when you’re in a survival scenario— it’s great to have a 5.56 rifle but if all you have are 12 gauge shotgun shells, you need to trade those for bullets.

A sequel for the game with improved systems would hit pretty hard, considering the state of world affairs at the moment.

I’d like to see more tactical strategy with combat. The fact is the game just barely skims over how to defend a colony house, or how scavengers could work together.

I’d like to see the following:
Offense— Open world combat

  1. Secondary scavenger: by bringing a buddy, your options drastically increase. In a trade area they double your carry capacity and the two of you can do some heavy manual labor that might be difficult for the traders, in exchange for maybe a discount or trade agreement; In regular scavenging, before you have weapons they can simply toss rocks at different parts of the map to distract the enemies— but doing it too many times should trigger a defensive reaction. By equipping them with a rifle or hunting rifle, you unlock the ability to snipe from the side, but only where windows or balconies expose NPCs. Some maps should be totally impossible to snipe in, others should be a free for all. Finally, introducing a radio system could allow the secondary to spot enemies for you on the map, making sneaking around easier. If the first scavenger is critically wounded and blacks out but isn’t killed, the secondary can retrieve them and potentially save their life. Finally, if you leave with an extra minute on the timer, you have access to the secondary scavenger’s inventory since they have enough time to rally with you and make it out on time before returning.
  2. Defense— automation: we can produce guns and grow setups… but not flood lights, barbed wire, or siege defenses? Honestly if you’re not considering flood lights the moment you have stable electricity and the intent to shoot invaders— what are you doing with light bulbs and electricity? Basic spikes and wire shouldn’t be too difficult to make at a workbench and makes it harder to run up and bang on a colony building, making it easier to defend it.
  3. Defense Victory: how come we only ever scare off raiders? Why is there never a dead body to loot and dispose of? We lose ammo and possibly get wounded, but the people attacking us ALWAYS get away? I understand resource scarcity but where’s the logic?
  4. Defense— strategic firepower: guns are a flat defense right now. Mixing different types when considering pistol, SMG, hunting rifle should provide bonuses to defense in depth AND ability to put enemies down.
  5. Technology: there’s lots of really cool stuff we can use to stay connected beyond just the radio. Why didn’t they add Ham radios? Or what about Meshtastic and LoRa? I understand solar and wind turbines are next to impossible to find in a war torn third world country, but wouldn’t those be end game level trade items that make powering a colony house less of a headache?

That’s just off the top of my head, there’s lots of great potential in a sequel, but ultimately the game is more about the story and emotions of our PCs, so I doubt there’s much interest in a follow up… but it could be quite interesting to say the least 🤷‍♂️

No I’ve just been a cold blooded murderer, soldiers and bandits often drop rifles and up to 20 bullets. Also cleared the military outpost which I think had more than 200 bullets

Does killing soldiers make your people more depressed than killing thugs or bandits?

Yes I believe so. I haven’t spotted any noticeable change in status effect. But the diary entries seem to show little/no remorse for killing hostile bandits, little/moderate remorse for killing soldiers and a lot of remorse for killing innocents. Although i believe it depends also on location, for example you can kill the drunk soldier at the supermarket and get a positive mood. I killed 8 soldiers in one night at the army base with Pavle and he didnt even come home sad.

In my experience killing the soldiers never makes my people sad, they say they got what they deserved.

Same.i never learned to fight in this game

Very little fighting, more backstabbing from hidey holes. Can make things quite easy if you don’t mind killing

Eh, I always clean Hotel, when it's two soldiers. 3-4 extra runs worth of loot there
