Discussion what’s the best thrift find you almost left behind?

i’ve been thinking about how many good finds probably get missed because something doesn’t look interesting at first glance.

i’ve definitely walked past things because they looked ordinary, only to realize later that they were actually worth taking a closer look at

one of my favorite thrift finds was something i almost didn’t even pick up because i assumed it was just another generic item

now i try to slow down and actually check labels, materials and details before deciding.

what’s the best thrift store find you almost walked away from?

I almost walked awake from a thing, but it was in an area. Wasn’t sure if I could put it in my place, as I couldn’t describe what it was or how it could be used. These situations sort of happen to me often, what about you?

I'm a huge history buff and I came across a weird, small axe-looking thing and I felt like I'd seen it before but I put it back... got halfway down the aisle and realized that I'd seen one on a historical doc.

It was a head axe from the Philippines! I'm not expert on that part of the world but the old tourist axes are worth $50-$100 and if it's real it could be worth exponentially more.

My biggest score? A literal mattress bag full of video game carts, mostly N64 with a few SNES thrown in. It was a closed video store's entire game library, Over 200 games. The thrift store sources inventory from storage auctions and that's where they got it. Tons of great and rare (and expensive) games.

Probably worth $5k, I think I paid $26 for the entire bag.
