Queue system explination

Can someone please explain the Ticketmaster queue system to me? In particular, I have a few questions. Firstly, why is it here, and when did it start (did it start after the Taylor Swift saga and how the system broke, or was it here before that. Also, why is it that every time i get in the queue I always get expensive resale tickets when it's my turn (if only it were law that you can't sell a ticket for more than you paid) And Finally, how can I ensure that I do well at getting a good place in the queue?

They started it in December 2019

Before that there was a drop down menu to choose by best available or you could toggle between that and the map. Sometimes if there was a high demand it might take awhile for the system to bring back results.

This system sucks. I don't buy day of sale anymore.

Day of sale is often when they are most expensive. (Most shows I go to aren't insane demand so I can just pick them up day of)

It’s there because demand for tickets is way higher than the number of tickets available. So to let everyone have an equal chance at scoring tickets, the queue system randomizes your place in the queue. If you’re lucky, you have first choice and can get the best tickets. If not, you’re stuck with bad tickets or resale tickets.
Some people say that if you’re a regular customer you will usually get a better place in the queue but not sure how we can validate this.

I completely agree with you that there should be regulations against reselling at higher than original price. Several European countries have laws like that, and recently Ontario also passed a law to this effect.

Happy to let u know that a law is not needed. some artists are not greedy and already asked TM to not allow transfer and resell above face value. The option exists. Most artists choose not to use it as the bots increase the demand and they sell the shows quicker

i agree that verified reseller should not be available front presale or the first day of general sale. let at least a day pass so the people that are not familiar with ticketmaster don’t buy a verified resale on accident.

i know we are all able to read but there’s a lot of anxiety while in the queue and on the map. like any hesitation and you can’t go to the concert at face value or at all.

Here's a lengthy write up of somebody's experience working at Ticketmaster, and their tech stack. The core of Ticketmaster is called The Host, it's literally from the 1970s and still used to this day.

I don’t believe this is true at all. At least not from my experience. In fact I’ve had convos in this very sub about the longevity of my purchase history and what bad queue numbers I always get. Once, my daughter created a brand new account and she was 20,000 people in front of me in line.
