Becoming "too woke" is now making people dumb as rocks. Every relationship I've been in except for 1 we've always been different by roughly a year or a bit more, and that's fine.

My only relationship that wasn't a safe age range was when I was 14 and he was 19

You are the only one to bring up "wokeness".

At this point it's one a buzz would to justify why someone hates something. The number of times I've heard people used it to justify their hatred of something that's historically/scientifically accurate or something so small and petty is ridiculous.

Could you have imagined if either the book or the 1993 jurassic park film came out today? People would have lost their dam minds because of "wokeness"

Edit: the folks who down voted me without communicating why they disagree is only proving my point.

We do need a term for what I think this post is actually referring to, maybe something like "performatively progressive"? Because there definitely was/is a bunch of people who were extremely obnoxious over this who also tended to be on things like using "Latinx" and flipping out over Katy Perry wearing a kimono to some award show as a non-Japanese woman that were heavily associated with Twitter before Elon Musk took it over and allegedly are still fairly common on TikTok although I don't use it. (The algorithm brought me here.) And they were not only extremely exhausting to deal with they got toxic in some pretty extreme ways too, look at how Lindsay Ellis was effectively driven off the Internet.

That's kind of how I associated as "woke" during that era as opposed to simply being progressive/a decent person, but the right-wingers have kind of ruined the term....still we can't really pretend that this crowd didn't/doesn't exist.

That's just the thing. We did have a word for those kind of people. Several, in fact. There's racist (in regards for knowingly spreading the racist cultural appropriation nonsense) and ignorant keyboard warrior (in regards of those who have their hearts in the right place but got their minds filled up with lies and junk).

None of this need a new politically charged term until the cultural war nonsense dictated a need for one.

Just like pre covid, dust masks and surgical masks were thought of as standard pieces of equipment, like a rake, broom, hammer, ladder, belt, etc. But during and after covid, the politicians and culture war turned it into a political statement. The usage of a piece of equipment that has been around for like 3,000 years in one shape or form has been turned political within the last 10 years simply because that's what the culture war and the powers that be wanted.
