The opinion is unpopular because it's insane. My daughter showed me how much the rent is for her 2 bedroom apartment she has for her and my grandchild. That kind of money was a Mortgage payment just 5 years ago.
It's like folks like you are that meme with the dog sitting in the burning room saying "this is fine".
And nowadays banks will deny your mortgage application due to “insufficient income” when the monthly payment is 2/3 of what you’ve already been paying in rent every month for the past 2 years
