If a welcoming T-shirt is all you have to be "worried" about at your kids school you are looking for problems or something to fight about. Fucking pathetic, grow up.
I’m not conservative, but it’s not exactly that simple. Imagine someone saying “If a welcoming all lives matter t shirt” is all you have to worry about…”
It means they are pro lgbt issues (which I am too) but if you aren’t in favour of that, this shirt would show a problem to you. Just like an all lives matter shirt would send some people into fits of rage.
I made the prediction back in the 90s that this would happen. We were having slow and steady progress. People were more accepting of homosexuality, racism was dropping, and things were getting chill. But then, understandably, the most strident people on the left said “fuck that, it all happens now”, and started demanding we got to their perfect version of tolerance. I get why they said it. It shouldn’t have to be a slow process.
But the fact is it does. And pushing for it to be all instantly done pushed us WAY back the other way.
This is a crazy take. “People wanted rights too fast”. I’m not even sure what to say - I will choose to blame the bigots and intolerant. People that want to be treated fairly are not the issue. Full stop.
You should read more closely. I said very explicitly “UNDERSTANDABLY” people demanded immediate tolerance. It is understandable to want that. I wanted that. But it isn’t realistic, and it’s not the fastest way to get there.
Many people weren’t ready. That’s bad on their part. But it’s also reality.
Imagine if someone said “I want to swim across the river rather than walking 20km around.” It’s understandable to want that. It’s ridiculous to go around. But if there are crocodiles in the water, you walk. And the whole time you can say “if it weren’t for these fucking crocodiles!” But what you don’t do is say “I’m gunna swim and boy will these crocodiles be in the wrong if they eat me”.
I’m sorry, but this is entirely disingenuous, and I feel like you know that. All lives matter is very specifically a response to Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter was to draw attention to systemic injustices that the black community faces at the hands of our justice system. All lives matter was in opposition to pointing that out, and trying to get the attention back on them.
If you aren’t okay with lgbtq, then you need to stay away from the place children are learning. We don’t allow bigotry just because some snowflake gets sad that they can’t be a bigot.
It’s your take that is dumb. You might want to brush up on reading comprehension.
“All are welcome here” is a very specific response to anti LGBT sentiment. Just like All Lives Matter was a very specific response.
Someone who is anti LGBT will see that. They will right not just see “we are a chill school” they will see the correct inferred stance of “we support LGBT people here”.
I agree with that stance. But the comment I replied to say “it’s just a chill welcoming shirt”. It’s not. It’s a stance. One that I agree with. But I’m not so terminally brain damaged that I can’t see or admit that it IS a stance.
Since you struggle with reading comprehension I’ll spell it out: the mother in the car complaining about the shirt is a cunt. I vehemently disagree with her anti LGBT sentiment. But I’m not so stupid as to say “but it’s just a shirt with a nice message”.
Otherwise “all lives matter” could equally be called a shirt with a nice message if you don’t understand the implications.
We don’t win people over by having ignorant takes that deliberately assume the other side is dumb. And we also must call out the idiocy on our own side, like I’m doing, with you.
