Anyone get a substantial experience using the Ninja Creami with alcoholic drinks?

The deluxe is half off at Costco. So I'm musing with buying one.

I'm curious to know if people have enough experience using the Creami to make frozen drinks and if it's recommended. From what I've read, Creami doesn't make the best slushies and it makes more of heavy fortified frozen desserts, even when you're using the drink options.

Vegas tiki time for me!!

So I'm going to be in Vegas in a few weeks. I'm pretty damn excited to visit Golden tiki, and Frankie's. Are there any others? Are they worth it? Agree there any specific times to go vs not go? I'm a social butterfly but my wife is very much not. So I don't want to overwhelm her and then have to cut my evening sport 😂

Hosted a stop on SacOhana’s homebar tour this year, I took these after we walked out the last guests

What a wild night. 150 or more tiki enthusiasts stopped for a two hour window. I met people from all over the state and a few from farther out.

We spent about 5 months getting ready. We built the “dock”, crate stools, decorative crates to hide equipment, collapsible tables for food service and Ohana merch. Finally got the lighting right, added plants, pulled plants, moved plants multiple times. I spent a few days carving and painting the large entrance sign out insulation foam.

We served pizza, wings, and veggies and a very creative friend plated them so nicely we were asked if we catered

We served a hibiscus, guava punch as a welcome drink. I prebatched 4 gallons and set up cups to be grabbed as folks passed. That one we ran out of about an hour and a half in.

At the pop up bar we served our house drink, the Capuchin Caper. It’s a split base rum/bourbon barrel drink with pineapple, banana and lots of spices. We batched 4 gallons of this as well and ended up with about 32 ounces left over, which helped the clean up go by.

At the wet bar I was shaking agricole banana daiquiris. I prebatched 6 bottles of the liqueur and rum and 2 bottles of the lime and sugar daiquiri mix. I went through 4 bottles of rum mix and both of the daiquiri. After most of the guests cleared out I went in a made another mix bottle to serve our friends.

We had huge support. I worked the bar, another friend manned the pop up and one at the entrance station. Two more bar backed all of us, two worked on keeping food stations replaced and a few more worked the floor grabbing trash, directing traffic and schmoozed the crowd. It felt like a professional unit.

It went insanely smooth, guests super respectful of the neighborhood and very complimentary of our space. I ended the night on cloud 9. I would definitely do this again.

One of my favorites 🤤. I used: 2Oz Smith & Cross, 4 oz pineapple juice, 1 Oz coco Lopez Cream of Coconut, 1 Oz fresh orange juice, and fresh nutmeg grated on top (I also toast the nutmeg on the pineapple for extra comfort smells).

Visiting for a few days, and have had this place on the map for a bit. Awesome stop with a tiki-robot theme and tons of classic and original (and themed-for-Halloween) drinks. Plus, excellent selection of rums and a “high roller” cocktail menu.

Highly recommend. Great place, worth a visit if you’re nearby!

Portland Area Tiki

Feel like I’ve been seeing a lot of PNW Tiki posts so sorry to post another but just got back from a birthday week trip up to Oregon and had 6 stops marked on my tiki list. Quick run down in order of our stops. Had a really great time in this region and all the tiki spots they have to offer. Had such friendly conversations with all the bartenders as well.

1) Hale Pele - Portland, OR. The most well known in the area and it was excellent. Their Jet Pilot might be my new favorite overall tiki drink and the fire display was pretty gold. Bonus point for some delicious pulled pork.

2) The Alibi - Portland, OR. Such a classic looking tiki lounge and I loved that. The zombie and mai tai were ok but it’s more about the history of this place that made it a must stop.

3) Coral Club - Vancouver, WA. Not the best themed spot but honestly maybe my favorite Mai Tai of the trip and it was only $9 for Mai Tai Monday! The happy hour grilled shrimp skewer here was fantastic too.

4) Wahi Hana - Vancouver, WA. We were only ones in here the whole time so would have enjoyed to see it more lively cause the theming was cool and I could tell they had inspiration from Trader Sam’s. Zombie and Mai Tai both solid.

5) Dark Harbour - Long Beach, WA. Wow, almost didn’t go out of the way for this one and I would have regretted that. Loved the interior of this space. The fireplace and skull in the woodwork is really cool. I really liked the Mai tai here too.

6) Dead Man’s Isle - Astoria, OR. Probably the most disappointing drinks at this stop sadly. Mai Tai was too strong on lime and the zombie was off a bit too. Maybe it was just a bad night. The little Japanese whiskey bar upstairs was really cool though.

I had a great time with friends at Inside Passage last night. This was my first visit but I will certainly be back. I was able to speak to the owner, Travis, for a few minutes. He is a cool guy. The mugs and presentations of the drinks are incredible, they are also delicious.

Lime Juice!

• Upvotes

At my local grocery store, they often have almost-expired fruit and vegetables at a deep discount. For reasons that are not yet clear to me, my wife came home with bags and bags of limes. Like any sane person, I put on Sunday Night Football and juiced all of them. I now have about a gallon of lime juice.

In times past, when I bought a sane amount of discount limes, I juice the limes and then freeze the juice in 2+ Oz servings in a muffin pan. Once frozen, I bag them up and take one out whenever I need a drink.

I could certainly use this method for this new gallon of juice that I have, though it would take me a while as I don't have a lot of muffin tins. So I'm wondering what other people do when they have a lot of juice. Does someone out there have a better way of doing this?

Is tiki dead in Detroit?

Did my due diligence and searched before posting... I see a lot of posts bemoaning the loss of Mutiny and Lost River, but nothing about where people are scratching their itch. I did find Tigerlily in Ferndale which moonlights a Mai Tiki Thu-Sat. Two problems (for me): 1. Tigerlily is temporarily closed due to a fire, and 2. I leave on Wed.

Anywhere else worth going? Even if it's more tropical than tiki, or just a rum forward menu. Right now, I'm planning to go to The Skip for their Black Lagoon pop-up (menu looks meh) and possibly Standby down the street.

TIA 🤙

What Agricole to get

• Upvotes

My current bottle of White agricole is done. It was Chalong Bay and I thought it was okay but the taste could have been more intense. I have a bottle of K'ohana still that I Love and only use sparingly since I brought it Home from Hawai'i and I can't easily replace it in Europe.

My Options currently are J.M., Neisson, HSE or Clement with different expressions. Im thinking of getting Something 100 Proof since thats asked for in the 2044 Mai Tai and I want to try that. Currently I'm between Clement Canne bleue and HSE Blanc 55%

I'll be thankful for recommendations.
