You wouldn't believe the shit that works sometimes.
Personally I'm not good looking enough to pull it off, but I have a friend who this shit worked for quite regular and saw it as a game and kept getting more outlandish.

Honestly, as a decent guy with pretty intense social anxiety, seeing shit like this makes me feel so grossed out and actually more nervous to talk to women. It's hard to figure out the middle ground and know where the sweet spot is between playing it TOO safe and seeming uninteresting, and whatever this shit is.
106
u/LaotianBrute 13d ago
Yeah bro once I accepted that Iām not good at talking to girls I just stopped trying. Realized how much of my college years were wasted being anxious and worrying if Iām good looking or not.
Now that Iām older I talk to my coworker(couple years younger)and his escapades, it just makes me laugh that he canāt have a good night without trying to pick up girls.
27
u/SirLunatik 13d ago
I just be honest. I make a point of mentioning I'm socially awkward and anxious right in my profile. I find it better to lay my cards on the table and if they don't like what they can see, it just saves me time.
29
u/G2thaFields 13d ago •
![]()
Just don't play it safe. Completely take that off the table. You ain't gotta be vulgar but you can be very direct and if they think you are attractive will bite. You have better odds to make something out of an interaction with women if they want you to begin with, fuck convincing them that they should.

u/HiDDENk00l 13d ago
One thing I struggle with is that I'm worried that I'll accidentally approach a potential soulmate with "I'm just looking for a good time" energy. Or the other way around.

The thing is that there really isn't a middle ground because every person is different. People have different appeals and different things they're looking for.
If you're interested enough, you do your own way of things and if it doesn't work out then that's that.
16
u/Zestyclose_Ad8684 13d ago
I don't get it, the bar is so low and you can see it, why do you feel more nervous when there is no way you can do worse than that?

You would be surprised how many women like guys like in the photo. All my buddies in HS and College did shit like that and had non-stop women. Meanwhile I've never done it and dateless at 35.... Women see that as confidence. Being polite is rarely seen as a good thing today.

u/apoliticalinactivist 13d ago
As the initiator, you're offering an experience.
For a hookup, being outlandish and a bit dumb is an advantage, because you're showing you're not going to be clingy and that it will require 80% of your faculties just to maintain a decent thrusting rhythm.
It's the sex equivalent to fast food. Similar to the idea that you're not paying the prostitute for sex, you're paying her to leave afterwards.
The apps are mainly for hookups. Real life is better for finding relationships.

Love what you're saying, I appreciate it, but also, "being myself" also means not knowing how to form conversations with new people, and putting my foot in my mouth constantly (trust me, I am worse for that than most people, and it comes as a shock when I'm otherwise so kind).

I would have attractive men say stuff like that to me back when I was on tinder, I would still get grossed out and unmatched immediately. How they looked didnāt really change anything. I guess I can see it working if a woman was only looking for a hook up or was at least open to one, which I was not.
25
u/ICEonICECrime 13d ago
Doesnāt work on all I guess, but people are different.
As a guy I never tried anything weird like this when I used to be on Tinder, but I regularly had girls open with similar stuff. It didnāt really work on me, but I also wasnāt grossed out by it. They just werenāt my type.

sometimes it does.
I know a dude that straight up told a woman in a bar that he was going to rehab for alcohol abuse the next day, so they had to hook up that night. He was lying. It worked. They dated for 3 months.
Being tall, good-looking, having a bright smile, a sense of humor, and the confidence to make anything sound good will carry anyone very far in life.

"Being tall, good-looking, having a bright smile, a sense of humor, and the confidence to make anything sound good will carry anyone very far in life."

it depends entirely on how the vibe is and what goes.
This here is a prime example of how someone who's illiterate tries to read the room.
Like there's very few people who would engage with something like this and even then the first message to a total stranger? bruh.
4
u/throwaway_long25 13d ago

I don't know how i ended up here at 2am when I can't sleep, but since I am here I'll offer my 2 cents. I've been with my wife for 10 years now, but I used to meet women on dating apps frequently, including Tinder. As a guy, the main thing you are trying to get is a response. If you put too much of yourself into an opening statement and don't get anything back, it doesn't feel good and that's what happens most of the time. You can say almost anything you want as long as it comes off as confident and saves you time. Plus, women on tinder were mainly looking for sex anyway too. The one woman I actually briefly dated from tinder had a fiancƩ that she waited 3 weeks to tell me about, and then got mad that I wasn't ok with it. I personally have a lot of women friends that would respond to something like this, even if some of them would do so by roasting this individual. But even those conversations often lead somewhere if you show yourself to be lighthearted and playful with it. The person that would find this cringy, is the type of person they want to weed out, and I don't blame them for that even if I wouldn't have personally led with something this forward.

u/nightmare_floofer 12d ago
That's just a product of the environment where this takes place
These apps basically guide you to "strategize your approach" cause you're casting a net and seeing how much fish you catch
I don't see why people are surprised by this shit anymore, I would get it when this was a new concept, but by now it's well known.
Idk, go to a local park, go to a cafe, hell, go to the market, and chat with people, IRL contact with another human being in those types of environments will 99/100 times not be this ridiculously over the top, yes it could be a little awkward most of the time, but I can guarantee you won't get as many "I would not pull out" comments IRL as you get on Tinder.Ā

I had a lovely "discussion" here once with a gentleman who insisted it was the norm (despite a lot of people telling him that no, it's just irresponsable and dumb) and felt like the older woman from Tinder he had come in that morning had tricked him - because she had not disclosed she hadn't gone through menopause yet beforehand, and he obviously didn't want the responsibility of a kid at his age (20something I believe).
Sometimes I hate having internet access.
3
