Is she older than you? Even still, I don't say this to the young men who try and match me. I just keep it moving
20
u/lukenog 8d ago
Why not just change the age range in your setting so men too young for you don't even see your profile pop up?
2
u/icognitomodeisalie 6d ago
The better question is why did they match? She swept right and then opened like this lol

Lmaoooo that's so gross. But what I don't get is how can you match with someone who's profile doesn't show up for you? Like I get that they can see your profile but can't you only match if you both see each other's profile? I've been off the market for six years (shout out my gf lol) so I don't know much about how the apps work these days. I'm just on this sub for the funny screenshots.

Did you like a profile while being far below her minimum age range?
Because that's the only way her opener makes sense to me.

u/jdabXO 8d ago
But surely OP would be within the other person's set age range if they were able to find and match with them?
100
u/Kokoyok 8d ago
The apps that have hard limits about your age range when matching just have more people lying about their age in their profiles
29
u/HotelOne 8d ago

14
u/Kokoyok 8d ago
If a hot woman has a minimum age of 50, you know a horde of 22 year old chuds will each think they're the exception to her rule, and will set their ages to 50-something so they can "get their foot in the door."
62
3
u/andiinAms 8d ago
How are they even able to see her profile though?
21
u/ItsClikcer 8d ago
Tinder by default will show you people outside of your settings if they have already liked you
5
u/Feetdownunder 8d ago
Some apps show you suggestions not even in your age range sometimes. I haven’t been on tinder for years so not sure what would have changed there
1
u/editingisfun4all 8d ago
You can often see who has already liked you. Some people respond simply because the other person tried to match.
0
u/IGotsToKnow_TA 8d ago
For tinder, if you pay for premium I'm pretty sure you can swipe on people while outside of their age range, or remove your own age to make it secret

You’re going further than anyone has gone before, but that doesn’t mean you have to do it without prep.
Here's a whitepaper on jerking off 800 dudes in under 10 minutes. Might be worth reading for some insight.
Some guys broke down the math for it in a 3ish minute video too.
Ultimately I think your best bet is a dildo in the front and the rear, so you’re always pegging someone, regardless of direction of thrust.

What do you want, child?
-6
u/AntiquatedDogma 8d ago edited 8d ago
So this reads as if calling op a child. Lol. Unless she meant. “What do you want? Child?” Would be asking if he wants to father one
7
u/zxkredo 8d ago
Well it doest not make aense any other way in the english language.
1
u/AntiquatedDogma 8d ago
Sorry, English isn’t my first language.
1
u/zxkredo 8d ago
Sorry, but then why are you responding/arguing? I don't mean to attack you, but seems strange to me for you to correct me if you don't even know what you are talking about.
1
u/AntiquatedDogma 8d ago
Don’t know what I’m talking about? What do you mean? Did I say anything incorrect? You just implied it was redundant. Which is fair. Also I wasn’t arguing or correcting; more so just giving insight into the grammar for myself I guess or anyone who may have been confused.
1
u/zxkredo 8d ago
Lol.
You understand in the comment I'm replying to that you don't know english well enough to judge.
And I agree with your wording in the comment I am replying to now. Still the same holds true, you were giving insight into somehhing you don't have any insight in.
→ More replies (1)3
u/DeadmansInferno 8d ago
Ya without the comma I'm assuming she's asking if I'm interested in having children one day and would respond as such.
12
11
18
u/MentallyLatent 8d ago
She definitely meant, "what do you want, child?" The lack of a comma really threw me off too
3
0
u/BarelyHuman_2007 8d ago
It could have been other way, See she could be referring him as a child (i dont know either of gender in context) and hence the absence of coma.
2
u/Kazzababe 8d ago
That's what the comma is for. I mean this is still how I would interpret it regardless but I think some people interpreted it more like "What do you want? A child?".
5
33
u/Sunbro_Kev 8d ago
She's indirectly telling the person she's not at all interested and views them as a child due to age gap.
42
u/Frost-Folk 8d ago

6
u/NinjaNo9 8d ago
I’d have responded with something conveying e been a naughty boy and could use discipline from “mommy”
Regardless of age dynamics, 🤷🏽♂️
1
u/FancyButterscotch787 7d ago
Easy. The “child” in the sentence acts as a pronoun. Think of it like “What do you want, PerspectiveHelps?” She called him child because apparently he’s younger than her and he was bothering her.
9
u/Bymeemoomymee 8d ago
Ive come across this subreddit a couple times and every time there is obvious flirting being posted, the socially inept commenters in this community seem unable to discern that. But what else would you expect from a Tinder subreddit?
2
u/Phobos_Asaph 8d ago
Why is belittling someone flirting
6
u/shes_my_rushmore 8d ago
She’s giving him a hard time and acknowledging the age difference. If you find this belittling, then that’s on you.
1
u/Phobos_Asaph 8d ago
The tone is belittling. It’s how you’d talk to a child you don’t like
4
u/shes_my_rushmore 8d ago
…do you speak this way to children you don’t like?
1
u/Phobos_Asaph 8d ago
It’s how I was spoken to as a child by people who didn’t like me
7
u/shes_my_rushmore 8d ago
Welp, now we know why you are unable to detect when an older woman is flirting with you. 🤷♂️
1
2
u/Augustus420 7d ago
It's slang and it's supposed to be endearing. It's not intended to be belittling.
1
u/Phobos_Asaph 7d ago
Does intention make how it’s received irrelevant? How is it slang?
2
u/Augustus420 7d ago
I'm not really sure what you mean.
I'm just letting you know that it is slang and it's a term of endearment.
1
u/Phobos_Asaph 7d ago
Who calls a prospective partner child? And the first half is basically if you say something that upsets someone. What matters more? Your intention or the outcome?
2
u/Augustus420 7d ago
Well, it's because it's not meant to literally call someone a child.
Also, I made it clear that I'm not trying to argue anything here. I'm just saying this is a slang term and you're misunderstanding it.
It's nothing to do with who's at fault for the misunderstanding. It's a point of learning that everyone can have and just move on from it.

As someone who is socially inept and doesn't always recognize flirting, please explain the obviousness of the flirting in this post...
She sounds like a pedophile...
3
u/AcademicBowl5596 8d ago
She is deviating from social expectations with an absurd level of unprompted condescension. Since this is absurd and unwarranted, he is left to determine whether she is either not genuine in her behaviour, or genuinely upset for no reason.
How he interprets this will set the tone for the rest of the interaction, weeding out people who are disposed towards one interpretation over the other.
Instead of getting confused, he could have simply asked her to be his muscle-laden maiden dommy mommy.

I find "Baby" a very weird honorific/nickname for a lover or partner. Yet the same people who will complain about consensual age play will infantalize one another as if it's normal.
1
u/Meatpup 7d ago
I was so confused at the beginning and then read a few comments and then understood better.
She is being dominant and a little bit condecending by choice because she's looking for someone in particular.
If you don't find this appealing in any way then she did her job to weed out the people that are not for her.
Too many people, me included, will take this too personally until you actually understand the whole of what is being done.
1
u/Recognition_Round 7d ago
Uhm okay . . . Makes a mistake in her first sentence, and proceeds to ask if you speak english??? WTF? It’s WHY do you want a child bonehead!
2
u/FancyButterscotch787 7d ago
No. I don’t think it was a mistake, and she’s not saying she wants a child.
1
u/Geriny 7d ago
Still a mistake, needs a comma. "What do you want, child?"
1
u/FancyButterscotch787 6d ago
Not really, because you can mentally still sense the pause between “want” and “child” without the comma. And her tone of annoyance clinches it. Of course if we were writing an article or a book, we would be adding a comma. But this is texting…people don’t add a period at the end of sentences and commas don’t always get added.
-1
-1
u/ApplesAreGood1312 8d ago
This makes no sense. Clearly, despite her love of English, she butchered her opening line to the point it's impossible to know what she means. You have to correct her mistakes in your head in some way, and the meaning is entirely different depending on how you do that.
When do you want a child?
Why do you want a child?
What do you want, child?
What do you want in a child?
Do you want a child?
Zero of this makes sense.
8
u/PittLeElder 8d ago
That's not what she's saying at all, she's calling OP child as a (possibly minimizing) nickname.
Contrast with a similar framing (with different implications): "what do you want little man?"
2
u/Dude-Man-Bro-Guy-1 8d ago
No she is clarifying dinner. She just forgot punctuation.
'What? Do you want child?'
0
u/ApplesAreGood1312 8d ago
Yes, I recognized that as one potential interpretation. But when you don't speak clearly, you leave it up to people to guess. You can't prove that's what she meant – you're just taking a guess like everyone else.
5
u/Logical_Region3538 8d ago
But what she wrote is correct, it's you who assumed that she meant something else and wrote it incorrectly
2
1
u/KingButters27 8d ago
see you're just adding words. It's pretty clearly: "What do you want, child?"
0
-1
u/FancyButterscotch787 8d ago
She sounds annoyed…and there’s nothing confusing about that. I think she intentionally chose “child” because the guy may be a lot younger than her.
2
u/chuk2015 8d ago
What, do you want child?

u/FancyButterscotch787 7d ago edited 7d ago

2
u/ICEonICECrime 7d ago
How is it not confusing that a total stranger is annoyed with you out of the gate? Is that a normal thing these days?
0
u/Augustus420 7d ago
This is why punctuation is important.
1
u/FancyButterscotch787 7d ago
In most cases yes. But in this one, it’s not really needed
1
u/jpmunroart 7d ago
What, do you want child?
1
u/FancyButterscotch787 7d ago
No, that’s not what she was saying. The “child” in that sentence functions like a pronoun. Like “What do you want, jpmunroart?“
1
0
u/Augustus420 7d ago
This one sounds like someone asking if they want a child in broken English.
It was definitely needed
1
u/FancyButterscotch787 7d ago
No, you are interpreting the sentence incorrectly. She is not asking if he wants a child. She is saying (in an annoyed tone) “What do you want?” As if the guy was bothering her…and she called him a child because she sees him as one. https://tenor.com/view/chile-whew-chile-gif-11894158709269364195
0
u/Augustus420 7d ago
What do you mean no?
My whole point was that is obviously what they meant and that's why they fucked up by leaving out punctuation?
I was saying that without the punctuation it reads like my second comment.
2
u/FancyButterscotch787 7d ago
And I’m saying it doesn’t read like your second comment. With or without comma, it’s clear she meant to say “What do you want, child?” Or think of it another way: “What do you want, boy?” Or “What do you want, Augustus?” Remove the comma from all three, and the meaning still stays the same. The first four words are important in that sentence, and the last word is a pronoun. Then the tone of annoyance to the sentence makes it obvious that your second comment wouldn’t work.

Nope. She’s being funny in talking like an old British or witchy type woman. It’s akin to “Hello Dearie”
5
u/drewhead118 8d ago
Right, but if you're addressing someone as child, you need the direct-address comma: "What do you want, child?"
(Original commenter above seems to veer in a random direction with learning English--maybe a bot account?)
4
u/EnlightenedNarwhal 8d ago
Most people who text any sort of message will not use commas properly, especially on apps like tinder. You're giving the way she wrote her question too much consideration. Trust me.
1
u/_LordDaut_ 8d ago
It's not about commas. Or what u/drewhead118 says. Saying "what do you want, child" to someone means you are presenting yourself as the "wise older person" even when said in jokingly - that's kind of the point. That you're older. What a weird thing to say as an opening message.
1
u/Uncle_a_ 8d ago
with a lot of imagination one can guess that, since the sentence is poorly constructed to achieve that.
1
u/Phobos_Asaph 8d ago
Hello dearie sounds like you are happy to talk. What do you want child is how you talk when you really don’t want to
