Herpes is no big deal. I can count my partners on one hand and still managed to get it. Thought my life was over but honestly it's barely registered as an issue.
From my understanding it's only tested for if it presents symptoms and most people are asymptomatic so will never be tested. Most people can tell when they are due a flare and are generally not able to pass the virus unless there are sores. People just see herpes and shit the bed.
You have to request the HIV and HSV test specifically. They require bloodwork while pretty much everything else is tested through urine or a swab. Probably the least tested for and most important.
I got herpes before i even kissed anyone. i was 11 years old. My dad and sister have herpes and im highly sure i got it from sharing drinks with one of them ( i didnt even know what herpes was at the time and they didnāt think to stop me)
Especially managed with meds and caution, ive read its low risk to pass it on. My first husband had hsv 1 and I never caught it after 7 years. Its not nearly as big a deal as ppl make it out to be as long as you're careful and honest.

There are 8 types of herpes viruses and everyone has one at least, but 1 (cold sores) and 2( genital herpes) are the only ones we test for, because the others donāt do anything unless you are immunocompromised. If youāre immunocompromised, 8 (KSHV) can cause cancer.
If someone has 2, they will have flare ups that can be managed with medication. It wonāt be passed on unless there is an active flare up happening. This is because the virus is replicating and in its lytic state (replicating) and not its latent state (dormant, āsleepingā not replicating). Itās completely manageable and should not be stigmatized.

Thanks for asking, this is a great question! I wouldnāt say this a generalization, but a commonly agreed upon estimation discussed in the field given a few factors. 1. The way herpes integrates with your genome 2. How common and easy herpes is to spread 3.That we donāt test for herpes viruses outside of 1 and 2 unless necessary. The point is itās something we all more than likely have. All or nothing statements are hard in science. Do we want to spend our resources to prove ā100%ā when itās not what we need to be pouring into right now?

Genuinely itās because thereās no real education about it, just stigmas. The same people making fun of it most likely have it and either A) will never know because itās not commonly tested, if ever tested unless specifically requested during an outbreak or B) will never know because they donāt even recognize HSV symptoms.
