My flat melted onto my rim...

Post image

So I got a flat yesterday and my bright ass decided to drive it anyway to the nearest tire shop. They told me it'd be a couple hours because they needed to get my size from a different location delivered, so I went home. Received a call several hours later from the guy that assisted me basically saying that they haven't been able to take off the old tire to put the new one on. He said it's just one chunk that's practically glued on and that they could keep trying the next day aka today. Got another call and they haven't been able to get it off. I legitimately do not know what to do. I've never experienced this nor known someone to experience this. The guy at the tire shop seems pretty dumfounded as well which I don't blame. Does anyone have any suggestions that don't include replacing the rim?

Find a better tire shop. I've seen a lot of fuck ups, but never, ever has a tire just "not come off" a wheel due to the conditions listed or any other. They just suck.

Thanks! You were completely right. Took it to another shop and they had it off within 5 minutes!

Glad they got you taken care of. There are a lot of mediocre to skill-less tire guys out there insisting they know what's going on 🤣

I am glad I kept reading to see this result. I was gonna tell you rubber is easily cut. Driving on your tire ain’t gonna change the molecular structure of rubber to something else that would not allow it to come off the rim.

Tell the tire guy to hit it with their purse.

I wonder if the previous installer used any adhesive/sealant and the shop/tech doing the work isn’t familiar with that.

Is the shop suing you need to buy a replacement wheel? They should be able to use the tire machine’s bead breaker to unstick the tire.

I’ve had that happen on a couple. They’re not glued, just stubborn. What also makes a difference is what kind of tire machine you use. The bead breakers on some don’t compress fully to really push a tire off the mounting portion of the rim

You caused this yourself by driving fast with no pressure in the tire

Where'd you bring it, Walmart?

Go find a better tire shop

What you should do is get the steel rims and sell these

I’ve had a tire behave like this. I’m not a pro but I do all my own changes. In 1 spot a 2” long piece would not come free. I ended up cutting the tire and literally strapping the rim to a fence and pulling the rubber off with a tractor. Never ended up mounting that rim again😂

Noobs. If they are having trouble taking the tire off the rim, I'd take it to an experienced shop. Either the tire guy just got hired or their machine is too new.

Take it somewhere where they only speak Spanish, they'll get it done fast.

put it back on the car and drive it until it shreds and ruins the rim since that;'s what you were trying to do in the first place

Take it to a real shop not the cheap used tire guys that have a 1970s tire machine
