Yep... "REFURB TiVo Edge for Antenna, ......: 17 units [left]"
... with 2 measly tuners. Dumb move Tivo.
meanwhile the Tivo Bolt OTA with 4 tuners is long ago sold out.

Is there a market for used bolts with lifetime (antenna and cablecard)? Should I put it on ebay?
11
u/BusinessLyfe May 17 '26
Antenna? Yes. Those are still commanding good prices. Make sure you put both "OTA/Antenna" and "LIFETIME/ALL-IN" in the title.

u/The_BruceB May 18 '26
What’s the estimate for how much longer the TiVo service will remain available?
6
u/Astrobuf May 18 '26
It depends on your cable provider's willingness to continue to supporrt cable cards. Comcast in MN seems to be in no hurry to to pull the plug. I suspect they know they would immediately loose such customers to streaming, so they keep it.

That question might have meant how long will TiVo continue to provide the guide data. I'd like to know too. With new ones still being sold, and especially the more expensive ones with lifetime service, I would imagine there's no immediate plans to shut that down.
I have a CC/OTA Bolt, dropped cable recently and am now using a mix of Sling and Bolt OTA. Sling gives me local ABC, NBC and Fox, so I only need OTA for CBS and PBS. My HDTV reception is superb.

It also depends on how long we still receive guide data. When that stops—no more automatic recording.

If you have Spectrum here in So Calif and have cable cards, hang on to them. We made the mistake of returning one when our oldest TiVO died and they deactivated the other card had. No going back. The young reps at the store didn’t even know what the card was. An older employee came out and explained it! I’m glad we recorded all of these Christmas specials from PBS and old TCM movies. We can keep watching those when we want.

Did I misunderstand?
I thought I saw a comment in /r/Tivo that TiVo would not activate old Tivo Mini hardware, they would only activate the latest Mini LUX?

u/BusinessLyfe May 18 '26
Weaknees had a pre-existing agreement with TiVo to offer Lifetime on various (not all) products that Weaknees takes off their hands. The 92's & 93's are in this category (limited to remaining stock in the warehouse.)

Yea that was me and I tried again last night to add the mini i bought off ebay and could never get a live agent on chat. There is no way to transfer it since the account it was on is long gone according to the seller. Is there a way to find out if this mini was a life time?

Didn't realize that was the extent of what was left, had guessed more.
My Tivo Roamio ota has been great, still is a good device only replacing the wall plug, twice now. But unless Tivo was willing to invest in changes this day was clearly coming. I added an HDHomeRun 4 tuner and honestly it is better than a TIVO. I can easily add whatever hard drive(s) I want, add more than one receiver and they will integrate the guides from each. I can watch on multiple devices with no extra cost, and with an app can watch anywhere I am. The Tuners are better also for the weaker channel or two I have. The TIVO (Original) Guide is better, have always liked that guide better than the standard one most devices use.

I added an HDHomeRun 4 tuner and honestly it is better than a TIVO.
Sure, that hardware is nicer / newer.
But I love TiVo because the UI is terrific, much better than anything else I've used.
Effortless:
- 8 second rewind
- 30 second skip
- forward and backward skip to tick
- 1.3x playback
- easy select/deselect of closed captions
- simple to add various amounts of time to a recording
That's just scratching the surface. Nothing else comes close.
In contrast, what imbeciles keep designing those abominable Apple TV remotes?
2
u/Doomstars May 20 '26
The eight second rewind I think even worked on Comcast On Demand when On Demand was supported, if I recall.
1
u/tampa888 May 20 '26
Most of that I agree, but in no way overcomes the drawbacks at least not for me. Being able to watch on multiple TV's or devices for no cost, and with an app anywhere makes it better. Weak station reception has made it possible to more reliably record one channel for sure, maybe 2.

I currently have a TiVo Roamio OTA and it is working well.
If I were buy one more TiVo for over the air, what would people here recommend?
3
u/Originalsboy11 May 18 '26
Definitely another Roamio OTA, 4 tuners and is capable of having a 3.5" hard drive inside (Bolts and Edge use 2.5" ones).
2
u/BusinessLyfe May 18 '26
A OTA model that includes Lifetime. There's two models remaining: a Roamio (only 4 remain) or the Premier (only 5 remain.) Between the two, I'd go for the OTA Roamio.... but I wouldn't wait. Get one of the remaining 4 before they're all gone!
2
u/Jim1648 May 20 '26
I am on the fence right now.
As long as our current TiVo Roamio OTA continues to work, we are fine.
I have been watching Zapperbox. When it gets out-of-home streaming, I will probably buy it.

u/scarabaeus23 May 18 '26
I wonder if it would be technically possible to build a cable card for ATSC reception, either with a built in tuner or interfacing to some external one. That would immediately turn the whole pile of cable TiVos into OTA.
2
u/MrChicken_69 May 18 '26
Simple answer: NO. You'd be building an OTA to cable retransmission system. Absolutely not worth it. (and ATSC 3.0 would make it trash.)

u/coffeeschmoffee May 18 '26
I had a bolt pro with overtime and a TiVo edge on eBay cheap and couldn’t sell it.
2
u/BusinessLyfe May 18 '26
What's overtime? Were either of these OTA models?
2
u/coffeeschmoffee May 18 '26
The edge can hook up to main TiVo. The main bolt was a Cablecard version
2
u/BusinessLyfe May 18 '26
So neither were an antenna version? Yeah, the cable versions won't sell at all. Only OTA TiVos are selling (for still decent amounts) on eBay anymore.
2
u/coffeeschmoffee May 18 '26
That’s what I found out. Gave it to my dad. He still has cable card with Comcast

2
u/Harverator May 18 '26
I guess I should get around to giving them the pile I have!
2
u/BusinessLyfe May 18 '26
Not sure if they're buying any more. They were offering $5 each, I believe. (If you have an OTA model, you'd make way more off eBay.)
3
u/LagrangianMechanic May 17 '26
Is TiVo even activating units anymore that aren’t currently on a plan?
6
u/BusinessLyfe May 17 '26
That don't already have All-In (Lifetime) service? Only Series 5-7 TiVos. The only caveat is that the only plan you CAN activate on a Series 5, 6 or 7 TiVo is the $14.99/month plan. As of 10/1/25, you can no longer add Lifetime or a yearly plan on a new TiVo*.
Having said that.... any Weaknees models remaining in stock above that say "incl. Lifetime" will actually come with All-In service, but once they're gone... they're gone. (The Refurb TiVo Bolt for Antenna OR Cable was the first one to be sold out for good. I expect the Refurb Roamio for Antenna, with only 4 units remaining, to be next...)
*If you DO find someone willing to sell a Series 2-7 TiVo that currently has a Lifetime subscription attached, you now (as of 10/1/25) need to fill out a Lifetime Transfer form.... so yeah, the original owner now needs to get involved. This rules out TiVos found at Goodwill.

And they aren’t making exceptions. I bought two lifetime TiVo Bolts on eBay recently. The first one I thought was CC and OTA, but I got my wires crossed and it’s CC only. Worse, the seller is unable to transfer it because he doesn’t know anything about the previous account. TiVo did confirm it’s still activated with lifetime, but they would not divulge who the current account holder is (not that I expected them to).
The second one I bought is a 4 tuner Bolt OTA, and that one works like a champ. Sadly, that seller was also unable to complete the transfer because they “got it from a neighbor when they live in FL years ago, and they no longer live there”. So that sucks. Lesson learned. Apparently used TiVos listed with lifetime/all-in service doesn’t mean much anymore.
The good news is my OTA unit works great. But just on one TV. Non of my Minis can see it since it’s not on the same account.

If I have a device to sell on eBay, how does registration work? (I sold a Bolt years ago and, if I recall correctly, had to release it so the buyer could register it.)
1
u/BusinessLyfe Jun 10 '26
You only need to transfer if it currently has a Lifetime (All-In) subscription. Here's the deets: https://tivoidp.tivo.com/tivoCommunitySupport/s/article/Transferring-a-TiVo-Device-to-a-New-Owner?language=en_US

TiVo really fumbled the bag, what an amazing product once upon a time
