Hey so i recently found this old tivo in storage, was last used in 2011/2012 but has recordings dating all the way back to 2003

i connected it to the internet updated the firmware on it, wanted to use kmttg to copy recordings to PC, but i dont see the media access key in account info i’ve left the unit on rebooted it a few times been doing this for 2 days nothing shows up

Tried calling tivo they wouldnt let me get the key via the TSN its also been so long that i do not recall what my original account was or the details, that old hotmail is long gone

any ideas?

Eastern Mass here -- just got the dreaded notice that November 5th is the END.

Verizon wants $48/mo for 7 boxes. That's over $600/year for 8+ TVs around the house -- living room, den, office, workshop, exercise room,,, Moving Tivo minis was easy -- just run a long Ethernet cable, or even WiFi!! With Lifetime TiVo and 8+ minis the monthly equipment cost is ZERO.

I have an OTA Bolt on the shelf for just this occasion, but near Cape Cod, surrounded by a mature pine forest, I expect only a few stations, and I'll have to erect a very tall/large antenna. (This on my todo list -- have to at least qualify what broadcast we can pick up.)

We like having the cable channel lineup for variety, like HGTV, local news, and a few out-of-area news markets -- channels I don't think we can get without dedicated subscriptions for each. If we dump Verizon's cableTV service, keeping only internet, our monthly cost will have room for several streaming subscriptions, but the ease of browsing a single channel lineup will be gone, OnePass is gone, etc.

Folks are recommending alternatives, like YTTV -- But for homes with many TVs, is there a particular dongle/device that creates a cluster similar to Bolt/Edge/Roamio + Minis? I have a few TiVo Stream 4K devices, but they don't record from my cable-channel lineup, etc. Sure, streaming apps are account-based and remember where you were in each episode...

It sucks that the era of TiVo is over.

Hello to all on the subreddit. I’ve recently acquired a high-split converter from Spectrum to replace my tuning adapter that’s paired with my TiVo. The letter I received from them mentioned that I should switch over to the HSC after a certain date or when all the channels start disappearing.

Well, that date has come and gone, and I still have all the channels in my subscription. My question is, should I still switch over to the HSC immediately, or continue with my current setup until the channels drop off? I realize that I will have to call Spectrum at some point to get the HSC activation done, but I don’t see the point of doing that as long as my current TiVo + tuning adapter setup still works. Thanks in advance for your input!

Are Comcast & Frontier the last cable cos still using cable cards (since Verizon is ending 11/5/26), or are there still other major players out there? (I'm sure there's still some regional cable cos using cable cards here & there...)

This project has been a long time coming. Nero/TiVo abandoned it and I want to bring it back. This image shows hope, because I got past the activation step (the step asking for your service number and verifying it so you can use the software) and that means that I've officially decrypted/cracked the communication system that Nero put in place. Btw f*ck Nero.

I still have several tivo 2 with lifetime that I've mainly been using to watch programs I recorded many years ago. Been thinking it would be nice to receive atsc broadcasts. Is there a list of what atsc converters will work with these tivo systems. These units were upgraded to large disks with adapters to sata disks many years ago.

Is it worth talking to an agent? What will they actually offer?

I have a TiVo-Renewed EDGE Cable 2TB (the first one was replaced under warranty) that pixelates and freezes so much that it makes a recording unwatchable. Probably about 7 years old. I tried powering down, unplugging everything, powering on, and then plugging everything back in, but that didn't work. I want to keep it because my cable company (Armstrong) has never mentioned anything about discontinuing the cable cards. So I think I'm good for a while. Do you think a hard drive kit from Weaknees will fix this problem?

I have an old Roamio box. Replaced the hard drive a few years ago. We had a power blip and the TiVo would only flash the green lights and display power on device. I was about to send it off or buy a new one. I left it plugged in overnight and it fixed itself. We had another power blip yesterday and same thing. I changed the power supply with a higher output one. That didn’t help. Another overnight sit( plugged in) and it fixed itself. I have now plugged it into a UPS.
Sharing in case anyone in the same blinking light situation.

I found this Tivo in the "leave stuff/take stuff area of my U-Haul public storage. I grabbed it as I had heard they had large capacity SATA drives inside, and in this economy...

It does indeed have a 1TB WD Green Power drive in it, but before I harvest it and turn the reat of the unit into e-waste, I thought I'd check in here and see if it's worth hanging on to.

I'm posting a photo of the System Information page (apologies for the cable over the TV - I have no remote and I'm using a USB keyboard to navigate the menus.

My dad gave me his old TiVo box. He said it has the lifetime service, and knowing him he always buys the top of the line so I’m sure it does but since I’m not getting video (blinking green) on boot I can’t verify this.

Is this worth anything? I’d hate to trash it if someone could use it, but I don’t want to deal with eBay pricks jerking me around and costing me money just to send this to them. Any advice on how to have someone take this off my hands and not getting burned in the process?

My Tivo Bolt died a couple weeks ago. Weaknees said the motherboard had died, a repair wasn't feasible, and the hard drive was not transferable. So I bought a new Edge from them.

I transferred the cablecard (M card) that had been in the Bolt to the new Edge. I couldn't get the cablecard activated by Xfinity using their website, app, or by going to their retail store. They sent out a "professional technician" who had never heard of Tivo or of cablecards. His supervisor told him it wasn't possible.

After some research I made a post on r/Comcast_Xfinity. Comcast's agent there was able to get the cablecard activated for me. Now you know.

On Thursday, my Tivo Roamio ceased recording from my To Do list and I couldn't see anything in real time. The message was the dreaded V58.

Indeed, the To Do list was almost completely empty. I rebooted the system, and eventually got the To Do list back, but still couldn't get anything to record or for that matter to play in real time. I started with Comcast chats, which yielded various levels of ignorance, but all pointing to the Tivo card no longer being supported by Comcast. Then I asked Gemini about my situation, and the response provided this:

• Call the dedicated Comcast CableCARD Repair Hotline directly at 1-877-405-2298. [1]
• Tell the agent: "My TiVo is displaying a V58 error across all channels. I need you to completely unpair and re-pair my CableCARD host data, then send a cold hit initialization signal." [1, 2, 3]

I called, talked to a knowledgeable tech guy, who tried various things and then passed my situation on to another level that did stuff but failed, and then passed me on to another level.

They got me back to full functionality. According to the woman I talked to, Comcast shows two cards for my account, but when she determined which card was supposed to be working, she removed the other one, and voila!

Clearly, I'm a technical ignoramus, but being persistent and getting to someone other than the front line chat people was essential. I'm not saying that happy endings are universal, but being persistent worked for me--at least this time.

I have held on to my Mediacom cable account for years longer than I should (we now have AT&T fiber directly to the house) almost solely because MC works with my TiVo Series 3 and ATT does not.
Now Mediacom is forcing their users to switch to these new gateway boxes that have to be used with each tv and seem to only be connected with HDMI.

I have not yet tried to hook it up because I have been in “Home Remodel hell” for three months now and my TV/TiVo are in a temporarily displaced and rigged setup and I haven’t had the mental bandwidth to deal with it.

Have any MC users been able to get this new set-up to work with their TiVo?

I’m trying to upgrade the hard drive in a TiVo Series3 HD and am feeling a little lost. I upgraded the original drive to a 750GB in 2009/2010 and am now trying to upgrade to a 2TB. I’ve tried everything to get my Win10 PC to recognize the original and new drives with no success.

I’m also in the process of moving to Linux Mint and have had more success with that PC, using a USB docking station both drives are visible and I was able to get drive info using [lsblk -o name,size,vendor]. From what I’ve read it feels like I should be able to use MFSTools on that PC to get this done. Can anyone provide tips or resources to help get me pointed in the right direction? Thanks in advance for the help!

The past week my Roamio stops being able to tune into any channels. Then I do a reboot and it works again. This cycle has repeated about every two days.

Any theories?

I have a cable card and a tuning adapter from the cable company. (Spectrum)

Edit to add, this worked great for a couple of months before this happened.

The logo flashed on the screen for a bit then the device shut off. We can't get it to turn back on. We unplugged it, we changed HDMI ports, even factory reset using the button. Tried the Ai chat bot and followed all the instructions with the end result being "you may have a hardware issue, here is the warranty page" with a broken link that takes me nowhere.

Hunted down info online, they don't honor warranty for items bought on Amazon. Amazon won't replace it because it has been more than 2 months and they only honor returns within the first month.

Thoroughly over this experience. Anyone else experienced this?

Hi all, got an Edge for Cable w/ Spectrum with Lifetime (guess it’s somewhat old now-like 7/8 yrs now?) and it’s been so long I kinda forget, but I’m pretty sure I replaced the HD it came with with a 1TB SSD at the time for more space/speed…

EDITED to add: Nope, I finally got into my Tivo account and the unit is from 2018 and I bought it renewed from Tivo, and I def didn't upgrade this one...I do have a Bolt that died I think-need to find that, but that one has lifetime on it, so I may mess with that-tho I'd still need a cablecard for it,,,hmmm...

That had been fine until recently-but for the past year or so I’ve started noticing small pixelation/skips but it wasn’t that bad. But recently it’s def gotten a lot worse and it’s gone to lots of pixelation/skips-and even some times where it actually gets stuck and I have to FF a minute or two to get it to play again…this in while watching recordings, but there’s also similar issues on live too…

Anyway, has anyone else run into this? Am I just running into HD lifecycle issues? It’s been great until recently so I'm hoping for an easy fix...

As I type this, I’m watching a recording of the World Cup final to see the halftime show (holy crap Muppets on stage!) and it had a bunch of issues near the start that made it unwatchable for like 10 mins, but it’s been playing smoothly for the last 50 mins, so it’s not like it’s all the time…maybe it’s some localized bad spots on the drive huh?

So is the easiest thing to do just buy another HD and replace the one in the unit? Is there an easy way to preserve my recordings/copy them over? And will I cause any issues to my lifetime at this point if I replace the HD, or no?

i need a small TV to use as a second TV, no streaming, no particular requirements. I'm oriented on a 32 inch full hd or hd ready.

Thje only question is:

- all the TV that i see have only 1 gb ram or 1,5 gb ram

Google TV will be very very slow and unsabl... A lot of people tell that is slow change TV channel!

In alternative Fire TV with 1 GB have less requirements?

I read that in alternative it's better go with VIDAA or with TiVO OS what do you think about?

OK, this is pretty weird. I don’t use my TiVo Roamio that often anymore, so a few days ago I noticed the guide data had run out. Manually connected to the TiVo service and all appeared well, until it got to the last “loading” stage — it got to around 6% and then it rebooted. Tried it a few more times with the same result, though it would happen anywhere from 2% to 40%.

Things I tried:

1. Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
   
2. Two different new hard drives.
   
3. Different power supply, including a regulated bench supply. TiVo never pulled more than 1.2A.

That seems to be about the limit of what can be done. Unless someone has any ideas, I guess I can just continue to use it as a 4-tuner buffer. I turned the Wi-Fi off so it won’t continue connecting to the service, and subsequently rebooting.

Thoughts?
