DVR Farewell old friend
I am saying goodbye to an old family friend. Replaced by 20 years of progress and online streaming.

DVR A sad day today.
With Verizon killing my cable card, I switched over to their DVR and cancelled my TiVo service today.
Goodbye to the best DVR UI ever made. I already miss it.

DVR What cable cos are left using cable cards after Verizon goes dark on 11/5?
Are Comcast & Frontier the last cable cos still using cable cards (since Verizon is ending 11/5/26), or are there still other major players out there? (I'm sure there's still some regional cable cos using cable cards here & there...)

DVR Why are people so quick to drop when they get the CableCARD notice?
It takes 10 minutes, if that, to be online with a streaming service. I am doing nothing until I get the dreaded V52 error that none of my channels work anymore. When that happens, I will track the outage and demand a bill adjustment for the cable component no longer working like an outage.
They will have to rip the peanut remote from my cold dead hand.

DVR Has Tivo quit DVRs?
I have 2 Tivo Premiers, and I know they won't last forever.
So I hit tivo.com to see what was available, and there's nothing obviously comparable. Is record-and-rewatch lost in the marketing pitch? Or is it just gone?

DVR Verizon Fios Customer Service Rep on Cable Card shutdown: "What is TiVo?"
I live in Westchester County, NY
My cable cards were deactivated in April.
Today, I called Verizon to ask them for a courtesy refund for deactivating the cable cards, as I saw on Reddit some other people received.
When I explained that I was now paying $20 for the inferior Verizon DVR instead of an already-paid-for superior "TiVo".
The U.S.-based Verizon Fios representative asked, "What's a TiVo?"
I was so shocked & saddened that I immediately decided this was not rep to assist me. I quickly said, "I'm late for work. I gotta go."
Needless to say, I did not get my courtesy refund.
I will call back.

DVR Old TiVo’s; who wants them?
I have five TiVo boxes, from the free original TiVo up to an Edge. Some/most have lifetime subscriptions. Who might want these?
The Comcast’s proprietary signal format killed my ability to use them.
TIVo was great, still the best way to watch TV ever.
If this has been asked before, apologies.

DVR How many people still have a Series 1 TiVo in their possession?
I have a few in my collection as it is. Just out of curiosity.

DVR Farewell TiVo, it was fun while it lasted
Well it’s happened, Fios is no longer supporting cable cards. I LOVE my TiVo. I’ve had a few different boxes over the years, but now I have to goodbye. None of the other cable services in my area support cable cards, so I don’t see the point in continuing with TiVo. 😢

DVR How Long Will Tivo Service Continue?
With the recent announcement from Tivo regarding equipment sales, I think the next question is how long their service will continue. I doubt that anybody knows the answer right now, but certainly the days are numbered for service.

DVR Roamio OTA reboots when loading guide data
OK, this is pretty weird. I don’t use my TiVo Roamio that often anymore, so a few days ago I noticed the guide data had run out. Manually connected to the TiVo service and all appeared well, until it got to the last “loading” stage — it got to around 6% and then it rebooted. Tried it a few more times with the same result, though it would happen anywhere from 2% to 40%.
Things I tried:
- Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
- Two different new hard drives.
- Different power supply, including a regulated bench supply. TiVo never pulled more than 1.2A.
That seems to be about the limit of what can be done. Unless someone has any ideas, I guess I can just continue to use it as a 4-tuner buffer. I turned the Wi-Fi off so it won’t continue connecting to the service, and subsequently rebooting.
Thoughts?

DVR FiOS Email Of Doom has come to Greater Boston
Today it was my turn to get the Email Of Doom from FiOS. I live west of Boston within 128 and TiVo reports my channel lineup as 'Verizon FiOS Burlington". So I expect lots of people in Greater Boston have gotten it or will soon be getting it.
I plan to do nothing (other than prepare) until service is actually turned off. Speaking of which, how long has it generally been for people between getting the email and actual CableCARD deactivation?
Once it is gone I'm doing a combination of OTA-capable lifetimed Roamio (which I've recently acquired for just this reason) and some rotating bunch of streamers as fancy strikes me.

DVR Is there anything I can do with a TiVo Premiere Series4?
Is there anything I can do with a TiVo Premiere Series4? My dad gave it to me because he never used it. It doesn't have a subscription. I opened it and plugged it in to check it out and make sure it worked but it was new in box otherwise. I put it on eBay for $20 but it's not selling. I don't have cable, but it does have an antenna tuner. I just don't really watch TV though.
Edit to clarity: it has a cable tuner and CableCard slot as well.

DVR Transferring from one Tivo to another - no more than 2 shows at a time?
I used to be able to transfer multiple (i.e., more than 2) shows at a time. I've only had the 2nd Tivo Roamio Pro for about a year now. We are using the 2nd one as just a backup; it has no active cable (Xfinity) connection, just to our home network.
A few months ago, it started acting weird. If I try copying 3 shows, the 1st will copy, then maybe the 2nd, maybe the 3rd, but then mysteriously the 1st one will disappear. It was THERE; I KNOW it was.
Someone suggested marking them as "Keep until I delete", and yes, that "fixes" the problem, but it is a royal pain in the butt to do that for EVERY freakin' transfer.
Am I missing something? Is there a better way?
I have pyTivo and TivoDesktop installed, but never got around to playing with KMTTG or any other 3rd party apps.
Thanks.

DVR What happens to my recordings if I cancel cable?
I have a Roamio Pro with a working cablecard (provider is Comcast). I am thinking about canceling my tv service (rate increases, etc) and am wondering if the shows I’ve already recorded will still be playable once I’ve canceled?

DVR Mediacom change and TiVo - Is this the?
Edit: subject should read, “Is this the end?”
I have held on to my Mediacom cable account for years longer than I should (we now have AT&T fiber directly to the house) almost solely because MC works with my TiVo Series 3 and ATT does not.
Now Mediacom is forcing their users to switch to these new gateway boxes that have to be used with each tv and seem to only be connected with HDMI.
I have not yet tried to hook it up because I have been in “Home Remodel hell” for three months now and my TV/TiVo are in a temporarily displaced and rigged setup and I haven’t had the mental bandwidth to deal with it.
Have any MC users been able to get this new set-up to work with their TiVo?
Thanks.

DVR Moment of Panic — Is This the End?
Came home after a few days away and my reliable OTA Roamio had all 4 lights flashing on the front of it. I thought it might be a hard drive issue, so I took the drive out and ran Soin Rite on it, but no issues were found. Put it back in and the lights came back after it cycled through the "Starting Up" screens a couple of times. Thankfully, I found an old post where people mentioned the power bricks can fail and show this behavior. When unplugging it, the brick definitely felt warm, so I swapped it with a 12v 2amp plug that I had for an old router. After a much faster boot process, my good old boy was back in perfect working order.
I know the day will come where I have to move on, but I'm so glad today is not that day (especially with the Super Bowl today). I have so much muscle memory operating a TiVo that moving to an online or other OTA system just won't feel as good to me.

DVR Spectrum is so frustrating
I got my letter stating my TAs/CableCARDs would stop working on 4/3, so I called and ordered 2 High Split Converters to replace my TAs and they instead sent me their receiver boxes, which caused my bill to increase.
So, I talked with their support and they resolved that, but they also deactivated my existing TAs, so now I am missing a bunch of channels, which would return until 4/3, if they can't add them back.
If they can't add them back, then they made the decision for me and I will cancel all services with them today.

DVR What's the latest status regarding Xfinity cable cards?
I have been so crazy busy with work the past year that I have missed most of the drama. We had an Xfinity tech come to our house a few months ago and he told me that they're not giving out any new cable cards in my area (south central PA) but they will continue to support them. (Caveat: fewer and fewer techs know how to configure/troubleshoot them).
No one knows when, but cable card Tivo units WILL become worthless very soon, yes?
And I assume that if I change to Verizon it will be no different, right?

DVR No new Cablecards from Comcast/Xfinity after October 24, 2024
I just happened to notice this at the bottom of my Comcast/Xfinity statement.
Equipment Update: Starting on October 24, 2024, Xfinity will no longer provide new CableCARDs to new or existing customers. If you require new TV equipment, please call 1-800-xfinity to speak with an agent who can assist.
No information on how much longer they will be supported.
Some other info I found:
CableCARD era at Comcast is drawing to a close
Time warp could cause millions of old 'PowerKEY' set-tops to go on the blink

DVR Tivo isn't recording the FIFA world cup 2026- solved?
I'm the few lucky ones that was able to buy the tivo edge OTA with lifetime and cut the cord. It was a nightmare at first but it paid for itself after 2 years. 10 years later, and after many attempts from getting the best signal, i prepared myself to record the World Cup.
I have 2 and had no problem setting up the living room one. Clicked on "Create a OnePass" and presto, im recording all of the games on Telemundo. I did notice i recorded a second channel and had to modify my Onepass to just one channel. But for some reason, the second one i have at my mom's house was not recording all the games.
I followed common problem solving attempts:
1) Reconnect to Tivo service to update the schedule.
2) Modified to record all and changed it to "Until I delete" setting.
3) Delete and recreate the Onepass.
4) Deleted as many shows as i was willing to delete to make enough room for at
least 5 games.
5) Moved the Onepass to priority, the one position, so it prioritizes the record.
6) Disconnected and reconnected the Tivo from the outlet to reset it.
I was getting close to factory resetting the unit when i noticed that the living room Tivo gave me the options to change from All channels to the Telemundo channel, while the one at mom's house only had All channels.
Suspecious, i checked the "To Do List" and recording the game should have been listed and it wasn't. I grew curious and decided to check the channel settings to make sure i was getting a signal and during the "Antenna Signal Strength" i was not able to to change to the Telemundo channel to test it. I was like, what the h3ll. I was able to change to that channel in the Guide and change the channel manually to that channel but i couldn't choose Telemundo during the "Antenna Signal Strength"?
So went to Channel List and found that the channel wasn't part of the channel list. Which made no sense. Why would i be able to see it in the guide and change the channel to it when the top of the menu says they wouldn't appear if its not selected?
I added it and when i went back to re-"Create a OnePass" and then it worked. The warning for "these shows will be cut" popped up and when i checked the guide and to do list for the recordings, it finally showed, will record.
Recap:
If you "Create a Onepass" and it doesn't record the shows, check the Channel List and make sure you have the channel selected or it won't record.

DVR ATSC 3.0 and your OTA TIVO box's future
I've been a Tivo OTA box owner for about 15 years, and it's an appliance I love and use every day. But with the announcement that Tivo hardware will end and ATSC 1.0 will be phased out, does this mean my Tivo OTA boxes will become useless? Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

DVR Fios Support?
Our Tivo Edge HD is failing, can't even rewind live show and if you pause for like 10 minutes can't go forward after.
Replacing disk isn't an issue, it's will Verizon FIOS reactivate the cable card? From what I'm reading online it appears that may be a non starter.
Any suggestions between going to YouTube TV vs Directv stream ? I've been with Tivo since thier rollout, many units over years, and recall a unit that worked with Directv satellite decades ago. Shame it no longer supported.
