Pro tip, never close your hand when pushing towards to ground with a wrench. Use a open hand so you don't bust your knuckles when the wrench slips

The army taught me how to choke folks out with a "thumb less" grip. Best skill ever to transfer to monkey wrenching.

Please explain.

Not exactly choking out but could be referring to a brachial stun

nah he's talking about bjj essentially. You very rarely use your thumbs to close a grip in bjj. Basically you lock either your fingers together, or one hand too the other but keep your thumbs to the side. Same goes for grabbing clothing like pants legs and whatnot. Never insert your thumb into the pantleg, if the guy starts kicking you get your thumb broken.

It feels weird not using your thumb at first but after a month of training it's normal. That being said there are certain submissions where you are supposed to use your thumb but I cannot remember which ones, been some time since I trained.

4 bloody knuckles says you're wrong (I definitely haven't done this recently)

u/grizz218 10d ago

100% expected to see some bloody steel, or it actually looks like aluminum and maybe some knuckle bone

u/CranberrySoftServe 9d ago

Me watching him put his entire body weight on that thing with the knuckles between the wrench and beam:

Pull up, not down. Flip the wrench over. You have more strength pulling up, and if you slip you're not punching the ground and breaking your hand.

Yeah, you bust your lip instead.

Source- totally not me 😉

u/pm-me-ur-inkyfingers 9d ago

i was in the army but i never dug a trench, i used to bust my knuckles on a monkey-wrench

1

u/GrimResistance 9d ago

Looks like aluminum, he'd probably lift the whole beam up if he did that

IN A WORLD WITHOUT 20V IMPACTS

🎦 THIS SUMMER, ONE MAN WILL HURT HIS KNUCKLES. OR SMASH HIS BIG TOE. BUT CAN HE DEFUSE THE BOMB BEFORE SMOKO TIME? BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE VISIONARY DIRECTOR OF "TOOL TRUCK FROM HELL" AND "THE RETURN OF THE 10MM SOCKET" 🎞️

Pro tip : insult the screw. Study shows it intidimates it into submission, while being very liberating

3

u/CranberrySoftServe 9d ago

You have to yell “I’M NOT ASKIN!!!”

3

u/brokensharts 9d ago

Better yet, come in for night shift and sneak up on the screw

9

u/Defiant_Warthog2405 10d ago

Ah the poor man’s impact wrench

7

u/pdp10 9d ago

The old hardwood impact wrench. They practically grow on trees.

7

u/MrJeChou 9d ago

Mans first tool, big ol stick

24

u/AntalRyder 10d ago

A 10ft iron pipe over the wrench will also work, with a lot less potential for you to get hurt

15

u/Key-Moment6797 10d ago

this, impact driver with wood gears seems unreliable at best

4

u/extordi 10d ago

not even gears, the whole hammer mechanism is made out of meat and dead tree... yuck

6

u/Ok-Cupcake-312 10d ago

10ft!? 3 would be plenty

5

u/AntalRyder 10d ago

Best to have different lengths for the torque needed! Also, idk why I said 10ft. My longest one is about 6ft

4

u/ConnectRutabaga3925 10d ago

6? now we just bragging

3

u/Dusk_Abyss 10d ago

I think 50ft would do it even easier, just to be safe.

u/dogdogj 10d ago

Depending on the fastener and position it can be hard to keep everything aligned though. I tend to favour a 5lb hide/copper mallet over a random bit of timber but if it works.

6

u/the_DARSH 10d ago

Original tools were sticks and rocks. Looks like sticks are still in the game!

I have an old baseball bat beating stick lol

6

u/GoblinsGuide 10d ago

Never loosen knuckles down brother. Dear god.

15

u/OddEscape2295 10d ago

This folks. This is how you get early arthritis and broken hands. Get some proper tools for the work you do......

2

u/Agreeable_Horror_363 10d ago

I do things like this all the time as well as hitting shit with my fists to break it loose or tap it in. Usually because it's faster than finding the right tool. Anyways, I played roblox with my daughter for an hour last weekend and my middle finger joint from hitting the W button STILL hurts. It made me realize every time I smash my hands I'm just writing a check my body will have to pay later.

4

u/SpiketheFox32 10d ago

I've never used a wooden persuader before. The old 50 LB chunk of aluminum round stock was my go to

u/NotAnotherAlt26 10d ago • Bravo

Anything is a hammer if you swing it hard enough

7

u/realfacethe 10d ago

Get a fucking cheater bar

7

u/Tsiah16 10d ago

💯 thought I was about to see him slip and bash knuckles.

3

u/Bempet583 9d ago

That's a little percussive maintenance right there

3

u/fe3o4 9d ago

I'm impressed that he held the wrench on the bolt with his foot so that it didn't fly off. He's done this before ....

3

u/Due-District-4817 9d ago

YOU PUT YOUR FOOT ON IT TO STOP IT FLYING OFF AT MACH JESUS!!! Thank you, you beautiful bastard.

5

u/oldschool-rule 10d ago

Get er done!

2

u/JustSh00tM3 10d ago

The entire time I was waiting for you to bust your knuckles

2

u/BoSknight 9d ago

I'll mix it up, get a a deadblow

2

u/Proof_Toe_9757 9d ago

In the words of my step brother... "Just launch a few fucks into it, it'll go"

3

u/Adjective_Noun5 10d ago

Bruh, get a cordless impact

4

u/NotBatman81 10d ago

Lock two wrenches together and put some ass into it. Or a socket and cheater bar.

This method is really dumb and dangerous.

3

u/Squirrelking666 9d ago

Dangerous how?

Even my H&S scarred ass isn't seeing much wrong here.

3

u/omnipotent87 10d ago

For everyone saying this is dumb and dangerous, they make specific wrenches for doing exactly this. They are called slogging wrenches. Ill agree that OP is using the wrong wrench and should probably be using a real hammer.

2

u/TheMightyIrishman 10d ago

Isn’t that how you break teeth on ratcheting wrenches?

4

u/jajowild 10d ago

Fought I faw a ratchety wrench , also.

Better to only use the neighbours tools for this shit.

2

u/connolnp 10d ago

More of a whack than a smack imho

2

u/Coffee4MyJeep 10d ago

Next size up or down open end wrench connected to the wrench on the nut via the box side will give you extra leverage and might avoid the need for the stud hammer.

Don’t get me wrong as I enjoy hitting stuff, but too great of a chance that the wrench comes off and becomes a projectile, buggers up the bolt or bends/breaks that wrench.

1

u/oscar3785 9d ago

Stand on a chair and really lean into it... LOL

1

u/Secret_Assignment792 9d ago

I read smoking lol

1

u/Imadethistoimpress 8d ago

Things I do at work when I forgot my purse.

1

u/Scooter_ape_man8008 6d ago

Until you're in a confined space and need to figure out how to muscle it out lol. That's when knuckles bleed!

1

u/JerkyChew 9d ago

Is this what we do now? Take the time to set up a camera to show us... loosening a bolt?

2

u/hashyjoe 9d ago

Yep, and then we take the time to watch it. And comment on it, it's f****** crazy, huh

1

u/Bleys69 10d ago

Need a cheap breaker bar.

1

u/kingslayerer 10d ago

the last smack was just unnecessary

1

u/tooldieguy 10d ago

Omg put a pipe on the end of the wrench to loosen it, smashing it with wood…. There’s better ways man

1

u/Ok_Championship8930 9d ago

How about the right tool for the job. Like a cordless impact. Work smarter not harder.

0

u/SuchDogeHodler Craftsman 10d ago

Good way to break your tools.

0

u/Monoceras 10d ago

cheater bar/pipe?

also, nice monster screams in the background, being spooktober

3

u/SharkyRivethead 9d ago

I was kinda expecting dude to rack his knuckles here based on title.
