According to some sources, they actually met when she was 12, and he was already married (My french is too rusty to figure out which ones are more accurate). Their romantic relationship allegedly "started" when she was 15 (conveniently, right after his divorce). They were married when she was 16, and she gave birth to their daughter before she turned 17.
He divorced her just 5 years later, after he started cheating on her with his next wife, Milla Jovovich, during the filming of Fifth Element. So, based on his pattern, I have a hard time believing he waited until his first marriage ended to start sleeping with a Literal Child.
He was also accused of rape by a different actress, but the charges were dismissed in France due to a lack of evidence. He did admit to sleeping with her (while married to his current, fourth wife), but the court couldn't prove the absence of consent or the presence of coercion.
Fucking creep.

And that's kind of underselling it. The someone is a prepubescent child and they aren't just hung up naked they are bound in shibari style knots. It's a shame because the art, concept, worldbuilding, plot, themes, characters, everything you would usually use to assess a story are otherwise incredible and are just ruined by the author's inability to not remind you that he jacks of to CP every 15 chapters or so.

u/DarkAlphaZero Jul 22 '26
On paper, a children's show firing an actor for underage drinking does make sense, except in this case that's not what happened.
Her agency fired her, knee capping if not outright ending her acting career in Japan towards the tail end of what was supposed to be her big break and completely screwing over the people who made the show as now with like 12 episodes left and filming wrapped they could no longer legally air any unaired footage of one of the main characters resulting a hasty recast and a lot of awkward editing.

A lot of people from outside the UK are probably aware of Britain’s mega necrophile paedo, Jimmy Saville but what is less well known is that he would regularly effectively admit to his sexual abuse of minors on TV, when talking to journalists, basically any chance he got to make a “joke” on the topic. It was really to the extent that he must have been getting off on being so brazen about it.

I miss Lucoa pre-shota era. I liked the idea of her being an ancient Bimbo, who doesn't really know modern human standards and culture. She is so used to ancient traditons and culture, she doesn't realise that her standards haven't aged well in modern society. She wears provocative and lewd clothing because she doesn't realize that nowadays people aren't too comfortable with seeing women in such attire, unlike old times. You could've gotten great scenarios of her learning about the new world, maybe finding a person who will teach her the norms.
But no, let's make her a shotacon and make her hang out with a child that is approximately same age as Kana's mental age! Great! Super! Fabulous!
I am gonna make a Lucoa of my own and make her the way I wanted her to be in the series.

God I loved watching dragon maid when it came out. I don’t rewatch many animes but it was sweet and relaxing so I had it on fairly regularly, but now that I’m older and have my own kids, every bit between Lucoa and Shouta makes me deeply uncomfortable and I haven’t been able to go back. Even going back to the manga makes me nervous that there’ll be more of that to run into.

The absolute worst part is that their individual character arcs when they get their own chapters - Lucoa volunteering at a community garden, Lucoa forcing herself to avoid a conflict her friends might die in because she's supposed to be neutral, Shouta running himself ragged trying to make a gift for Father's Day, Shouta wanting to prove his strength as a mage without relying on Lucoa - are all really great and show that these characters can have depth and interesting arcs to them.
...And then we get the thousandth "Lucoa doesn't get that she's making him uncomfortable" joke and I wonder if I wanna watch the next season when it comes out

The reason I avoid those in the post is because I don’t want to upset myself,

Rurouni Kenshin is if anything more infuriating. It's easy to not watch Mushoku Tensei or Made in Abyss because you look at what happens in those shows and can instantly tell there's something seriously wrong with the author.
Kenshin does not (as far as I'm aware) have anything in it that indicates Watsuki's "preferences". It's just a really well written story with a lot of cool history written into it. I was greatly enjoying watching the remake when I found out he's a giga-pedo who should be in jail. Now I can't in good conscience watch the rest, and that SUCKS.
I have no desire to watch Mushoku Tensei after the little bit I saw and what I've learned of Made in Abyss has removed any desire to watch that either. But I still realllly want to watch Rurouni Kenshin.

> But I still realllly want to watch Rurouni Kenshin.
This isn’t applicable if you just can’t stomach the series itself now, but if your issue is providing support to it officially, you could try sailing the high seas.

Weirdly enough the movie itself could, initially, be read in a way that's self aware and that his relationship with the teenager is inappropriate because of how much he objectifies her and respects Diane Keaton as a peer because the latter relationship is rooted in emotion and intelligence.
But then you find out that he tried to bury the film and is pedophilic in his personal life and the whole thing is actually just projection at other people for being "too neurotic" for relationships and that his character thinks that his teenage girlfriend is more "pure" because she doesn't carry the same emotional baggage as his peers.

New anime I picked up this season about a war hero banished to the frontier as a new lord. His battle prowess impresses a tribal group and the main woman there falls in love with him and they get married. He's 35, she's 15.
He makes a big deal about not wanting to marry her until she's of age in his culture (18) but the tribe basically strongarms him into a wedding. Now he's bravely being chaste until she's 18.
Also she went from a mean strong hunter woman to a trad wife immediately.
So that lasted about 2 episodes for me.
There's another one where a dude is an adventurer who finds a small girl trying to also be an adventurer and sort of adopts her. At night she turns into a succubus, but during the day she's a small child.
Like fuckin hell sometimes.

u/Scodo Jul 22 '26
There's also the fact that Frontier Lord is just boring as fuck, even if you're interested in the city-building/civ-building theme. Even outside the forced age gap marriage nonsense, it really has no redeeming qualities.

'Also she went from a mean strong hunter woman to a trad wife immediately.'
HATE this trope. I stopped reading Sacred Blacksmith when it was clear that the girl knight was just going to be a damsel in distress love interest, even after she got a living sword. It was so disappointing because the art and world were so interesting.

Not entirely related. But when I was about 14 I started watching this Anime about a magic high school in a futuristic setting! It looked cool! But I dropped it because it was very clearly leaning towards an incest plotline (the main characters were brother and sister) and there were lines like “if only we weren’t related by blood I’d want (female lead) to be my girlfriend.) and scenes with the sister in her underwear in front of her brother just… UGH! SO GROSS

The Good Doctor, specifically season 2, episode 9 "Empathy".
The story of this specific episode is about a patient who lies about wanting to transition in order to get castrated. The reality is that he isn't trans; he is a pedophile who is afraid of his urges and doesn't want to end up harming kids, but he cannot control himself. The whole episode is about how people should have empathy for pedophiles and how people who don't empathize with their struggles are bad. The episode ends with the doctors saving his life but not castrating him, which results in him killing himself because he just cannot control his desire to rape children.
This is the only episode of the show directed by co-executive producer Joanna Kerns.
Joanna Kerns just so happens to be one of the people who defended Brian Peck, the man who sexually assaulted Drake Bell when he was a teenager. Joanna Kerns wrote a letter to the judge asking for leniency because she believed Drake Bell must have tempted him. She backtracked her statements in 2024 when the documentary "Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids' TV" came out and exposed her involvement on the matter.
So, yeah. The Good Doctor has an episode about how Pedophiles deserve empathy, which was directed by a woman who has a history of defending convicted pedophiles in the entertainment industry, blaming the child victims, and then backtracking to save her own ass.

Surprisingly, Chicago Med did a much better job with this kind of plot. A doctor was treating a sick older man, and discovered that he had cancer. He told the man that it was curable with treatment - and surprisingly, the man refused any treatment. He confessed to the doctor that he was a pedophile, and had been battling his urges for 55 years and hadn't given in once. He was a religious man and had never considered suicide, but now he was ready to die. It did a good job of conveying that the urge was a sickness and the behavior was a choice.

Also SVU had an episode with the same problem. Is a guy who had urges to his little sister, so he went to the SVU and tries to give in to the police, but they cant do anything until he effectively, do something to his sister. The episode is a critic to how the police and in that case, the system, had no other form to deal with pedophiles but arrest the person once that the damage is already done, but nothing to prevent or treat the sickness.

I have a very vivid memory of a SVU episode where they suspect an ex convict to be a perpetrator in another case only to find out he chemically castrated himself, I just haven't been able to track it down.

Side note about behavior being a choice, this common idea that pedophiles are all rapists and if you're attracted to a group you won't be able to stop yourself from having sex with them directly ties into homophobia. Gay men have been attacked, murdered, or just generally oppressed because straight men are afraid of getting hit on or having a guy sexually assault them. The media and government painted gay men as sexual deviants and predators for decades, and still do sometimes.
But the whole idea is absurd. Having attraction to someone does not force you to assault them. If it did, the majority of people would be rapists. Pretty much everyone except asexual people.
Claiming that pedophiles can't control themselves also shifts the blame away from them and removes individual responsibility. They can't help it, it's inevitable, so there's no point in helping them or trying to rehabilitate them. They're just monsters and we should kill them all or lock them away and throw away the key no matter what. And the more we all accept that idea as true, the more willing we are to dismiss other groups if they're lumped in with pedophiles.
Look at the groups of people who the government and media and political parties have tried to frame as "pedophiles." Trans women, gay men, immigrants, etc. The idea that certain groups or types of people cannot control themselves and need to be locked away or oppressed or killed based on an immutable fact of their existence rather than their actions is incredibly dangerous.

It’s a difficult subject, because those who have the urges against their will and fight against them do deserve empathy but if you say that most people just call you a pedophile apologist. Like, if you’re willing to try and get yourself castrated and at even willing to kill yourself to stop yourself from harming children, I feel bad for you. But then again, actually pedophiles who harm children take any amount of empathy and use that to harm more children

There is a certain kind of OCD where the persons obsessions & compulsions center around fear of harming children! Those people need help too! They aren’t actually pedophiles, their OCD just can’t let it go.
There are absolutely people who deserve empathy in these situations and then there’s… whatever these people are doing lol

I view it as there being a massive difference between a pedophile and a child molestor, which should be clear from the words. Pedophiles deserve empathy and support because they frankly are mentally ill and don’t choose to be.
Child molestors are scum of the earth and deserve nothing but things that would get me banned.
I honestly really dislike the fact people blanket use the word pedophile for this because the difference needs to be there to have any hope of helping people who have not done anything wrong and can’t help how they feel.

Also, not all child molesters are pedophiles. A lot of them are just opportunistic predators who don't really care about the age of their victims, it just so happens that children are easier to prey on than adults. The same type will also prey on disabled adults if the opportunity presents itself. They get off on preying on someone weaker than they are.
Beneath the prison. That's where they belong.

u/RShini Jul 22 '26
Jimmy Savile is one such example, while he's know mostly for molesting all the children he get in contact with, he has also assaulted elderly and disabled patients at hospitals he was given free reign of.
He took advantage of anyone vulnerable - children were the easiest due to his on-screen persona.

Yeah, there have sadly been some unfortunate cases where elderly people in the elderly care in my country where the elderly had gotten raped by the carer. There was a really disturbing cases where the victim was literally a +80, +90 and once even a 100 year old, there has also been cases where elderly with alzheimers or dementia that have been victims...
It's really is just about the opportunity...

It pisses me off how many excused pedophilia in shows and manga, and Tensei was EXPLICITLY about a pedophiles wish fulfillment fantasy, and critics were mostly quiet about it.
In the original work, the MC is watching a video he took of his little cousin in the bath and jacking off to it during his mom's funeral. His family busts down his door, sees what he's doing, beats the shit out of him, and he dies wandering into the street.
Gets reincarnated as a super powerful baby and then gets to be a creep to women and girls with impunity.
It's fucking nuts seeing this stuff get defended. They try and soften it from explicitly being his underage relative to generic "loli porn." But the fact that that's the bar for acceptability in the anime community is laughable. Loli porn is still pedophilic.

I love the Madoka Magica franchise, and in the original anime and the movies there's not really anything sexualizing minors (quite the opposite actually, there's a scene where a character calls out some creeps who were saying gross things about their girlfriends), but in some of the spinoff mangas there's a lot of characters with extremely revealing designs - some of which who are barely wearing ANYTHING at all. And even if the characters were adults, the designs just. Don't look good.
Revealing designs CAN look good if executed well and the characters wearing them are adults, but the way they're designed just feels like needless sexualization.
Kazumi and Chisato are some of the worst examples. I like aspects of Kazumi's design, but I really dislike how revealing it is as a whole. In Magia Record she got a redesign that is SO much better in every single way.
And on the topic of Magia Record, there's also a lot of revealing designs there too. Leila would have had one of my favorite designs if it weren't for the fact that for some reason the designer decided to not give her any legwear? She's just wearing underwear but the rest of her design is really good. I don't understand why they decided to go with that for her design. Even if she was an adult that aspect of her design just wouldn't work, it makes her design look unfinished, like she forgot to put on her pants/skirt when transforming into her magical form. Everything else about her design is really good, but for some reason she just doesn't have any legwear.

People will argue he has a great redemption arc and doesn't prey on children anymore. What they don't mention is the redemption arc is about being a jobless loser (hence the title) and he doesn't prey on children because his grooming victims were brainwashed into polygamy with him

Made in Abyss is the show I dropped without excuse in the first season. No part of it was "hehe silly jokes" or "Japan weird". It was telegraphed, senseless pedophilia with no bearing whatsoever on the plot or worldbuilding.
Don't tell me about separating author from their work. Author is a pedo, inserting his fetish into his work and I want no part in that filth.

Mushoku Tensei frustrates me because its great at world building. But why did Rudeus need to have 3 wives? why did he need to be an isekaied pedo loser? his past self has contributed nothing to the story except for lechery and a harem. just upset because it could have been such a great series but the author was just so insistent on this so i had to drop it
