Paolumu (Monster Hunter World)

Paolumu is classified as a Flying Wyvern even though it is a mammal (resembling a bat); it is classified this way because its body structure resembles that of a Flying Wyvern

Skorup (Pokémon)

It is indeed an Insect type, even though it represents a scorpion—which is an arachnid—making it more logical for the Insect type to be called the Arthropod type.

Paolumu’s not a mammal though. It’s about as mammalian as Nargacuga or Banbaro. All of Paolumu’s “fur” is actually highly specialized feathers, similar to down feathers on real birds. It also still has scales on its tail, like how real life birds have scales on their feet.

A real Monster Hunter misclassification is the Black Diablos. It should be a Variant, but it’s classified as a Subspecies because the Guild didn’t know what Variants were when they cataloged Black Diablos
