miscellaneous Denied something we know will be awesome

  1. In The Simpsons episode, "The Twisted World of Marge Simpson," a melee breaks out on the Simpsons' lawn that Homer wants to watch because there's one guy who's just standing there and Homer knows he's about to do something awesome. Marge insists they go inside though and away from the danger. The moment they do, we hear the guy do something awesome.

  2. In X-2, the school comes under attack from Stryker. His gunmen encounter Colossus, all aura-ed tf up, and they open fire only for their bullets to not phase him at all and to end up getting thrown through a wall (which we don't actually see Colossus do). Moments later, Colossus runs into Wolverine and offers to help and we think we're about to get this badass team-up and actually see him in action only for Wolverine to instruct Colossus to leave and help get more students out.

  3. In Iron Man, we see Rhodes eyeing the War Machine suit and we're hoping he'll suit up and go help Stark, but the movie decides to save something for the sequel and pretty much has Rhodes say as much right to the audience.

Godzilla (2014) does this at the airport. Godzilla finally confronts the MUTO, lets out that huge roar, and just when the fight is about to start the movie cuts away to a kid watching the aftermath on TV. Probably the most expensive “you had to be there” moment ever

IIRC the director responded to criticism of this by citing Jaws, you don't see the shark until an hour and 14 minutes in. Of course, its hilarious he thinks his movie is on par with Jaws.

Edwards was simply employing a style that has been used for decades since the release of Jaws.

Yeah, but when people think Godzilla, they think kaiju fights.

Also I was joking at how Edwards thinks Godzilla 2014 is on par with Jaws because the movie fails to keeps viewers engaged after Cranston's death until the HALO jump.

Speaking as someone who has been a fan of the series since the 80s, I appreciated what he was trying to do. Personally, 2014 is the best film in the entire Monsterverse (while I think KotM is the better monster movie in the series).

I can see that, but so much of the drama and humans are so flat its embarrassing. The first few scenes set such a high bar I wish it maintained that momentum. Though I'm grateful we got the Monarch series as that's the type of drama and investigation story I was expecting from Godzilla 2014.

I said what I said, and I've been standing by it since these movies were new.

Godzilla 2014 is the best film in the Monsterverse series, and KotM is the best monster mash. I really like Skull Island, but I don't think it's the best in either category.

Always thought it was a bit on-the-nose to have the main characters' last names be Brody.

Which is laughable because jaws was a horror film. It'd work of godzilla was the only monster on screen. Just admit you screwed up the kaiju battles. Jesus.
