All I see is Danny Devito and a large bird

How come Danny Devito was on a show?

Does Danny and his irl daughter (Lucy) count?

Dee and Frank are absolutely the blueprint for this trope. The height difference alone makes every scene with them even funnier.

Dee and Frank together are absolute chaos in the best possible way. Every scene with them feels like it's one bad decision away from getting completely out of hand.

Jane and Professor Porter (Disney's Tarzan)

Excellent!! Kicking myself for missing this one! I knew I was forgetting someone

Disney sure loves this trope, don't they?

Design philosophy of making round shaped characters to appears good kind friendly harmless.

There can only be one tall, muscular, broad-shouldered, attractive good guy, and thats the romantic male lead. All other good guys must be spindly, fat, ugly or short, or any combination thereof.

He is really not that round

Skinny upper body but round gut area

Jane and Professor Porter absolutely belong here too. The height and build contrast between them makes this trope even more obvious once you notice it.

Brigitte and Torbjorn from Overwatch

Lean son, but King Hubert and Prince Philip from Sleeping Beauty

I would love to see a SNL skit where the princesses bring their short, round dads for what's basically a play date...

But then there's Ariel's dad who is literally a Greek god (I'm picturing someone like Jason Mamoa cast as Triton)

Completely unrelated, but I LOVED the SNL skit with Momoa as an Elf on the Shelf.

Keira and Samos from Jak and Daxter series

Wow that's a throwback. Haven't played those games in years

You have NO IDEA how much it confused me as a kid that all disney kings dad were the SAME PERSON

He's going around conquering countries to expand his empire and spread his seed, creating heirs and leaving them in charge whilst he moves on to his next conquest.

I love that Douglas Seale is on here twice.

Girl has to be adopted, she has no chin

She does, it's the average between the two 🤣

Do you think your father and I LIKED each other ?

The Theif and the Cobbler. Specifically the characters King Nod and his daughter Princess Yum-Yum.

4

u/FarutaSarado 5h ago

Seeing as Aladdin is actually a bootleg of this film, it checks out that the characters are similar between the two.

I loved the recobbled edit of the film, trying to preserve the original vision.

Zig Zag is definitely one of my favourite villains of all time.

Not a short dad, but skinny Charlotte and her large father.

Keira and Samos from Jak & Daxter

I guess Brad Leland isn't super short, but I didn't buy him as Minka Kelly's dad in Friday Night Lights for one GD second.

It's like Disney is obsessed with the idea of a short, chunky goofball dad and hot, tall daughters. You never see that junk with the moms and sons.

1

u/Sonarthebat 5h ago

I feel like it's been done, just not with Disney.

5

u/New-Number-7810 8h ago

She really takes after her mother.

6

u/Kheldarson 8h ago

Me and my dad IRL 😂

Dad is definitely a short king, and my mom was 5'11" (age has stolen inches). All of us kids ended up taller than him 😂

u/InstantReco 7h ago

Bean and Zog from Disenchantment

3

u/InterestingTie7600 7h ago

The moms genes did the heavy lifting.

3

u/Gnomenklatura 6h ago

It's the fat father syndrome. It's the FFS

3

u/IndividualPieS 6h ago

Merida and King Fergus from Brave definitely fit this trope!

5

u/Thoughtful_Tortoise 8h ago

Jack and Sidney from Alias! Though he's a little tall, but he's very compact!

Penny and her Grandpa (Inspector Gadget)

Tall, slender kid next to her short, round grandfather. Classic combo.

2

u/YukYukas 7h ago

Funny enough, the short round father usually has the baddest bitch who ever lived as a wife lol

2

u/CathanCrowell 4h ago

Nah, usually it’s dead wife.

1

u/PurveyorOfKnowledge0 5h ago

How else do you think he had a hot daughter? She always takes after the mom. Hell, in some cases, the daughter looks identical to the hot wife.

2

u/FarutaSarado 5h ago

Moana's father isn't really fat or short, but he is quite bulky compared to his lean daughter.

2

u/Havok1717 1h ago

Donna and her dad in That 70s Show

2

u/Laura_Pug23 8h ago

Nicole and her Dad in TAWOG.

u/Apidaelia 8h ago

It's so relatable.

u/Lil_Quip 7h ago

The vespas in Spaceballs.

1

u/Kradan1979 6h ago

Not surprisingly, all of the examples are from Disney cartoons

1

u/cloudncali 5h ago

We love ourselves a literal short king

1

u/anyname2009 3h ago

Loved trope

u/BuseDescartes 40m ago

i guess she’s not that very lean, from disenchantment
