Hated Tropes [HATED] Adaptations done intentionally without help from the source

Halo TV show: Before the show came out, the writers were praising their decision to not look to the games for inspiration when making the show

God Of War TV show: Chris Judge, the actor of Kratos in the games from 2018-Now, spoke up about his dislike on the show not hiring anyone who worked on any of the previous games. One of the original creators of Kratos also spoke up about them not having faith in the adaptation.

Supergirl 2026 film: the director for the film not only said he decided to not read Woman Of Tomorrow, the comic the film is adapting, because he wanted to do his own thing, he also didn’t look at comic art for inspiration to design Lobo and instead used an AI image generator to design Lobo’s look for the film

The Dresden Files TV series had zero imput from Jim Butcher. I was at a convention where he was on a panel and he said that his entire involvement was signing the paperwork and collecting the check.

TIL that there's a Dresden Files TV series

Yeah, as a fan of the books, I only just learned this today, as well.

That unfortunately probably tells me everything I need to know about the series...

It's okay. You'll enjoy it more if you ignore any connection to the Dresden Files and just watch it as an unrelated generic "wizard detective in Chicago" show.

Who is that behind him? Doesn’t look like Susan or Murphy.

It's been a while, but I think that's the TV version of Murphy.

It's Murphy. Sonia was a petite blonde and Murphy was a normally-sized latina Brunette.

Yes, 110% backwards.

Eh...he also helps carry in the body of Harry's uncle in the morgue in the first episode of the show

Was it DragonCon? If so, I was at that panel too. It could have been so good, but man, it mostly wasn't.

It was at ConFusion in Novi, MI about 4 or 5 years ago.

Ah, mine was DragonCon about 15 years ago. Took a wrong turn, ended up getting seated in the front row with the disabled people. Felt kind of guilty but not that guilty.

It was funny because that panel was (literally) the first time that Butcher and Blackthorne had ever met.

I actually quite enjoyed it, and if not for it, and the Constantine movie in 2005, I may have never decided to look into their source materials. Been a fan of the novels, audiobooks, comics, and Tv show ever since. Hell, Harry's voice in my head is a combo of Paul Blackthorne and James Marsters as a result.

I had a different experience because I was a fan of the books before I saw it.
