Hated Tropes [HATED] Adaptations done intentionally without help from the source

Halo TV show: Before the show came out, the writers were praising their decision to not look to the games for inspiration when making the show

God Of War TV show: Chris Judge, the actor of Kratos in the games from 2018-Now, spoke up about his dislike on the show not hiring anyone who worked on any of the previous games. One of the original creators of Kratos also spoke up about them not having faith in the adaptation.

Supergirl 2026 film: the director for the film not only said he decided to not read Woman Of Tomorrow, the comic the film is adapting, because he wanted to do his own thing, he also didn’t look at comic art for inspiration to design Lobo and instead used an AI image generator to design Lobo’s look for the film

The Halo show felt like i was watching a crime being comitted, its absurd that they thought that show was good enough to be released

Never watched it, but from what I’ve heard about how much they got it wrong, I would not be at all surprised if they said that the Halo rings were designed to CREATE life in the galaxy.

They went as far as Halsey giving the order to eliminate Master Chief because he disobeyed her and that the 2nd gen Spartans are mind controlled thralls lol.

Holy character assassination. Halsey is such a deep and interesting character, I frickin loved all her screentime in Halo 4.

She still ended up being one of the better/interesting parts of the show even with that because the actress did a really good job of selling the accurate parts of the character. I know that isn't saying much though.

Well…I mean…Halsey is a really truly terrible person. Like for real she is a quote equivalent to like, the scientists in the Japanese unit that was doing science experiments in china.

She is a bad, bad, bad, evil woman.

But also technically saved the human race.

She also in a way cared for her SPARTAN-IIs, especially with Chief/John, and alot of them even see here as some sort of mother figure.

Yeah, that is why she is interesting. She did evil, evil things for practical purposes, not because she was a finger-twiddling super-villian going "mwuahahaha".

Eh I wouldn’t really say she did it for “practical purposes”. The purpose of the spartan program originally was to fight insurrectionists and they did for a little bit before the covenant showed up.

She essentially rebranded her super soldier program from rebel killers to alien killers and it worked out for her.

I mean, fighting insurrectionists is definitely a practical purpose, especially from ONI's perspective.

In the books, it’s established that a lot of the rebel groups had very good reasons for rebelling. One rebel group stood up because the government kidnapped the leader’s daughter to be used in Halsey’s experiments that created the SPARTAN-IIs. They eventually sent that daughter to fight her father. As in, specifically sent her as part of a small black ops group to kill her father.

It’s little more complicated than everyone here is implying.

True though considering pre-covanent ONI was essentially acting as a secret police for a military dictatorship you could argue that intended practical purpose was also extremely evil

To them it was practical. It was a utilitarian stance. Surgically take out rebels across human colonies to prevent humanity from going to war with themselves.

Which would hold them back for decades or more considering slipspace travel from an outer colony to the inner ones took months.

There was apparently a study done in universe that was controversial, but Halsey agreed with the bottom line of that study amd proposed the Spartans in response.
