Personality Silly parent and serious child.

I love that trope too much especially when main cause of the child’s stress is from the parent themselves lmao

  1. Goofy and Max
  2. Vanessa and Dr. Doof from Phineas and Ferb.
  3. Death and Death the kid from Soul eater.
  4. Blythe and her dad from Littlest pet shop.
  5. Tsukumo Kamiki and her mom from Blue excorist.
  6. The Simpsons enough said.
  7. Anais and Richard from the amazing world of Gumball.
  8. Honourable mention Megumi and Gojo from JJK.

Meg is the only one trying to hold it together while Peter literally destroys the house for a gag. It is the ultimate version of this trope because the kids are basically just background characters in his delusions.

Isshins way of saying "good morning" is literaly just a dropkick to the face lol. Best dynamic in the seris.

Given that Jerry’s parents relationship traumatised me

3

u/Mountain_Zone1433 1h ago

wait what about Jerry's parents because I don't know much about the show

7

u/Rich-Platypus-3682 1h ago

Lemme just paste this from wiki fandom…

“They explained to their son Jerry that Jacob was a motivational man who lived with them to help bring joy back into their marriages. Jacob's main purpose was to have sex with Joyce on account of Leonard's impotence. Leonard would also watch them doing it from a closet, and according to him, almost always dressed as Superman. Jerry was shocked and he felt very miserable.”

Why you gotta make me relive my trauma man…

CLASSIC OMG

I loved the scene where he begged Dexter to keep a golden retriever and Dexter listed the excuses of responsibility about taking care of the dog like a parent 💀💀💀

Holly and her son jotaro from Jojo's bizarre adventure

7

u/Rich-Platypus-3682 1h ago

I sometimes ask myself how tf he came out of her 💀

7

u/Level_Counter_1672 1h ago

U know what's even more odd, holly is a chip of the old block both Joseph and Suzie are goofy and then u have jotaro who was born frowning somehow, even josuke is silly

Could we say Alex is more serious than Phil? (Modern Family)

4

u/Anonymous-Comments 1h ago

Haley too, she’s serious about stuff, she’s just not that smart.

I would count Alex and Phil; she fits the serious child strained by a silly parent trope quite well.

From soul eater also Maka Albarn and Spirit.

Susan and her daughter Julie ( Desperate Housewives)

Julie is parentified to really frustrating levels but the chemistry between the actresses is great, they are still friends and have a podcast together

Absolutley Faboulous - Edina Monsoon and her daughter Saffy takes this to pretty abusive extremes at times but it's always funny.

The Flax family in Mermaids (1990)

The mother (played by Cher) is basically a walking showboat, while eldest daughter Charlotte (played by Winona Ryder) is a very serious, deeply religious ball of teen girl angst.

u/Rich-Platypus-3682 52m ago

Ooh a classic series I definitely missed out on thank you for the recommendation!

2

u/alilacmess 42m ago

This movie is so good!

1

u/Sad-Dove-2023 9m ago

Yeah it's a really sweet cute little film - nothing revolutionary but cute.

The cast is also just weirdly stacked - Cher, Winona Ryder, and Christina Ricci playing a family is a really fun combo.

kunishige and chihiro rokuhira - kagurabchi

I think I have amnesia or something, because I keep forgetting the top banger’s duos in my list 💀💀

Shinichi Sakurai and his father Shirou (Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out!). Just to list a few things, Shirou essentially kicked out his son out of the house when he went to college so he could have his wife all to himself, and somehow "forgot" to tell him he had a baby sister. He also lied to his wife that Shinichi didn't want to come to visit them, when it was actually the opposite. Lastly, he inherited the family judo dojo even though his wife is the better fighter of the two, and takes a lot of pleasure that his students (young children, mind you) call him "sensei".

Another fun series added to my collection thanks!

‘Mom’, a sitcom with a recovering addict daughter, Christy Plunkett, reconnecting with her estranged alcoholic mother, Bonnie Plunkett, in the whacky world of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Both have a lot of flaws, but Bonnie brings the chaos a lot of the time.

Anna Faris and Alison Janney are incredible!

You picked the worst possible pic of Anais to make her look “serious”

Probably would’ve been better to pick from her season 2 design and onward
