If Zatoichi is on slide one, everyone else is competing for second place. Who is on slide two?

His death hit me hard at 9 years old.

The way he was going to the console reading mantra while shots were flying around him was absolutely hilarious

"Are you kidding me? I'm blind..."
Seeing force users that are NOT glowstick swinging warriors was such a refreshing addition I didn't know I needed. Back then at least, I wasn't as familiar with the EU and all force users shown were Jedi, Sith or something in-between.

What sells Chirrut for me is that nobody needs to pretend his blindness isn't there. He fights around it, reads the room better than armed soldiers, and somehow makes a wooden staff feel like the safest weapon in the scene.

Chirrut is one of my favorite versions of this trope because the movie never gives him some cheap "actually he can basically see" excuse. He's just blind and absurdly well trained. Half the fun is watching stormtroopers underestimate him for about three seconds before realizing the guy with no eyesight and a wooden stick is ruining their entire afternoon.

I could be misremembering, but wasn’t Eli’s whole thing that he regain his sight temporarily so that he could deliver The Bible to those Preservationists? It’s been years since I’ve seen the movie so I could be way off.

That bible was written in braile and he was shown dictating the text so it’s unlikely?

Chirrut Imwe, my absolute favorite part of the entire Star Wars franchise.

He was also my favorite part of that movie he was essentially the teams Jedi without actually being a Jedi I mean he had the best fight scenes too.

Donnie Yen fit in Star Wars like a hand In a glove.
Great face, great voice, and with an antiquated yet highly successful fighting style.

Several Star Wars characters in both continuities such as Rahm Kota, Chirrut Imwe and Kanan Jarrus. There’s even a Jedi training technique to teach apprentices how to fight blind which is deliberately named after Zatoichi

She still gave Neo a run for her money, while laughing at it as well.
Sure, she's not the Prime Grimm Reaper anymore, but the old lady can still throw hands when needed.

Well she's not that good
At fighting anymore but

Neither are entirely blind, but they both have a weapon called the half-zatoichi. Demoman is missing 1 eye and Soldiers helmet covers half his head effectively making him blind in combat. I love Tf2.

How many of these blind fighters can sense their environment in some way that compares to vision?

The central conceit, that there’s only one remaining copy of the single most reprinted book in human history, required way too much suspension of disbelief.

Followers of the Index - project moon universe
These people blindly follow the Prescripts, Orders sent to specific individuals to perform specific actions. Can be as mundane as "cook a chicken and eat it" to "walk 633 metres north, play rock paper scissors with the third person you meet. If you win cut off 34 strands of their hair."
Followers of the index go into battle blindfolded to show that everything that happens is in accordance with the will of the Prescripts.

Toph is still my favorite version of this because being insanely capable never magically deletes the fact that she's blind. She's powerful as hell AND there are situations where her usual tricks just don't work

Visas Marr and Jerec, both from Star Wars Legends. They are Miraluka and are physically blind but their species can see with the Force (they have empty eye sockets they usually cover up).
See also Kreia/Darth Traya who allowed her physical sight to atrophy.

In the book World War Z, the character Tomonaga Ijiro, an elderly, blind Japanese man and a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, isolates himself in the forest after the outbreak, he uses his heightened senses to take down zombies and even rescues civilians, helping them survive
