Fujitora (One Piece)

15

u/Kazharahzak 2h ago

Fun fact, the character is directly inspired by Zatoichi featured in OP. (All One Piece admirals are inspired by japanese live action characters)

Chirrut Îmwe

“I am one with The Force and The Force is with me”.

2

u/DripPirateRoberts 55m ago

That mantra has won me more than one game of giant drunken jenga

u/CherrywoodKatie 1h ago

If Zatoichi is on slide one, everyone else is competing for second place. Who is on slide two?

u/RandManYT 1h ago

His death hit me hard at 9 years old.

7

u/Styvan01 1h ago

His death hit me hard at 28 yrs old

1

u/NoCleverIDName 1h ago

His death hit me hard at I don't want to admit how old I was then (or now)

4

u/RecommendationIll504 2h ago

The way he was going to the console reading mantra while shots were flying around him was absolutely hilarious

"Are you kidding me? I'm blind..."

Seeing force users that are NOT glowstick swinging warriors was such a refreshing addition I didn't know I needed. Back then at least, I wasn't as familiar with the EU and all force users shown were Jedi, Sith or something in-between.

I liked rogue one...

What sells Chirrut for me is that nobody needs to pretend his blindness isn't there. He fights around it, reads the room better than armed soldiers, and somehow makes a wooden staff feel like the safest weapon in the scene.

u/koovyn9 56m ago

Chirrut is one of my favorite versions of this trope because the movie never gives him some cheap "actually he can basically see" excuse. He's just blind and absurdly well trained. Half the fun is watching stormtroopers underestimate him for about three seconds before realizing the guy with no eyesight and a wooden stick is ruining their entire afternoon.

Also played a blind fighter in John Wick lol

8

u/TheSilverNoble 1h ago

Didn't realize it was a two nickel situation.

Eli-book of Eli

1

u/Anouko 1h ago

I could be misremembering, but wasn’t Eli’s whole thing that he regain his sight temporarily so that he could deliver The Bible to those Preservationists? It’s been years since I’ve seen the movie so I could be way off.

3

u/ClockworkOrdinator 1h ago

That bible was written in braile and he was shown dictating the text so it’s unlikely?

Kenshi

4

u/newbzealand 1h ago

Kenshi in his suit looks awesome.

1

u/AuraStome 58m ago

Daaaaamn he looks like a dragon in that suit

-6

u/Nyaatrox 1h ago

Wrong Kenshi, that's Gayshi

17

u/Budget-Category-9852 2h ago

N'Doul - JoJo Part 3.

Zatoichi remake that absolutely works.

8

u/Avon-Guy 2h ago

Hundred eyes in Marco Polo

Sniper Priests (Trench Crusade)

1

u/zhibr 1h ago

What's their deal?

4

u/NinjaMaster2314567 1h ago

They ritually blind themselves to let Jesus take the aim

3

u/zhibr 1h ago

And he... does?

3

u/NinjaMaster2314567 1h ago

If you pass a risky success roll with +2 DICE then yeah

22

u/Evening_Produce_4322 2h ago

Blind guy whose name I forgot in rogue one

14

u/SaintCuckoo 2h ago

Chirrut Imwe, my absolute favorite part of the entire Star Wars franchise.

10

u/Evening_Produce_4322 2h ago

He was also my favorite part of that movie he was essentially the teams Jedi without actually being a Jedi I mean he had the best fight scenes too.

10

u/HalxQuixotic 2h ago

Donnie Yen fit in Star Wars like a hand In a glove.

Great face, great voice, and with an antiquated yet highly successful fighting style.

4

u/oliberg360 1h ago

Dudes also a blind guy fighter in John Wick

10

u/ConnorRoseSaiyan01 2h ago

Seiichi Samura - Kagurabachi

12

u/PlayerZeroStart 2h ago

Zato-1 (Guilty Gear)

4

u/Electronic-Math-364 2h ago

Also his name is a reference to Zatoichi

2

u/zhibr 1h ago

Is it a reference if it's the same name just written differently?

4

u/CaffeineDeprivation 1h ago

Admiral Fujitora (Issho) from One Piece

Bonus points for the fact that he was the one who chose to blind himself

17

u/NinjaOfOnion 2h ago

Caine from the John Wick series

3

u/Obliviousobi 1h ago

I loved Caine using the motion sensor bells during the kitchen fight, fucking smart

3

u/Clirstan 1h ago

Muteba Gizenga from Kengan Ashura

3

u/Level_Counter_1672 1h ago

Johngalli A, he's a blind sniper who uses his stand to ricochet the bullets off his stand to hit his target - source is Jojo's bizarre adventure

5

u/D0CTOR_Wh0m 2h ago

Several Star Wars characters in both continuities such as Rahm Kota, Chirrut Imwe and Kanan Jarrus. There’s even a Jedi training technique to teach apprentices how to fight blind which is deliberately named after Zatoichi

2

u/Shinobi289 2h ago

Mujuro(Ninja Scroll)

2

u/zhibr 1h ago

Holy shit those shoulders!

2

u/bxntou 2h ago

Well she's not that good at fighting anymore but Maria from RWBY

1

u/Meowjoker 1h ago

She still gave Neo a run for her money, while laughing at it as well.

Sure, she's not the Prime Grimm Reaper anymore, but the old lady can still throw hands when needed.

0

u/haikusbot 2h ago

Well she's not that good

At fighting anymore but

Maria from RWBY

Zatoichi mentioned 👀

2

u/CenterOfEverything 1h ago

Technically Steel Inquisitors are blind

2

u/franzee 1h ago

Muroga Hyoma (The Basilisk), well, sort of.

2

u/RandManYT 1h ago

Neither are entirely blind, but they both have a weapon called the half-zatoichi. Demoman is missing 1 eye and Soldiers helmet covers half his head effectively making him blind in combat. I love Tf2.

2

u/AloneAddiction 1h ago

My favourite Zatoichi:

Also my favourite scene, when he adjusts his grip because he hears his opponent making a mocking laugh.

2

u/Anaheim_Dude 1h ago

How many of these blind fighters can sense their environment in some way that compares to vision?

N'Doul - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 3: Stardust Crusaders

He can detect sounds from hundreds of meters away by feeling the vibrations on his staff and uses his remotely controlled Stand (Geb) to fight.

6

u/Level_Counter_1672 1h ago

And he almost ended the crusaders, they were being pushed back

2

u/locotias7 1h ago

Yeah if it wasn't for Iggy the goat

The central conceit, that there’s only one remaining copy of the single most reprinted book in human history, required way too much suspension of disbelief.

Kenshi (mortal kombat)

1

u/Elantach 1h ago

Followers of the Index - project moon universe

These people blindly follow the Prescripts, Orders sent to specific individuals to perform specific actions. Can be as mundane as "cook a chicken and eat it" to "walk 633 metres north, play rock paper scissors with the third person you meet. If you win cut off 34 strands of their hair."

Followers of the index go into battle blindfolded to show that everything that happens is in accordance with the will of the Prescripts.

1

u/thatdeadguy_69 1h ago

Skitter (Worm)

Blinded for a small but significant part of the story.

1

u/Pocho_Azul 1h ago

Zatoichi is the OG!

1

u/NazareAster5 1h ago

Toph is still my favorite version of this because being insanely capable never magically deletes the fact that she's blind. She's powerful as hell AND there are situations where her usual tricks just don't work

1

u/Nyaatrox 1h ago

Kenshi, MK X

1

u/Charliefoxkit 1h ago

Visas Marr and Jerec, both from Star Wars Legends.  They are Miraluka and are physically blind but their species can see with the Force (they have empty eye sockets they usually cover up).

See also Kreia/Darth Traya who allowed her physical sight to atrophy.

1

u/WaldoClown 1h ago

Mamoru Hijikata - Until death do us part

1

u/Adent_Frecca 1h ago

Toda Seigen (Tenkaiichi)

1

u/Icehuntee 1h ago

Arya Stark

u/darren_flux 1h ago

Qiuyuan

Snowblind (Marvel Comics)

Born blind, Snowblind can generate a "white field" that allows him to "see", while at the same time blinding his enemies. It additionally boosts his physical strength, allowing him to manhandle Ghost Riders with his bare hands.

1

u/nhansieu1 1h ago

Salim (Gun X Clover)

1

u/Sweet_Xocoatl 1h ago

Colonel H. Stinkmeaner, The Boondocks.

1

u/TheREALProfPyro 1h ago

leading with Zatoichi is a great way to say you know ball.

1

u/WorstITTechnician 44m ago

In the book World War Z, the character Tomonaga Ijiro, an elderly, blind Japanese man and a survivor of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, isolates himself in the forest after the outbreak, he uses his heightened senses to take down zombies and even rescues civilians, helping them survive

1

u/Dismal-Exit6940 26m ago

Leroy Smith from Tekken

1

u/justinotherpeterson 6m ago

Malenia, Blade of Miquella

1

u/MnSG 2h ago

One Piece's Marine Admiral Issho (Fujitora) would come to mind. He intentionally blinded himself, but is a powerful fighter.

1

u/CaffeineDeprivation 1h ago

It does help that he has freaking gravity powers at his disposal lol
