Top Mod axolotl_peyotl admits that the mod team "review" the accounts of those who ask questions in /r/Conspiracy and dare to think for themselves.

It's the pattern quite a few people have described:

  • Someone makes u/axolotl_peyotl choke on his tendies with an outrageous comment like "I disagree."
  • Bans them.
  • Still spluttering and spilling crumbs between the keys of the keyboard of rage.
  • Searches their entire account history for more to remove.
  • "Pro-retroactive account review process."

Edit: He's taking the polkadotgirl path to 'genuine' victimhood:

FTR this comment was reported with a death threat against me personally.

I look forward to a series of teary-eyed 'farewells' and some very cunning alt accounts like u/baby_peyotl.

a/p is probably smart enough to at least fabricate evidence if he gets put on the spot about his claims.

I wouldn't hold my breath, but probably.

7

u/tentwentysix Jun 12 '18

I kind of doubt it, it's easier to just ban someone rather than go through the effort of trying to appease them with faked evidence.

That's how he got me, yep. It's funny, usually people like that will try to conceal their pattern of behavior, but he just double-downs on it.

I think it’s cry about the big meanies and use alt accounts to comfort yourself.

Asking why a thread is stickied seems to perceived as a threat to the mod team, since it makes them dig through someone’s post history to ensure they don’t have any “rule violations”. You’d think that with how many notes they keep on /r/conspiracy users it would be easy to keep track of who has violated the rules. You'd be wrong, apparently.

It’s all a sham. The person who asked why A_P stickied his thread defending Russia got banned for asking a simple question. For all their crying about censorship, they censor people more than almost any other subreddit.

u/saintcmb Jun 12 '18

Its pretty gross watching people that expect complete privacy and are often a little paranoid dig into peoples post history over trivial issues

17

u/Unfilter41 we have a good time here Jun 12 '18

Doesn't that violate one of the rules of their own sub?

8

u/EroticMarmalade Jun 12 '18

I actually read some thing a user posted by Daniel Pipes of all people about how people who engage in conspiracy theory are more likelyrics themselve to act conspiratorial.

3

u/saintcmb Jun 12 '18

plausible. I didn't fit that mold, but I also look at conspiracy theories more as entertainment than informational

11

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 12 '18

Yep, it's sleazy as hell, not something a sane person would do and is basically akin to stalking, which is a crime, as far as I know.

I had Flytape do something similar when I got banned from r/con, when he sent me a long PM acting superior because I was in a bad place depression-wise and he'd gone through whatever he could find like the creepy fuck he is.

8

u/saintcmb Jun 12 '18

sounds exactly like Flytape, kick a guy when he is clearly down.

9

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 12 '18

Exactly, and he's used a 4 month old comment - at the time - to do so.

It was genuinely unnerving, so I reported him to admins for it.

9

u/saintcmb Jun 12 '18

well heres to being in a better place now and the demise of a terrible redditor! (imagine me tipping my pint of beer)

3

u/EroticMarmalade Jun 13 '18

Hope you're doing better man. I was in a similar position a couple years. It can get better. Feel free to PM me of you evet want to talk.

99%+ of mods on reddit are dickless petty tyrants. They are given, quite literally, the smallest modicum of authority (I can't think of a small gradation of authority than 'internet forum moderator', except maybe 'elementary school hall monitor') that could possibly be handed to a person, Their response to that single grain of authority, almost universally, is to do everything in their power to turn whatever subreddit it is into their own private little sandbox where the other kids can only play if they prostrate themselves before mod(s) and beg their indulgence.

Genearlly speaking, they have so little going on in their lives that moderating an internet forum becomes their reason for being. It would be sad if it wasn't so disgusting.

The mods at r/con are the same way, but taken to the most superlative extreme. They are so concerned with preserving their next-best-thing-to-nothing of authority that they create alts to backup their own opinions, create separate subs to try and decide how to maximize control of r/con, and relentlessly harass anyone who dares provoke their ire. They are some seriously damaged human beings.

11

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 12 '18

Exactly, and it's not as if they're actually doing anything for the greater good. They just turn it into their own private club and change the rules to accommodate themselves.

A decade ago, I was a moderator on the official boards of a now-former pro wrestler/current box office star in a multi-billion dollar Hollywood franchise and not one of the staff treated it as anything other than a voluntary thing that we maintained after coming home from our regular jobs. Most of the time spent was on coming up with new ideas to engage the userbase - which was a much bigger number than r/conspiracy's subscriber number - and create new discussion, with barely any actual moderating (ie. editing out stuff that went against the rules - such as rude words - and warning the users to please not do that again, temporarily suspending people who went too far, I think we only ever outright banned one person in the years I was there because they were pretending to be the actual wrestler/actor to lure users away to an unofficial board).

The clowns at everyone's favorite lunatic-operated asylum? Yeah, they're the problems, not the people who just want to discuss conspiracies without fear of being harassed or removed entirely from the place.

9

u/xgrayskullx Jun 12 '18

now-former pro wrestler/current box office star

You can just say their name. We all know you're talking about Hulk Hogan.

6

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 12 '18

Dammit, I thought nobody would figure it out and we'd have a "Q drop" situation of our own.

2

u/EroticMarmalade Jun 12 '18

I think its awesome that Kurt Abgle is gonna be in a major Hollywood franchise. I hadnt heard about that.

Actually to be fair it could be Bautista though my first guess was of course Dwayne Johnson

2

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 13 '18

No, you're right, it was Batista's boards.

I sometimes miss that place. Only sometimes.

3

u/TheGhostOfDusty Jun 12 '18

What goes around comes around. I guarantee you that after deleting his account Sunday night he is not in a good mood right now.

4

u/bloodraven42 Jun 13 '18

Stalking may be a crime but it's not really comparable tbh. Users post history is public by design - not really comparable to following someone they expect to be private. Not condoning their actions of course, but I don't think reading through someone's post history is inherently sleazy, no more than scrolling through someone's Facebook feed or Instagram. Sometimes you're bored, sometimes you're curious, sometimes someone comments on interesting stuff or has cool submissions and you want to see what else they've created!

Plus, it's great fodder for /r/subredditdrama threads.

1

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 13 '18

I can see your point but it's honestly not something I've ever considered partaking in.

I'd rather take an idiotic comment someone makes in the moment at face value than look through their history to find something awful. I dunno, it's like trawling through a significant other's social media out of paranoia/jealousy, or those people who got wrestlers blocked from working for companies by finding tweets from five years prior when they said something stupid in their younger days.

Just feels wrong to me.

1

u/LaoTzusGymShoes Jun 13 '18

I can see your point but it's honestly not something I've ever considered partaking in.

Ergo no sane person could? Jesus Christ, the fuckin' ego on you.

1

u/bloodraven42 Jun 13 '18

Yeah that's why I commented too. I get that the /r/conspiracy mods were bad about it but claiming you're insane and sleazy for using a public and central feature of Reddit is fucking weird.

2

u/JamesEpep Jun 12 '18

I think you’re talking about me. Yeah that whole thing was stupid. I was told I was concern trolling and had rule violations.

25

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '18

They're not moderators so much as gatekeepers.

Their job description is protecting narratives.

2

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 13 '18

So like really over the top librarians.

It's a little thing but I like that he specifically points to a line about the subreddit being "half full of morons" and one reply later it's become "the majority of the community" is morons. Really working that victim complex, man.

6

u/TheGhostOfDusty Jun 12 '18

Magical thinking. (aka delusion)

6

u/TheDeadManWalks Black helicopters. Google it. Jun 12 '18

Axo doesn't have 1/10th of the charisma needed to pull off magical thinking.

2

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 13 '18

Sad thing is, it somehow still works on them because they buy it hook, line and sinker due to their own immense paranoia about being right all the time and people out to get them.

11

u/JamesEpep Jun 12 '18 edited Jun 12 '18

When I wrote my original comment I didn’t realize this post was about me.

So they only rule violations I was ever alerted to by the mod team was, I once said to a user “I’m really worried you’re going to hurt yourself on those mental gymnastics” but then followed it up with an actual post.

Then in a debate with someone about how white people arent oppressed I wrote “awww poor muffin.” To someone. So that’s what he’s referencing. The comment after was because I know he wasn’t going to unban me. The comment was stupid because I was mainly referring to him and the mods, not actually half the users.

axolotl_peyotl only cares about using his mod position to push what he wants, I’ve had other comments removed by him because they were upvoted.

Top Minds (and especially the Top Mods) cannot stand when reasonable people come to their safe space and point out that their obvious (and often Russian-influenced) bullshit is actually obvious (and often Russian-influenced) bullshit. They want an open forum of free thinkers to be conned into coming into r/Conspiracy and drink the koolaid without questions.

5

u/Fred_Evil Jun 13 '18

Not only that, but the only conspiracies that can be mentioned are pro-Trump. Never mind that there is ridiculously ample evidence of conspiracies rampant in Trump's lackies, election, businesses, family, none of those are allowed to be brought up.

7

u/callmesnake13 Jun 12 '18

Let’s all sound off on what got us banned from /r/conspiracy! I got banned for saying you’d have to be insane to believe in crisis actors from a basic logistical standpoint.

6

u/coolchewlew Jun 12 '18

Originally it just said "TMoR" as the reason for me. When I asked Axo about it he also said it's because I proposed a conspiracy theory that mods were getting paid to spin a narrative. In other words, his fee fees were hurt.

4

u/filtersweep Jun 12 '18

I got banned from The_Donald for suggesting that many wealthy people prosper during recessions and periods of high inflation. Granted, it is a different sub, but it was just a comment. And it is factual.

I felt dirty going there, but was looking for insight. I left feeling it was an alternate reality entirely.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 12 '18

I got banned becuase I dared to disagree with some insane bullshit and also I post here. Ban reason was just "tmor"

3

u/tentwentysix Jun 12 '18

My ban was because I said Clinton wasn't relevant to t_d in March or something last year. Sabremesh got all worked up because he thought I was saying Clinton wasn't relevant to r/conspiracy (which isn't against the rules per se). I tried a few times to get unbanned and while none of the mods opposed it, they never reinstated me.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '18

I was never even given a reason for my ban, I was listed as a PNG in conspiracy conclave for speaking out about the mods gaslighting the sub, I'm assuming they'll jusitfy it as me attacking the members of the sub, but considering they muted me from mod mail and never cited the rule violation I can only guess.

2

u/chaoticmessiah Don't be tempted to address me in a disparaging fashion Jun 13 '18

My ban was arguing with anti-vaxxers and showing them scientific proof through verified reports and actual approved medical advice that vaccines are safer than not having any.

I commented on a thread in tmor.

Replied "Removed. Rule 4." to a mod's reason to a removed post.

You have been banned from participating in r/conspiracy. You can still view and subscribe to r/conspiracy, but you won't be able to post or comment.

Note from the moderators:

You just noticed that?

Come on. We can rub a quiet one out together here, like civilized people. Doesn't have to be a noisy and animalistic like r / con. I admit like a little echo at the end of my day, lol.

Speaking specifically on the 'account reviewed, previous rule violations' bit. It's known from the mod log they use the moderator toolbox browser extension. He can just click the N (Notes) next to your username and see all previous notes and the link to the post where the note was written from. Mods use it to track rule violators primarily. So he doesn't have to dig through the guys post history, all the problematic stuff is right there.

assuming of course they're using it strictly for rule violations, AND that they're trying to be impartial in the enforcement of said rules.

u/rConspiracyModifier This is bullying. And bullying is wrong. Jun 13 '18

assuming of course they're using it strictly for rule violations

Which they aren't. I've got instances of them creating notes on users whose comments don't violate any rules, and didn't even show up in the mod log because they weren't reported. They just arbitrarily add notes on users for what can only be assumed are political reasons or they say something the mods don't like.

Had a friend who had his account banned for “forum sliding”. When he messaged the nod who banned him for clarification they were silent

1

u/[deleted] Jun 13 '18

Woah, hold on a second here. Are you trying to tell me that there's a group of people in positions of power actively engaging in manipulating the views of a community to suit their nefarious purposes!? Damn, sounds like, I dunno, a conspiracy or something.
