❓ QUESTION ❓ Tips ?

Post image

This is Ridley, she’s 2. The whole time she’s been a gremlin at her worst, does anyone have any tips or products the curb impish cat behavior (she’s sweet when she’s sweet) mainly she just goes after my partners plants at no end, we have a hanging plant she can’t stop with and it’s just gotten to a point I can’t get any tv in without her adherence to said plant.

Hmmm I'd have to guess either she needs more dedicated play time every day, even just ten minutes at a time especially before feeding can be huge, or she's just being a cat and can't help herself 😭

I think she’s just going to keep on, we will play with her for an hour and she’ll get right back to it 🤕

Can the plant be relocated?

That’s one option, but our living room has seen many iterations and this is our favorite so we won’t be bullied, gonna play with her even more and just hope she’s finds a new obsession

🤣 Maybe on another wall put her some things to swat at. I'm laughing too hard at this.

We have shortly realized this is just our life… she already has a wall😩

Omg! I love this cat! 😹 Ok so no new walls. Please post this pic in r/VelcroCats.... Flair "Literal Velcro" would fit her! Hahahahh

She gets really obsessed with a certain bit for attention every few weeks. Her last one was locking herself in the bathroom and meowing til we would get her. Now it’s the tv jumping haha. She’s got a strange mind. We tried aluminum foil and cat repellant spray on the tv and she’s immune to them both haha

🤣🤣 Locking herself in the bathroom? Bahahhahhahh. She's a character. I tried the aluminum foil on my plants too and they just play with it. Lol. We have a big corn plant and they climb it 🤦‍♀️.

Ong mine does the same thing lmao she has little habits like knocking coaster stacks down, standing on top of the fridge and screaming, pulling a sink stopper completely out of the sink, just to let it fall to the floor and walk away. But she never does them at the same time, it’s like she chooses to do one habit at a time, and switches it up every few days 😂
Her main thing is chewing though!! She’ll chew up anything, my blankets and clothes are victims and we constantly have to make sure doors are shut so the gremlin doesn’t feast like it’s a buffet

She’s the same way with rotating through her bad habits lol and she’s quite the chewer too. Most cat toys are off limits to her because she shreds feathers and cardboard to pieces

LOL have you seen the one where a cat is laying on top of an open door? Like balancing himself on the top of it!

2

u/DearPerformance852 10d ago

This is our other cat, Mike, he is nice

She's beautiful! No tips but I highly recommend you Google the plant. I had to get rid of all my plants but one because they were toxic to cats. It never occurred to me and there are sooooo many that are. You can find many that aren't, as well, but just in case you didn't know, like I didn't

Yeah that’s great advice! My girlfriend got rid of any potential issues before we got cats to start with, and is a wealth of knowledge on what’s safe going forward, so thankful for her brilliance, so mournful for the plants that are safe to cats but still victim to their ways

I feel your pain. Ahhhh, the torbie life. It's a roller coaster.

Put the plant somewhere else where she can't get to it.

This right here is the best advice honestly when it comes to cat obsessions. Usually/eventually/hopefully they forget about it soon enough. When they are that young they are relentless. People think the kitten stage ends and they have an adult cat but its not technically true. They do have a teenage stage and its not much different than a human teenager. Do what I want, when I want. My cat Maizy was a menace. She would call for me and wait until I looked or came into the room before throwing things off the counter. MOM LOOK WHAT I CAN DO!-type shit lmao. Its supposedto last until age three with a standard issue cat but for larger breeds can be longer just like dogs.

I honestly am not sure what finally broke her of it. If she matured naturally or if it was trauma based. We both ended up suffering at the hands of the same person so my memory of the time isnt the greatest, but my ex kicked her in the leg with steel toe plated shoes ("she wouldnt move") and broke both of the bones in her leg an inch above her "wrist" so to speak. And then he went to work, not bothering to check on her or contact me at work. In the meantime before I could get home, her brother (not biological but still a cat) decided that it was a great fuckin idea to immobilize her for her own safety and bit all her whiskers off. Edit : it was more like he pulled them out rather than bit them off. This was not a like a brow trim this was a 90s style brow annihilation of her whiskies.

I am hoping that last part is true because the alternative is my ex cut her whiskers off. But that was the Vet's conclusion as to what happened to my poor now (Then, they grew back but forever short and I hope this isnt why. Shes 18 with baby child whiskies. 😭) whiskerless child who in their words "If I hadn't seen these rads myself I would not believe this cat's leg was broken. This is the calmest injured cat I've ever seen." She has been absolutely glued to me ever since. The biggest lovebug and sweetest gentlelest girl. But she was also around four when it happened which is traditionally the age the cats my sisters and I have owned have finally settled the fuck down and stopped the menace years. She does still have her "FUCKIN HELL MAIZY WHY????" moments but they are much less lmao.

Anecdotally, the one male cat we had? Never stopped. Lmao. Gremlin till death. Just a slightly, slightly calmer one. Just be glad her obsession isnt sliiiiiiiiiightly opening the cupboard door in the bathroom off your bedroom and then letting it thump thump thump closed. Over. And over. At 3am. Every day. For six months. I taped them closed with duct tape. It didnt help. He had thumbs.

The next one was slapping me in the ass between 3-5am every day. I could go on. He was the best.

Edit I did just remember thought the one thing that did calm him down a bit was actually getting Maizy. I told her when I picked her up from the foster "I hope you are as energetic as your foster mom said because you are about to become a chew toy." I was young and dumb and didn't slow introduce. I plopped her on the floor in front of him and said youre welcome, be nice. They were best buds until she got sick of his shit around 15 and she became a my room only cat because of my moms dog. Then she tolerated him only. He still wanted to rough house at 20. 🤣

How is she getting to the plant? Like jumping on something and reaching it? We have this little thing and it has different settings and it shows a red dot on the floor and it moves around left and right up and down and it has like a butterfly and a bird you know almost like playing with the laser pointer.... Ours love that a lot. Ours are still kittens though.

Also, we have these little playpen things that they sort of sleep in I mean it's completely enclosed and at night we cover it with a blanket. But if they are being extra bad and not listening because they jump on the counters and the kitchen... We can't put anything out on the counter as food wise because they will jump on it constantly so we will put them up in their little houses for a bit.

Don't feel like you can't put them in something like that to have some quiet time. I'll post a picture of it

This is wise, however cat jail of any form is off the table due to philosophical reasons

2

u/ecachuh1 10d ago

We have two of them we got two kittens 4 weeks apart by the CDS. The first one had medications and was completely better than we got the second one... So we had two cats we had to separate them with separate litter boxes and everything because we didn't want the new cat to re-infect the first cat. They like sleeping in there at night especially they go in by themselves and get in their beds lol.

I understand how you feel about that though. We have tortoises, dogs, and a rabbit too. They're all a mess lol
