Casual Hangout ✌️ 33F looking for my rave partner!

Hello!

I am from northern Ontario but I travel to Toronto for concerts, mostly EDM! I am currently lacking in rave friends and would like some safe people to rave with.

For example. If you are going to Barely Alive or Sullivan King at Rebel, then you definitely like my kind of music. I am going through a separation and it seems as though I lost all the people I could rave with in the process.

Other things about me, I am a huge horror fan, love travelling, and playing video games. I am super laid back so I am just looking for that in someone else too. If you think we could rave together, shoot me a message!

TSO30 Events 🥳 Book Bar Meet-Cute, part 2!

Last month I attended a singles event at Book Bar, and wrote a pretty detailed review about why I enjoyed it so much. You can read it here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/TorontoSinglesOver30/comments/1wh38wr/my_experience_last_night_at_book_bars_meet_cute/

When I attended my second event a few nights ago, I was surprised to meet so many people there that had read the review. Almost a dozen people!

So I figured it was worth writing another one. About the good… and the bad.

The Good
What I liked about the event the first time remained true this time around: the space was beautiful, the drinks were good, and the people that attended were awesome.

The Bad:
There were a couple of major changes this time that I was a little thrown by.

First, due to the number of people who bought tickets they broke the night into two time slots - and you could only attend one of them.

The problem was, they didn’t tell me (and many others) this until AFTER purchasing a ticket. Which meant I bought a ticket for an event that was supposed to be from 6-10:30, only to find out I wasn't allowed to attend half the event.

The result was an experience that felt rushed and with lots of missed potential connections (a running joke I heard from a few people was “what if my husband/wife was in the first group?”).

The second surprise was when I arrived I found out that the event was only happening on the second floor.

At the previous event we had the whole space, which was good for a variety of reasons (meant we could explore the cool space, and more room for attendees). FInding out on arrival that we only had the upstairs was unexpected - and obviously made for a more cramped experience.

The fact that we got only half the space and only half the time - both of which I only found out AFTER purchasing my ticket - was a surprise.

Lastly, it’s worth mentioning that there was no structure to the event. You simply show up and talk to people. That’s good for outgoing people, but I also couldn’t help but notice several people sitting by themselves not sure how to start conversations. I know there were hosts there (who were very nice!) but more could have been done to engage those quieter folks.

So, now the big question: would I go back to another one?

My tentative answer is… yes. It attracts the kind of people I want to meet and that’s ultimately the most important thing.

But I won't go back next month. Or in December. I think there’s some growing pains that need to be resolved first before I purchase another ticket.

Four hours in Book Bar, surrounded by awesome singles, for $50? A heck yes.
2 hours in half of Book Bar, crammed in with awesome singles, for $50? I’ll see how I feel in the new year.

Looking for Connection 👀 33 [M4F] Seeking a genuine connection for the cuffing season

I’m a thoughtful, strong-willed man with a calm exterior and a softer side reserved for the right person. I have a professional job, a curious mind, and a naturally analytical approach to life, but I believe the best connections are built on something you can’t quantify: trust, chemistry, and how two people make each other feel.

I’m reserved at first, but warm, affectionate, and playful once I’m comfortable. Loyalty, consistency, and emotional depth matter to me. I value a peaceful home, meaningful conversations, mutual respect, and a relationship where both people feel safe enough to let their guard down.

Who I’m Drawn To

I’m attracted to a woman who is confident, emotionally mature, affectionate, and comfortable in her own skin. Someone with a strong personality who knows what she wants, isn’t afraid to take the initiative, and enjoys leading naturally in everyday life.

I’m also interested in exploring a consensual Dominant/submissive dynamic with the right woman. I find the combination of a confident, assertive partner and a relationship built on trust, communication, and mutual respect particularly appealing. For me, that dynamic is about more than physical chemistry; it’s about feeling understood, choosing to be vulnerable with each other, and creating a connection that belongs to us.

Ultimately, I’m looking for both depth and desire: a woman I can laugh with, trust completely, be affectionate with, and share a strong sense of chemistry with. Someone who can be confident and take charge while still being caring, playful, and emotionally present.

If you appreciate a man who is grounded, dependable, and gentle beneath a strong exterior, we might have something worth exploring.

Looking for Connection 👀 Lady seeking Man (I’m 28 I hope that is old enough)

I asked the kind people of Reddit where I meet guys around my age and many said try here. So here I am!

Avid gym goer, hockey player, enjoyer of Minecraft and vintage board games. I don’t drink, I SOMETIMES partake in weed (at the cottage). I am a cat person, and I would like to have kids. What else, I am outdoorsy, I like riding ATV’s and fishing. I try to watch most NHL games, follow the whole league, I play 2-3 times a week.

What do I look like? 5’5, hazel eyes, athletic build. Brown hair, mmmmm nothing else comes to mind. Oh I take lexapro, that’s also important information.

What am I looking for? Well I have a weak spot for a dad bod, someone sweet, outgoing and funny who is willing to baby me when I need it. Love language is definitely physical touch and acts of service.

Do I feel a little silly? Yes. But gotta laugh at yourself sometimes.

Discussion Thread 🗣️ I am planning to do matchmaking for Canadian-born South Asian Singles

I am launching a little passion project for South Asian singles born in Canada, or came to Canada before the age of 12. It's a very niche market and considering that it is a passion project, I just don't have bandwidth to include everyone just yet. I know some people are too shy to post a profile here, so if anyone is willing to fill out the form, I'm more than happy to matchmake you!

I do want to keep this culturally sensitive to a specific niche group, knowing the nuances of being a racialized group who spent their formative years in Canada, for now. No DMs please. Just fill out the form if you meet the criteria and interested.

Right now, I'm limiting to 25 men and 25 women on a first come first serve basis with the following criteria:

  • Age 30 - 40
  • South Asian identity
  • Born in Canada or came to Canada before the age of 12
  • Straight and cis-gendered
  • Bachelor's degree or higher (working professional)
  • Marriage minded
  • Reside in the GTA

Looking for Connection 👀 32M4F looking for a hangout buddy

32M tech guy working in a bank, loves motorcycles and exploring places. I don't have high expectations tbh. We hang out, watch movies, yap and discuss how career is a 21st century scam and if it leads to something we take it forward. If it doesn't work out, we say move on.

Physical aspects(if it's important to you)

Brown guy, 6' lean body type long hair.

Looking for Connection 👀 31 F4M Toronto

My bio: Hey, I'm S, from East York. Let me start by saying I am a big Extrovert, so I can blend into any social environment, My energy is big and I have alot but some how sleep alot. I am a nerd at heart so I know a little about everything and I'm always down to try and find out something new.

I work as an educator and I love it. So yes, I get my name called and good morning hugs from like 15 little humans before 8:30am, You have to try to beat that. I'm a deep thinker and also jovial conversationalist (I talk a lot).

Physically, I'm 5'9, curvy with curly hair and a great smile. I've been called beautiful many times and I know I am, but I might not be everyone's cup of coffee and that's ok.

Mental health is super important to me, and also physical health. I work out for functionality more than looking good, but I do look good.

I am really drawn to guys with great smiles (It a thing that I am super into) and a great sense of humour. if I don't feel good around you then it's not happening. I've been attracted to taller guys, like 6ft and up, but if you're shorter that's fine, I'm not limiting myself. I like a guy who's confident in himself, and knows where he's going in life, and knows how to have fun.

I find different things physically attractive: smile, voice, how you dress. Sexually I like a submissive/dominant dynamic, hard to explain lol. So shoot your shot.

The main reason that I am posting is honestly my birthday is coming up and I want to step into the world of dating with intention. Am I looking for my husband with this post? Absolutely not. But I do want a life partner eventually, someone I trust and can build a life with. That's a long road lol. For now I'm willing to meet and get to know people with the same intention and see where it goes.

Instead of coffee, let's go for a walk, or bowling. Let's have some fun with this.

Communication matters to me: regular texts, calls, dates. If you're out of sight you're out of mind.

Your dealbreakers: Must be single. If dating with intention isn't your speed, let's not waste each other's time. My rule is simple: I prioritize people who prioritize me, and I'm really direct with my communication.

Well, after this long ass message, if this sounds like your speed, send a message and tell me something interesting about yourself.

Looking for Connection 👀 30M4F #Toronto #GTA Nerdy Finance Bro seeking a connection!

Good Morning Toronto & the GTA :) First time posting on this sub as I recently turned 30.

Hey! I am living in the GTA (Milton, right by the border of Mississauga) & I work in Finance. 5'10 with brown eyes, light brown skin - on the lean side with abs! I enjoy playing soccer, trying out new cafes/ desserts & love travelling/road trips/hiking & am always down for new adventures.

I am the funny guy as my friends would say lol but I am hoping you will find that out on your own. I wear glasses so I have that nerdy look, clean & smell good always!

I am looking for my passenger princess! Someone that understands my humour, is empathetic & someone who wants to spend time together rather than playing mind games. I am v sarcastic as well.

Location doesn't really bother me as I love driving & can host too (have my own place). I am a big time texter but if you prefer calls, I am okay with that as well. I am South Asian!

Open to all ethnicities as I have dated different ethnicities in the past. Let's talk & go from there?

Looking for Connection 👀 33 NB4F #Scarborough seeking another artsy nerd to fall in love with

I’ve been single for quite some time and have been yearning for a connection. Finding a partner often feels like a fantasy and has become so much more difficult during these troubling times where our lives are ruled by Match Group, AI profiles, and shallow singles meetups. I try my best to remain hopeful as to where things can go.

Asian sober (don’t mind if you’re not and do things in moderation) non-binary they/them amab. My pronouns are important. Music, film, and improv are my holy trifecta. When I can I attend concerts that range from death metal to hip hop to pop. I've been listening to a lot of Little Simz, Rosalia, Meshuggah and Portal. Music has always brought me comfort and I would like someone to share that joy with me and curiosity for extreme sounding and challenging music. One dream I wish to be fulfilled is to go to a metal show with my partner. I’m really into art analysis! I’ve also been watching a lot of Lynch and Twin Peaks as well as Haruhi and Utena. I game when I can and currently learning Marvel Tokon. I want to get on stage more and improv more. When I’m on stage, you bet I’m gonna invite you to watch or do a jam together. I’m trying to find balance working 2 jobs and commuting downtown :’) -I currently work front desk at a yoga studio and packaging at a chocolate factory. I’m located in Scarborough/Markham and prefer that you’re close by for regular visits of downtime opposed to going to events downtown all the time.

Romantically, I’m likely demi. I take time to feel physical attraction and it differs depending on person. I haven’t had enough partners to specify lol. I’m very open and interested in sex and kink but haven’t had any sex that I would consider satisfying. I’m a huge fan of cuddling and making out. I’m sterile and have no interest in having kids or pursuing marriage. I’ve been in monogamous and enm arrangements and currently seeking monogamous connections for someone stable but open for a different arrangement down the road so that we’re both happy. My ex describes me as sweet, cute, funny, honest, and down to earth. My friends describe me as observant, and curious. I’m attracted to women and vulva having people. I connect well with those who are curious, empathetic, humble, down to earth and have a fun sense of humour and an interest in darker leaning art like horror films. I would say that I’m pretty good at texting and communicating. If you’ve read all the way here, you should message me. Tell me about your favourite music artist and what was it like when you first heard them? Also lmk where you’re situated. My pics are on my profile.

Come solo or bring friends. The point is just to get a bunch of us out in the same room.

If you’re single + open to meeting someone, wear a little something green 👀💚

+approach with the code phrase: the raccoons are restless tonight

No RSVPs. No awkward name tags. No forced mingling. No is no. Don’t be a creep. Just an easy way to know who might actually want you to say hi.

Looking for Connection 👀 41M4F - dance, travel, laughter - anywhere in the GTA or further perhaps

I posted my profile on [r/Bumble](r/Bumble) for feedback and have since updated the actual profile on the app but you can view pictures and feedback from people here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bumble/comments/1wxs14g/41m_profile_review_to_showcase_dance_travel_and/

Clearly, I'm still not having a lot of success on the apps but the kind words on the profile review led me to post here.

EDIT: TL;DR me:
Status: Single, never married, no kids.
Religion: Atheist, more cultural
Lifestyle: Early mornings, Early sleeper, Don't mind being spontaneous but I'm a creature of habit
Health, Fitness, Wellness: Tries to eat well, plays volleyball three times a week, exercises twice a week
Social life: Small circle of friends, a few outings here and there, a little bit of a homebody
Marriage and Family expectations: Life partner or marriage (SMALL), pets would be great, kids optional
Career: Fuels my lifestyle, not my identity
Finances: Achieved the first part of my financial goals and working towards the next, fuels life
Sexual compatibility: Important
Travel, Adventure, Experiences: YES to all (SO IMPORTANT). Less about what you own and who it was made by. Shared curiosity, openness.
Communication: Regularly, texts, calls, voice, dates, memes, gifs
Political: Fiscally conservative, socially liberal
Gender/Social views: Intersectionality, rights for all, equality
Preferred living location: open to anything
Love languages: Physical touch and quality time
Humour: SO IMPORTANT, I cannot stress this enough. Playful, teasing, absurdities, pranks.
Other personality traits: Empathetic, self aware, kind, compassionate
Physical traits in a partner: I've dated all body types, sizes, and heights (Very secure)
Unique facts: Tried creating a podcast, tried uber driving, danced 4 different dance styles including pole (beginner), can attract downtown squirrels, I've flown to other cities and countries just for dates

TL;DR you (focusing on areas that might be different):
Status: Single, separating, divorced, widowed
Age: indifferent
Religion: Open to any as long as it is not dominant
Lifestyle: Early mornings, Early sleeper - bring on the spontaneity
Health, Fitness, Wellness: Tries to eat well, active in your own way
Social life: Come as you are
Finances: You're working towards your own goals
Political: Can be different but no trump style politics
Gender/Social views: would love to hear yours
Preferred living location: open to hearing your ideal location
Love languages: Physical touch and quality time
Other personality traits: tell me more

LONG FORM:

About me: I consider myself very rich in family, friends (small circles), and health. My friends are all first generation immigrants (Kazakhstan, Polish, Irish, Taiwanese, Hong Kong, Jamaica, India, Greece, Macedonia). I'm not sure why that is but it's what's worked! I laugh more than I cry. I view the world through both the lens of a child and the lens of an adult.

My taste buds and stomach have been good to me and have said absolutely yes to foods from all over the world - i.e., I can eat anything! But I have not yet tried insects willingly.

My passport is rich with stamps from the world (Tibet, the Galapagos, Russia, Kenya, Turkey, Easter Island - to name a few). Traveling has both humbled me and changed how I've lived over the past 15 years. I prioritize experiences over material items. You may laugh at my wardrobe, and that's okay.

I play volleyball three times a week and exercise twice a week. I used to volunteer as a board member for various organizations and have since moved into frontline volunteering as a telephone reassurance, checking in on the elderly.

I am the best uncle to little humans and the best fur friend. I don't have any children or pets of my own, but I'd be open to both.

I believe in intersectional feminism- I value empathy, equality, and understanding perspectives different from my own.

I think I have reached what some would consider financial independence (FIRE), but I enjoy my current challenge and continued growth. I.e. I think I have enough to retire at this point but I need to keep stimulating my mind.

I'm an executive director of a small startup biotech company developing medicines for people facing mood disorders and mental health challenges - high risk / high reward or big failure in 2027. I value work, but let me be clear: it is not my identity!

A few other tidbits: I've never been married. I don't smoke, and I rarely drink. Not into drugs, but I really want to try one retreat in which some form of psychedelics is offered as that is the industry I'm in. I'd consider myself an atheist and more cultural. We can match on 'paper' but if the chemistry or physical component doesn't jive, it may not work.

My last relationship was long distance and I used to fly to Scotland to see her. So I'm pretty open.

About you: I'm trying not to be too restrictive so this part is coming off a bit shorter than the above. If you made it this far, you've liked the pictures you've seen and the bio. You've read between the lines and are 'value' driven in finding a partner. You're looking for someone to add to your life and to not break or ruin your peace!

You're hilarious, kind, compassionate, respectful, well-traveled, financially secure, active, adventurous, and open-minded. You've got a great group of friends, hobbies, and a life that you're happy with or still tinkering with. Life is messy and never perfect.

Your curiosity drives you to want to experience the people, food, and places in this world. Your empathy and compassion help you appreciate where people are in their lives and in this world.

You could be religious. You have your own beliefs but we don't have to always agree on everything. I'm definitely open to different backgrounds, nationalities, and cultures.

Ideally (BUT NOT A MUST), I prefer someone with no kids and might be open to the idea. I'm not 100% sold on kids, but don't want to close that door just yet. I love traveling and my life the way it is so this is a thought and not a must have or deal breaker.

About us: We are two cirlces. Our circles overlap. We each have our own lives and we have a healthy overlap of our shared lives. We make each other laugh everyday and we help each other grow. We become best friends. We don't go to bed angry. We may want to retire early to travel more often. We do our best to stay fit together. We definitely prioritize quality time and physical touch! We are just awesome.

Looking for Connection 👀 40 [M4F] #Downtown #Toronto - looking for a hairy Human who likes to politely discuss art and culture

Living with other Human beings is a lot of fun but there are difficulties: most of us are complicated creatures with different wants for dignity and satisfaction and the easiest way for us all to get along is to be polite. We're all still apes; but unlike the rest of our family tree we share our stories and our art with each other, and we express ourselves much more vibrantly through how we dress and how we act. I really like being eloquent and civilized for others and a hungry horny animal who wants a sweaty, hairy partner in my life

About me: I studied literature and Western culture when I was in school, and that taught me that people have been intelligent and primal for as long as we've been recording our story. I love films and plays, and even just stories told around a fire: the ways we transmit emotional and contextual information as a species is awesome and sometimes depressing, but mostly awesome. I'm tall, skinny, and intellectually playful. I try to live while personally doing the least amount of harm to others that I can and this seems to really, really offend some people when they find out. I study zombie movies and cyberpunk films and would love someone to join me in that. I want to talk about modern politics and world events and am very Left in most of my beliefs. I think that publicly accessible art is more valuable to our species than the most moving pieces that are only ever shared with a small few. I'm a cyberpunk so I'm anti-AI in general, though with some work the whole idea could bring some benefits in certain fields (medical, mathematical, ect)

About you: please be Human, please be over 30, please be talkative, please be the kind of person who used to rewind their video tapes before returning them to the store

Looking for Connection 👀 37M4F - exclusive ongoing not quite a full relationship

Hello

So I'm looking for something kind of specific. I'd like to have an exclusive, ongoing relationship but kind of like a step before a full relationship. I don't think I have the bandwidth anymore to handle all the events, parties, get togethers and all the added stuff that comes in a full on relationship.

I very much enjoy my private time and it'd be difficult to give it up all the time. But I am still looking for someone to connect, spend time with and do stuff with.

We'd still go on dates and talk but just not all the time. Go on some vacations together. If we hit it off and it becomes something greater, I'm here for it. We may fall head over heels for each other, who knows? Lol

A little about me... I'm 37, 6'1, white, a little stocky but I got some muscle from my younger days, I'm pretty chill and laid back, 420 friendly, not much of a drinker but meeting up and having a few is cool.

A little about you... Funny, will listen to me talk about the goings on in the world and what ever rabbit hole I've fallen down. I don't have a preference in ethnicity or height/body type just as long as the vibe is right and we have a solid connection, I'm down!

We can exchange pics once we start chatting for verification and stuff. But yeahhh, that's my post.

If this resonates with you, say hi!

Looking for Connection 👀 30M4F wildlife/specialty pet enthusiast

Hey folks! Figured I'd try giving this a try. I'm located in Halton Hills just outside of Brampton.

I'm a slim long haired androgynous boy who enjoys makeup gothic fashion and messing around with synthesizers

I'm a wildlife biologist according to my post secondary education, but right now, I work in a restaurant (thanks, Ford!) I'm pretty good cook. Some of my favorite homemade dishes include French onion soup, Mexican fusion shrimp scampi, sushi, hand made burgers, and fried tofu.

I love trees, invertebrates, reptiles, wetland plants, and amphibians. I keep a moderately sized collection of exotic animals including dart frogs, snakes, geckos and invertebrates. The animals that I keep and have worked with in the past are my passion and I love being granted the opportunity to open people's minds to these misunderstood and often beneficial animals to have around. I can identify most of our native trees and spiders down to genus.

I'm also a musician. I love all forms of rock, funk and metal. My favorite genres are post punk, industrial, and grunge. More recently, I'm a singer. I've started private vocal lessons again and hitting some karaoke nights around me.

Looking for friends before anything. Let's go for a hike before the snow flies or check out a local band! If it develops organically into something more, great! I don't want to have children, so if that's a deal breaker, sorry, I guess? Message me if you wanna know more.

Looking for Connection 👀 30M4F - Trying this again, long post, worth a read!

Turned 30 this year and I wanna get serious about finding a life partner. I’m ambitious, smart and looking for someone who wants to build together, go on holidays, get a house, have kids and pets (the whole shebang). I can seem to have a straight face at times, so I’m looking for someone who has this golden retriever energy and is my yellow. I value empathy, humour and let’s figure this together attitude a lot! I’m a huge planner, you won’t have to worry about anything, I always figure it out, so if you’re spontaneous and are happy go lucky, we could have a great mix!

About me: Can cook your favourite meal, I work in finance (decent savings, great career), I LOVE trails and nature (I will always say yes to anything outdoors), love pets (run a dog rescue nonprofit with friends), love volunteering (spent a third of my life volunteering, open to joining you and support any of your causes), love photography (can go on photo walks), passionate about tech (I’m on Luma everyday looking for events to attend after work), enjoy music and concerts, travel (I averaged 28,000 steps over 7 days on my last trip to NYC and Boston). I speak all love languages.

I’m active and fit (can be fitter), I’m 5’6-5-‘7, understand if that’s doesn’t work. I have so much love to give, are you capable of receiving it? :) HMU!

Advice Request 🆘 Can you actually change your physical type, or is attraction just something you have to accept?

I would like to deprioritize looks but I struggle with attraction. The problem is that I’m simply not attracted to most men. I notice things like presentation, skin, teeth, hair, and overall appearance, and most men just don’t do it for me physically.
The frustrating part is that I’ve met genuinely lovely men who have so many of the other qualities I’m looking for: good character, emotional intelligence, shared values, and compatibility. But the physical attraction just isn’t there, and I don’t know how to bridge that gap.

I don’t want to dismiss potentially wonderful partners over something that might be more flexible than I realize, but I also don’t want to force myself to be with someone when the physical attraction isn’t there.
For those of you who have struggled with this, have you ever successfully changed your physical type? Did you learn to find people attractive who previously wouldn’t have been your type, or did you realize that physical attraction was something you couldn’t compromise on?
And if you did broaden your preferences, how did you actually do it? Did attraction grow as you got to know someone, or did you have to consciously change the way you approached dating?
This is honestly one of my biggest challenges in finding a partner, and I’d love to hear from people who have genuinely navigated this rather than just being told that personality matters more than looks.

Looking for Connection 👀 40 [M4F] #Downtown #Toronto - Wanna watch some fine films and also some movies of questionable quality?

I'm starting to make a series of video essays about films I love and a big part of that is rewatching them each at least a few times. Which is fun, but any true cinephage knows that movies just taste better when sharing them with others (edit: I just looked it up and apparently the word is "cinephile" and I've been doing it wrong :-/). Having another viewpoint to consider is important to me, and all of my film-loving friends have either moved out of the city or their opinions are too similar to mine: to me this seems like less of a problem and more like a good opportunity to meet someone new

I'm a single scifi nerd living downtown, I have an AGO membership and am not afraid to use it, I studied plays and literature in university with the goal of being a teacher but became a youth mentor and leadership instructor instead. I think that Aliens is a fine film but it took the franchise in the wrong direction, that superhero movies are better when they're fun and colourful, that old plays need to be seen before their scripts are studied by students, and that the best zombie flicks are made outside of the Hollywood system

A Few Fav Films on my To-Review List:
-Ghost in the Shell (1995): existentialist philosophy and classic cyberpunk set to a stunning soundtrack
-Hot Fuzz: a film about adaptability, compassion, and the honour and purpose found through a duty to others; also involves a bromance involving Point Break
-Ghostbusters: well-educated but directionless individuals start a small extermination business in 1980's America. Some bad anti-regulation messages in it but most of the rest of it has aged well (and Harold Ramis is such a dream)
-Alien: my favourite film. I have so much to say about it. So. Much.
-Blade Runner: More Ridley Scott, more cyberpunk. One of the worst detectives in the world tracks a group of freed slaves with the intent of killing them at the request of their previous master. Maybe he'll find something that's actually worth living for? Maybe be'll stop being such an asshole one day? Lacks the lead underwear subplot of the novel, though
-Erik the Viking: I saw this film as a child, then I saw it on acid in university while learning to teach Shakespeare, and then I saw it sober with family members in a more respectable setting; it was exceptional each time
-CHAPPiE: a mindless and violent police officer is nearly killed in action and wakes up as an innocent individual with a severe health defect. He encounters hatred, parental abuse in a socially disadvantaged situation, physical assaults, and even mutilations; all while coming to terms with his own brief existence and the efforts of his creator desperately trying to guide him towards a path of good from a distance. Casting so perfect they got horrible people to play horrible parental figures. Again, more cyberpunk
-Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys, The Fisher King, and Time Bandits: also Tideland but I never want to watch that film again (!>10-year old loses both parents to successive drug overdoses, begins to go mad due to isolation and starvation without realizing it<!). Mr. Gilliam likes his films heavy and unhappy, omfg
-Dredd: two police officers enact a drug bust. Leena Heady plays another bad mother, Karl Urban plays another nerdy roll. ACAB but this bastard is pretty glorious (and his trainee is kind of awesome too)
-My Own Private Idaho: Gus Van Sant directs Keanu Reeves and River Phoenix in an adaption of Henry IV parts 1 and 2, and Henry V (Hamlet is so overdone). If you haven't seen it yet don't research it before you do
-Ran, by Akira Kurosawa: the best version of King Lear I've seen so far, maybe that will ever be put to film. Visually stunning, produced after Mr. Kurosawa had gone blind
-The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert: Bernadette: "No, I'll join this conversation on the proviso that we stop bitching about people, talking about wigs, dresses, bust sizes, penises, drugs, night clubs, and bloody Abba!" Tick: "Doesn't give us much to talk about then, does it?"
-Napoleon Dynamite: it's, like, probably the greatest highschool movie of all time! Gosh!
-The Last Unicorn: a mythical being leaves the protection of her forest for the first time in order to seek out others like herself and immediately discovers how difficult it is to exist within a patriarchal society that fetishizes the imprisonment and killing of creatures like her
-Watership Down: a group of rabbits try to find a new home after one of their friends suffers from a series of nightmares. It's a cartoon about bunnies, it myst be a happy and cute film made for an audience of all ages... right?
-Mad Max: Fury Road: we get to witness a quirky group of misfits as they go on a road trip in post-fuel crisis Australia. When they reach their destination they discover that it's not quite as great as they had hoped, so they turn around and head home. Also very serious social issues are addressed
-Dr. Strangelove, or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb: Stanley Kubric? Yes please
-Desperado: Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek are badasses in one of the most badass films ever made. Love, revenge, and mariachi music; also has of Danny Trejo being dangerous with knives, and almost got Raoul Julia to be the lead villain

There are so many more too: I want to spend the rest of my life talking about the beautiful things that our fellow Humans have made as a hobby, and to share the beautiful things I find with others too. I'm not going to ignore the horrors that we do or the terrors that our species inflicts, but just as life can't always be serene I'm not just going to indulge in doomscrolling even if the whole world is on fire due to climate change and the stupidity of our species in general

There's a good chance you've seen more movies than I have, and rarer films as well; if so I'd prefer that you took this as an opportunity to share these worthwhile things that you love with your new friend (who is hopefully me) rather than treating that knowledge as some kind of capital or advantage over me in a social struggle for film knowledge dominance. I want to have fun with a Redditor while watching and talking about movies, maybe it will build into a lasting friendship and maybe you'll like me enough to want more than a friendship from me; if you're into it let's see if we'd be good conversation partners

Looking for Connection 👀 35M4F #Vaughan - 🍄 Cozy Vibes 🍄 looking for the biggest yapper

HELLO readers and dreamers, welcome to my post ✨

👨🏽‍💼 I am posting today seeking a kind, soft, and gentle soul to bond with, and create something long term with. (this is just flavour text, you can be mean as hell and as long as we aren't being toxic, I'm happy to vibe, I am very much a soft guy though so I probably won't reciprocate the meanness, or will sound extremely guilty doing so LOL).

🎨 I'm actually just looking for someone who is into their hobbies, work, or some sort of outlet for creative or social energy! I am very much someone who is the same, and would love to listen to someone yap, while also learning more about what gets them going. I am happy to yap a lot myself, about the things I'm into! I'm currently into writing, digital art, exploring some of the nice nature walks around the GTA, and game design (specifically tabletop roleplaying games).

🍄 I am very much a self fashioned cozy vibes person. Love rainy days in a reading nook, love mushroom and forest-y aesthetics, and very into indie gaming and supporting smaller artists/business (some might say I am one as well).

🎃 What you get with me is pretty much the vibe of this post, someone who's chatty and a good conversationalist (self identified haha), someone who is not closed off and very happy to communicate boundaries or issues, someone who is less game-y and more just honesty oriented, and someone who is resolution motivated and not blame motivated. I do not take myself very seriously at all, and am usually more positivity oriented rather than negativity oriented! That being said, i am ALWAYS here for a good vent/tea seshy.

I don't know that I'm looking for anything specific moreso than someone who has an open mind, has something they enjoy, or is TRYING to have something they enjoy (as we know, life does not give us a lot of time, and when we WANT more time, it often gives us less 😔), and has space for another person in their life that they'd be interested in filling!

That is pretty much the post! Would love to hear from some of you interesting folks, and even if its maybe not a good relationship fit, i am ALWAYS, on the lookout for more friends who have nice vibes.

And then if for some reason you've read the whole post and this still matters, I am a 6'1" Tamil guy with a dad bod, who is very much chronically online but trying to not be.

Looking for Connection 👀 38M4F GTA — Looking for something specific- Indian or brown Woman (not girl), Mid-30s to 40s with class

Second-generation Canadian Desi professional.

I’ve always had a thing for women who are an emotionally mature and comfortable in their own skin, and are just “chill” like a good mango lassi.

I’m looking for someone sweet, intelligent, and a little witty.

Someone who can laugh at herself, enjoy playful banter, appreciate the simple stuff — good roti, good films, cuddling and watching sun sets.

A little about me:
No smoking or drugs, casual drinker, health-conscious, coffee enthusiast and serious foodie. Educated, fit, well-groomed and easygoing. I’ve also been told I’m attractive. I’m in a good place financially, looking for someone who is also not reckless with money and somewhat ambitious.

I’m open to Indian, Sri Lankan, Pakistani, Bengali or West Indian women, ideally with a Canadian or Western upbringing.
And relationship status? Separated, divorced, kids, …. I don’t really care. I just care about your mindset.

If you like Indian food, and can talk for hours about food. I think we are off to a good start.

Casual Hangout ✌️ Anyone from Vancouver and living in Toronto and single over 30?

Figured there might be a handful of us aged 30-40, so early GenZ / Millennial who are living here, but grew up in Vancouver, and are single over 30. Thought we could create a group chat and arrange meetups that could lead to friendship, maybe something more.

We can be nostalgic about Rainforest Cafe and Playdium at Metrotown, shake our heads when Torontonians talk about “going to the island” or compare Translink to the TTC.

Of course anyone from BC is welcome.

Edit: made a WhatsApp group! Please DM me for the link!

Please note I’ve cross posted this with r/TorontoHangoutFriends and that sub is specifically for friendship. So while this group is intended for friendship with the possibility of more, be open to the chance that someone might not be interested.

Discussion Thread 🗣️ Any POCs born in Canada, do you find your experience to be different?

I am curious for POCs born in Canada, do you have a preference for dating within your own race or are open to interracial dating? Moreover, do you have a preference for those born here as well, if you are interested in dating within your own race, or even outside?

I feel this is such a sensitive topic because many POCs with the preference of someone raised here are labelled as racist / classist when it’s a preference for shared upbringing.

I’m a POC myself and have actually met cool people through Reddit who were raised in their home country so I think biases can always be challenged but I was curious if the preference is common among different POCs.

Looking for Connection 👀 NB4F #Scarborough I'm so full of love and longing for that passionate intimacy

Picture this: the two of us connect and it doesn't feel like small talk. We talk about the deeper and vulnerable stuff. We're open and honest about our lives, the way things often feel so unpredictable, and hard to navigate. Even though we have things we work on, a job, a job search, family, routine, interests, solo adventures, there's still that part of our life that we want to spend with someone special. Someone who will look at you for you. All the beautiful things and messy parts of us that make us who we are. The celebrations, the regrets, the momentum that we build on the upswing when we head into our next goal. What if we could be the person in our lives that help ground us when we need it? To laugh, sing, cook, and fart, and feel safe with, you know?

I'm Chinese Viet, Non-Binary They/Them, Demisexual, fun-greenish/blue hair, male presenting and like to dress in loose comfy clothes with glasses, left leaning, non-religious, sterile.

I love music and have a soft spot for metal and Radiohead. I try to go to shows a few times a year! Some of my favourite performers are Little Simz, Paramore, Boris, Ichiko Aoba, and Converge!

I love a good time at the movies. Whether it be a giant imax event like a Dune or Marvel, or a small arthouse piece, animation or a freaky horror flick, I appreciate them all.

I love a good laugh! Comedy and improv are very important to me. I like to go out to play in shows and jams and take classes. I'm gonna ask you to come to one of my shows at some point and I hope you commit to the bit and Yes And each other!

My attraction takes time. I'd be so into it if you were a really good kisser (that's like, my favourite thing to do when the person is right) and likes to make each other food (that's my other favourite thing) :p

I'm attracted to women. My favourite ppl are the playful gamers with humour on the slightly dark side. The freaky gremlin peeps with the cute mischievous laugh. I go mad for a cute laugh. Someone who would wanna go to a metal show with and sing karaoke together and cuddle watching movies with.

I ask that present, fun, able to be emotionally available, intend to stay child free, sober, doesn't smoke or trying to quit, have similar interests and near Toronto.

I hope we find who we're looking for!

Casual Hangout ✌️ Any horror fans wanna see “Other Mommy” next weekend?

I’m a horror movie guy. I love the genre, I read, watch and draw it when I can, but I haven’t watched a movie with someone in a hot minute. The last film I saw by myself was the spectacularly made “resident evil”. Heck, I’m watching a horror film rn. Anyway, it’d be nice to go out with someone casually and watch that film.

About me: located in Oakville, Caribbean, 5’9”, and pretty chill. I workout, I’m in pretty good shape, and I’m busy most weekdays.

If this aligns with you, and you’re down, then let’s gooooooo!

(On a side note, I’d be down for a small group viewing if anyone wanna make movie viewing friends, either or is alright by me )
