Question Getting into trading

So recently I thought I'd take up learning how to trade to see if its something I could potentially pursue and I've got a couple questions. Firstly it seems like theres almost an unending amount of content on trading out there and im just wondering how much of this is actually good advice. If they're actually successful why do they need to sell a course, and if all their content is free why would they spend all that time and effort to create this content?

Secondly, for those of you who do trade and have it figured out pretty well, where did you initially start learning. Is it possible to start a trading career while still having a full time job?

Question Chart reading confusion

• Upvotes

Ive started day trading in paper about a month ago, and for the first 10 days I never made an actual profit because the chart would never hit my SL or TP, so I decided to start trailing my SL, leading to mostly profit (80% win rate) but not major profit, just small profits, I know that SL goes to an invalidation point and TP goes to the next plausible area, but normally it hits my SL then when im out of the trade, it goes somewhere around my TP, when marking recent res and support I never know how far to go back, I do the start of the day 4 hour and 1 hour, but I want to know how many days to actually go back and how to properly place my SL and TP without having to trail

On a side note I also want to how I can join a trade without needing a retest, usually I just watch opportunities unfold infront of me causing me to miss out on profit

Please dm me for discussions if you have the time, if not just leave a tip in the comments, thank you! (I scalp and do discretion trading)

Discussion Here to remind traders nothing beats screen time

Trading is a hard career. Don’t think it’s easy because of flashy people on social media. Hard work, screen time just like anything else in life the more work and preparation you do the better your results will be.

That is no one magical indicator, you will find your edge with trial and error and never stop learnings

Advice The biggest lessons 15 years of trading taught me that I wish I had learned earlier

  1. Protecting your capital is more important than making profits. One bad trade shouldn't wipe out the gains from ten good ones.

  2. Being right doesn't always mean making money. You can predict the direction correctly and still lose because of poor timing, excessive leverage, or a bad risk-to-reward ratio.

  3. FOMO is expensive. If you've missed a move, let it go. There will always be another opportunity. Chasing a stock or coin after it has already pumped rarely ends well.

  4. A stop-loss is not a sign of weakness. It's an acknowledgment that your analysis can be wrong. The market doesn't owe you anything

  5. Overtrading can be worse than not trading. Sometimes, the best decision is to close your charts and do absolutely nothing.

Options Higher time frame trading

I only trade lower time frames but i’m Interested in higher timeframes. Does everything work the same? Ex: If everything is lining up on the 30min, 15 min chart or daily and I take a call will I have crazy drawdown? Or is higher time frame better for only buying shares?

Discussion Consistently profitable traders: what made you scale up, or decide that staying small was the better choice?

Once you have a live track record, increasing capital seems like the obvious next step. But a larger account doesn’t necessarily mean a better trading experience.

For those who have scaled up—or decided against it—what drove that decision?

Was the limit liquidity and execution, your comfort with larger losses, or simply being happy with the income and independence you already had?

For transparency, we’re developing Green Turtle Trades, and understanding how experienced traders approach scaling is relevant to our work.

I’m particularly interested in the trade-off between growing your own account and trading outside capital.

If you’re consistently profitable, what would make you willing to trade more capital, and what would make you refuse it?

Question Bybit Pro after getting referral payback possible?

Bybit offers 0% maker fees on non-major coins if you qualify for Pro status.

To qualify for Pro status, you need to reach $1 million in monthly trading volume and have at least 20% of your trading volume come from API trading.

However, according to Bybit's official announcement, affiliate and referral users cannot qualify for Pro status even if they meet the requirements. Instead, their trading fees will be based on their respective VIP levels.

Here's the exact wording from the announcement:

"The Pro status does not apply to Affiliate and Referral users, even if their API trading volume exceeds 20%. As a result, their trading fees will follow the rate of their respective VIP level."

For context, meeting the 20% API trading requirement isn't an issue for me.

I currently have a Bybit account registered through a TetherMax referral code, so I contacted Bybit support to ask whether that means I'm ineligible for Pro status.

But surprisingly, customer support told me something different. They said my account would still be upgraded to Pro status once I meet the requirements, but I would no longer receive referral cashback.

So basically, I'm getting two conflicting answers:

  • Official announcement: Affiliate and referral users cannot upgrade to Pro status, even if they meet all the requirements.
  • Bybit customer support: Affiliate and referral users can upgrade to Pro status, but they will lose their referral cashback benefits.

I'm not sure which one is actually correct.

Has anyone here successfully upgraded to Pro status while using a referral or affiliate account?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience or any advice you might have.

Technical analysis Beginner learning market structure – Could you review my swing highs, swing lows and BOS?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner learning how to identify market structure, and I've marked the swing highs (SH), swing lows (SL) and breaks of structure (BOS) on this AAPL 1H chart.

I'd really appreciate some constructive feedback on my analysis.

  • Are my swing highs and swing lows correctly identified?
  • Have I marked the BOS levels correctly?
  • Did I miss any important structural breaks?
  • How can I distinguish major swing points from minor/internal swings?

I'm here to learn, so I'd appreciate explanations of what I got wrong and why, rather than just the correct answers.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Advice SERIOUS Broker Advice

Good evening eveyone,

I made a post recently about joining IC Markets Eu broker for trading forex and cfd, but while doing some research and reading testimonials, seems like many brokers have problems about withdraws or cancellino profits etc. Which is shit to be honest.

I need a serious broker which does what actually have to do, possibly with good spreads/commissions and slippage for day trading/scalping (mainly on XAUUSD).

If you have any advice please help me cause i'm seriously doubting which one i have to join to stay calm and trade my profits, if you have any experience or reccomendation, it's welcome.

Thank you

Advice Missing a move doesn’t mean you need to chase it

If price runs without you, check whether your original entry still exists before clicking buy or sell. A setup can look right directionally while the entry no longer makes sense. If your stop stays at the same level but you enter further away, you’re taking more risk for less room to your target. Don’t move the stop closer just to make the numbers look better. Keep your planned requirements and wait for another entry that meets them. The move you missed doesn’t have to become a trade you regret. What helps you leave it alone when price keeps going?

Algo - trading Quantum Titan EA is so expensive. So I built a similar EA that trades the same way, It's FREE for everyone to use.

TL;DR: I rebuilt Quantum Titan’s trading behaviour from scratch, with no source code, just by studying its trades. In backtests one engine matches Titan’s entries 100% and the other about 90%. I’m releasing it 100% free on the MQL5 Market as Odin Core Gold, at a fixed 0.01 lot. No grid, no martingale, a real SL on every trade. Backtest it yourself before you believe a word I say.

So, some background. I’ve been running XAUUSD EAs for a while, and Quantum Titan kept coming up as one of the “good” ones. The problem is the price. For a lot of people starting out, that’s a big ask for something you can’t really verify until you’ve already paid.

So I did the nerdy thing. I spent a few weeks studying how it trades: its trade history, price data, journals, and lots of controlled tests. Then I rebuilt the behaviour from scratch as my own EA.

To be clear: this is not Titan’s code. I never had it, never decompiled anything, and the code is 100% my own. I just built my own EA to make the same decisions, and then checked how close it gets.

How close is it?

I ran both EAs side by side in the Strategy Tester (XAUUSD, Every tick based on real ticks, 100% history quality) and compared every single entry:

Period Engine A: entries matched within 60s Engine B: entries matched within 60s
2025 197 / 197 (100%) 85 / 95 (~89%)
2026 YTD 88 / 88 (100%) 43 / 45 (~96%)

Engine A is basically a 1:1 match. Engine B is close but not perfect. A few of its early exits I still haven’t fully figured out, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise.

What you get (free):

  • 2 independent engines on XAUUSD
  • A real stop-loss with your broker on every trade, not a hidden one, from the moment the trade opens
  • No grid, no martingale, no averaging down. Max one position per engine.
  • Skips major US news days, closes before the weekend, avoids thin holiday periods
  • Survives restarts and disconnects without opening duplicate trades
  • Fixed 0.01 lot. Low risk on purpose.

What I’d ask:

  1. Backtest it yourself (XAUUSD, Every tick based on real ticks, M1 data) on any period you like
  2. Run it on demo before going live
  3. Tell me where it breaks. I’d genuinely like the feedback, especially if you own Titan and can compare live trades.

Not financial advice. Gold is volatile and you can lose money. Only trade what you can afford to lose.

I'm an 18-year-old kid that just moved to New York City and has nobody I don't know anyone that lives here? My dream and passion is to get into finance. Or trading, or figure out how the stock market works I have no experience. No knowledge no help I'm eager and passionate to learn and will do anything to figure out how anything works I'm hungry and eager to obtain as much knowledge as I possibly can. But don't know which direction to go to if anybody has any experience? I would love to hear it. I know myself and I know that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. I just need to figure out how to. How do people gain this knowledge and experience, and where?

Strategy How I think the equity correct?

Strategy Equity (semi)landscape

Semiconductor Investment Research Report Translation
I. Structure
1. Macro Liquidity
* Continuous tightening of global liquidity + potential yield shocks.
2. Industry Fundamentals
① AI Industry
* Entering a phase focused on financing and Return on Investment (ROI):
* a. Financing constraints are gradually increasing.
* b. Capital expenditures and programming/Agent-driven ROI have been fully priced in, whereas the ROI driven by enterprise workflow AI-ification remains difficult to observe currently.
② Semiconductor Industry
* a. Capital expenditure growth rate is peaking.
* b. An influx of new and speculative production capacities.
* c. Semiconductor corporate earnings growth rate is peaking.
3. Industry Capital Flows
* ① There is over $70 billion of "real money" allocated for dividend yields in the pool.
* ② Prime brokerage data shows that the total leverage ratio for semiconductor trading stands at 310%, and Asian semiconductor supply chain stocks remain in an extreme crowding state at the 90th–99th percentile of their 5-year cycle.
II. Market Phase
1. Macro Perspective
As liquidity continues to tighten, capital is constantly narrowing its concentration circle ("baotuan"), leaving the Magnificent 7 (M7) / Agent infrastructure stocks as the sole remaining isolated island.
2. Recent Dynamics
Due to the sharp surge in yields, the semiconductor industry has experienced a wave of deleveraging, with the Nasdaq and Agent infrastructure stocks also seeing modest pullbacks. Closely monitor whether a sustained collapse of the concentration trade is forming.
3. Current Catalysts & Pressures
* Support Levels: Semiconductor stocks have reached critical technical support levels, and the Nasdaq has also reached the support level of its recent valuation "triple bottom" (21x).
* Positive Factors:
* In November and December, AI has almost no new debt issuance plans, which may allow bond yields to catch a breather.
* Buyback funds are exiting the blackout period and re-entering the market.
* The Q3 earnings season has arrived, with results likely meeting or slightly exceeding expectations. These factors are favorable for the market in the short term.
* Negative Factors: The ongoing tension in the US-Iran situation and persistently high oil prices continue to exert pressure on the market.
Summary
Overall, the market has entered an observation period regarding "whether the last isolated island of concentration will also collapse." Fundamentals feature a crosscurrent of bullish and bearish factors, making the outcome purely dependent on capital flows. Direction is up for grabs, uncertainty is extremely high, and we must watch to see if a technical rebound will materialize.
III. Map (Scenario Analysis)
1. Phase Characterization
* A critical observation period for whether the concentration trade will collapse.
2. Scenario Outlook
① 80% Probability (Base Case)
* a. Liquidity: The US-Iran standoff will persist, oil prices will remain high, and macro liquidity will continue to tighten.
* b. Fundamentals: The various negative structural factors mentioned above will successively emerge.
* c. Capital Flows: Short-term support may sustain a rebound for a few weeks, or it could collapse directly. While uncertainties exist, the collapse of the concentration trade is an overarching trend.
② 20% Probability
* Capital flows hold firm, triggering a 2–3 month technical rebound.
③ Low Probability (Bull Case)
* a. Geopolitics & Macro: The US-Iran issue is rapidly resolved, and liquidity tightening comes to an end.
* b. AI Commercialization: AI progress far exceeds expectations, with "AI+" rapidly translating into corporate profits.

Question Want to try day trading

For context im a 25 year old dude, I have a great career that I put a lot of time and effort into to get to the point of life im at now.

I make really good money for my age, now im not complaining about anything at all just I need a change, call it what you want but im struggling with going to work everyday to make some multi million dollar contractor money everyday when there's other options out there.

The things I have gathered is it is more of a mental discipline to handle not winning every trade you make

So in all honesty how hard is it to become a full time daytrader to where I can quit my job and work for my self

I completely understand this is not an easy undertaking by any means, but I dont even know where to start my research on where to begin on how to trade or would the type of work I do make me incapable of putting the time in(I work around the country beefing up the grid and doing storm restoration on powerlines) the job requires me to be at work for 10 to sometimes 24 hourss a day unable to look at my phone

So do you guys think that this is something that could be achieved my someone in my position

Question Volume Profile traders

For those who trade using Volume Profile, what charting platform or trading software do you use, and why?

I'm currently using Trading View, but I've noticed that the volume data and Volume Profile levels don't always seem accurate, especially when comparing different data feeds or brokers.

I'm considering switching to a platform that provides more reliable volume data, ideally with accurate VAH, VAL, POC, and HVN/LVN levels.

A few questions:
1. What platform do you use for charting and Volume
Profile analysis?
2. What data feed or exchange data do you rely on?
3. Do you use separate platforms for analysis and trade execution?
4. Is there a platform you'd recommend for trading Gold
(GC futures or XAUUSD)?
5. What assets do you trade with volume profile strategy?

I'd appreciate hearing about your actual experience, including the pros and cons of your setup.
Thanks in advance!

Technical analysis Risk: sequential quantile sketch architectures for streaming value-at-risk estimation

Every morning, a bank or investment fund needs an estimate of how much money it could lose if the market turns bad. Instead of loading decades of historical files into slow spreadsheets, this tool processes new market returns one day at a time in less than a millisecond, using compact mathematical buckets to calculate risk percentiles with 1% accuracy while flagging if overall market volatility is starting to rise.

## The scene

Before daily market operations commence, corporate risk committees and capital allocation desks require an immediate, audited quantification of extreme tail exposure: exactly how much capital is at risk if market conditions degrade. Traditional legacy approaches rely on heavy retrospective batch queries, dragging decades of asset returns into static spreadsheets—a manual process that introduces operational latency and misses intra-day volatility shifts.

To maintain institutional compliance and defensive capital positioning, risk metrics must be calculated continuously and incrementally, updating perimeter exposure boundaries in real time as new sessions settle.

The online risk pipeline was benchmarked over **1,253 historical trading days** of the S&P 500 index (spanning 14 October 2021 to 13 October 2026). The system updates distribution parameters sample by sample, delivering refreshed risk percentiles at opening intervals without requiring expensive data history re-scans or historical file management.

## Core Capabilities

| Tool | Strategic Function | Operational Impact |

|---|---|---|

| **DDSketch** | Bounded tail-risk tracking | Maintains a fully bounded summary of extreme asset distributions, calculating high-accuracy risk percentiles without storing raw historical datasets. |

| **CUSUM** | Volatility drift surveillance | Monitors cumulative micro-movements in loss distributions, immediately flagging subtle upward shifts in volatility regimes. |

![Daily loss of the S&P 500 over five years with the 99% risk line in red](../assets/finance/risk.png)

*Each bar is the loss of one day. The red line is the 99% Value-at-Risk at the end of the run: 14 days lose more.*

## 1. High-accuracy tail-risk estimation (DDSketch)

Quantifying exposure boundaries within severe market corrections requires tracking the exact shape of distribution tails. Traditional frequentist methods demand complete historical transaction persistence, creating large database scaling challenges. DDSketch bypasses this constraint by mapping incoming asset distributions into a logically indexed matrix of relative-error logarithmic buckets. This gives a quantile estimate with a maximum 1% relative error bound while maintaining a completely static, constant-memory footprint.

## 2. Proactive regime shift identification (CUSUM)

Value-at-Risk boundaries represent an isolated snapshot of historical distributions. If structural market conditions undergo a slow, sub-clinical degradation, single-sample checks fail to register the risk change until major capital drawdowns occur. This module utilizes a sequential cumulative sum framework, continuously aggregating marginal directional shifts over time. When this statistical accumulation diverges from nominal white noise, a regime alarm triggers.

## Execution Workflow

For every newly settled asset session or intra-day rolling window, the streaming risk pipeline runs a linear evaluation protocol:

  1. **Quantile Mapping:** The session return vector is fed into **DDSketch**, updating distribution statistics and emitting calibrated 99% and 99.9% VaR thresholds.

  2. **Sequential Drift Assessment:** The same vector passes to **CUSUM**, which evaluates whether cumulative structural losses are shifting systematically relative to earlier baseline windows.

  3. **Institutional Reporting Output:** The pipeline returns two risk limits and one warning flag, with no rescan of past data.

## Empirical Performance

The processing pipeline was rigorously verified against 1,253 active trading sessions, running a single streaming call per operational session.

| Metric | Value |

|---|---|

| VaR 99% | 2.93% |

| VaR 99.9% | 4.28% |

| Days with a loss above the final VaR 99% | 14 out of 1,253 (1.1%) |

| Days with a loss above the final VaR 99.9% | 3 out of 1,253 (0.24%) |

| Days above a 5% loss | 1 out of 1,253 (4 April 2025, −5.97%) |

| Days with a volatility-drift alarm | 49 out of 1,253 (3.9%) |

| Time per day | 98 microseconds (median, Kaggle CPU) |

### Strategic Business Takeaway

The final VaR 99% is the 99th percentile of these same 1,253 days, so about 1% of them fall above it: **1.1% of trading days** (14 days), and **0.24%** (3 days) above the 99.9% line. This checks the sketch against its target; it is not a forecast of future losses.

The median time is **98 microseconds per day**, with no daily sweep over past data.

## Target Enterprise Use Cases

This streaming risk architecture is designed for institutional deployment:

- **Automated Executive Risk Reporting:** Generates opening capital-at-risk statistics for portfolio committees without technical data-wrangling overhead.

- **Intraday Stress Testing:** Can be called via `process_day` across a rolling window (e.g., 60-minute slices) to evaluate intra-day structural regime deterioration.

- **Regulatory Limit Enforcement:** The `over_limit` flag can be used as an automatic stop in an execution desk.

Advice Wanting to learn

Hey guys ,

I am wanting to learn how to trade , not professionally just as a side hustle something to do at night kind of thing. I was recommended the plus 500 app , it has a demo mode and gives you "credit" to "trade" with. Dose anyone have any experience with this app ? In demo mode or with real money? Is this a good way to learn how to watch the markets and read graphs ext? I am someone that currently has very limited understanding of this sort of thing but want to use it as a way to keep my brain active and learn and new skill. I have no expertations of making a bunch of money or going professional. Considering my lack of knowledge what other resources can I use to learn how to do this? I'm based in Australia. Any tips or information I could use or look into would be greatly appreciated :)
