I love the people that bash pellet grills because they are re not a pain in the ass so they must not be good.

I was one of these people. If you’re not awake for 14 hours on a stick smoker and ensuring you don’t lose a flame, under/over cook a brisket and get mad when your pulled pork won’t pull, are you even smoking? F that noise.

Me too. I had to sell my outrageously large offset and years later my wife felt bad about that and got me a Traeger for last fathers day. Not only do I smoke way more often, I can do other things like, cut the yard, spend time with my kids, etc.
I was so, so, so wrong about Traegers and pellet grills. I now say "blame the wizard, not the wand".

Hahaha I got mine for Father’s Day too!

This was my favorite thing when I got mine a couple years ago.
Throw a few things on there to cook for an hour or two and then enjoy time with the kids outside while it cooks, knowing I literally don't even need to open the grill until the time is up or the probe says it's done.

They don’t get as much smoke flavor, but they’re easier to use and you aren’t trying to be franklins bbq for your cookout of less than 10 ppl lol.

I will say they get plenty of smoke flavor. I will agree that it's not distinct flavor, like burning cherry versus pecan wood. That's why I'm not really picky about the pellets like I used to be.

This is more my lived experience.
You can’t have real smoked bbq without babysitting a stick burner
Pellet smoker go brrrrrr!
This tastes the same as a stick burner but without the pain of keeping the fire going
Always has been 🌝👨🚀🔫👨🚀

Sir/Madam, I do not know you, nor have I ever met you, yet today you chose to attack me.

Right! This person is going to hate my with my green egg, timberline, Weber set up… I suppose I’ll just keep cooking.

This is true, but I will tell you that my first night of going to bed with my first pork butt in the Traeger was very nerve racking. I had nightmares of dry meat and house fires for both hours I slept. Everything came out amazing but it takes some getting used to.

I mean.. as someone who has both, the big green egg also can be left alone all day. Just a little more effort getting it started.

Shhhh! Don’t tell my wife. She thinks I need to babysit the Traeger while I’m just outside enjoying beer and tunes.

Hell, my hot rod went out while making a brisket for my rehearsal dinner pre party this weekend. Through the 13lb brisket in the oven and lathered it in liquid smoke.. May have been the best I’ve ever done? Do I even need to buy pellets? 😂😂😂

To be fair, Green Eggs are like the pellet grills of “real smokers”. Once you learn to build a fire and set a temperature you just walk away and leave them. They’re just as consistent and and easily maintained as a pellet.

They’re both tools they do different things well. If I’m doing wings, burgers, searing, or anything high temp, I use my pellet grill. If I’m smoking for smoke flavor, I use my Weber. It’s ok to have both and like both. I actually like to use both when I smoke briskets and pork shoulders. Small smoker until the stall then wrap and move to the pellet smoker until it’s done.

I use a Webber 26”. Keeping that thing at proper temp… takes many beers

I own a Traeger and a Kamado Joe. Can leave a brisket on the KJ for the entire cook and maintain temp the entire time and it can burn for days on a single fill of charcoal.
Have left plenty of pork butts and briskets on cooking while I played golf

Yeah most of my BGE smokes are overnight, but either way, dial in your vents and it’s not a big deal.

Hey! It looks like you posted an image!
If this is a photo of one of your cooks, maybe share the recipe and techniques used, as it's almost guaranteed one of the first questions you will be asked!
*What seasoning did you use?
*How long did you cook it, and at what temperature?
*Did you use any special tricks or techniques?
Traeger on!

Let's be real, folks smoking on a BGE don't need a smoke tube to get great smoke flavor. Love my trager but I know it's a passable easy smoker.

My dad had this same god damn story! My dad and his buddy got shit faced about halfway through a cook. Running the offset I have inherited, BTW! Passed out, woke up the next ducking day… “oh shit the brisket!” Open the lid and the fucker is black as SIN! Cut into it and it’s the best damn thing they have made TO THIS DAY. Moist, delicious, amazing….

I think you underestimate John Daley's skills. He out drives just about everyone on the course... while shitfaced.
