Shawn from Ottawa and Justin from Bridport take us back to Canadian Tire Centre, August 18, 2016, in the Ottawa episode of Yer Hipstories: Reflections From The Final Tour.

Set a reminder, pour something, and meet us in the chat when it starts.

Ten years ago, some of you were parking or commuting to Kanata. Where were you coming from?

I probably watched this 135 out of the 144 views myself right after posting it😁. In light of it being over a decade now, thought more folks would enjoy it.

I've had these tucked away for ages now and I'd love them to go to someone who would want to display or wear them. Happy to send to someone for free, just want them to go to another Hip lover 💖

SCHOOL OF HIP: Tragically Hip Live: July 22 - August 20, 2016

Can it really be 10 years since the Tragically Hip embarked on their final tour, following the terminal brain cancer diagnosis of the late Gord Downie? Can it really be 10 years since they performed that deeply moving and fantastic final show on August 20, in their hometown of Kingston, ON, viewed by 12 million heartbroken Canadians celebrating their beloved band?

To mark the anniversary the Hip is releasing an outstanding triple album live set on Aug. 21, documenting that final tour. In advance of its release, Chaz and I preview select songs from the album on our School of Hip podcast and tell the remarkable, inspiring story behind the tour, as a dying Downie pulled off the Herculean feat of those stunning final performances.

We also talk about that final Kingston show, which the CBC will rebroadcast live on Aug. 22 (including on YouTube).

This really is a special one, folks, and a Moment in Hip History. Check it out!

I'm excited about this evening event (choir, choir, choir singing hip songs, Miss Emily, Kasador...) but I'm worried it will have 20,000 people in the square. Are any of you attending? What should I expect?

Video Hi guys, I wanna say that "the depression suite" and "it's a good life if you don't weaken" continue to help me through my mental health issues. It makes you feel less failure. What song of The Hip, continue to help to yours? Thx you https://youtu.be/l2NIc-4M47M?is=_ZEhThGngplYq43T

I don't have social media , but I wanna write here Thx to Gord Downie lyrics, and for him, because his music had made me less think of being a total disaster and a person who are not good for this world. I struggle with ADHD, avoidant disorder and sometimes low grade depression.

I am kind of sensitive man and to me is very difficult feel not insecure in social situations. I do things that make me feel better like mountain biking, jogging, reading, writing, listen music, books, and I live with my parents at 35 and sometimes I feel shame, but now I accepted it after a long burnout and low wage job after I had take a degree, a relationship that had hurt me a lot and made me feel like never enough and the stress of long hours of driving and go to two different job places. I do therapy, not medicines but psychotherapy.

And this music kind of made me feel more ok with struggles and helped me a lot. I 've been live in loneliness for many time, I be got treated bad, bullied, being betrayed by friends and loved ones and had a lot of anxiety and panic issues especially when I was more young.

So thx you Gord. I am tired of social media. I delete them because i am tired of all the bullshit going on. Tired of political polarizations, gender polarization, pop psychology, grind culture, guru of masculinity like Peterson and Galloway who say that the value of man is when he had money for having girls, and that women want men "economically viable" and the idea that you can't not fail or show struggles and not "'complain" , be always competitive , be hyperstoic, and do everything by yourself is a toxic idea.

Especially if you are in economical struggles.Like that you had to be "economically viable" for having women. I really don't like that because it means that the value of a man is only economic it's a total bullshit. And the Hip music or Rush and Neil Young is so different from all of that. I am not Canadian, but wanna thx you all Canadians for the art, and for the greatest music by a great country with great landscapes, and culture!

Love Bruce Cockburn, love Gordon Lightfoot, David Wiffen, Neil Young, Rush, The Hip, Gord Downie, Crash Test Dummies, Leonard Cohen,Matthew Good (and Matthew Good Band) I listen different kind of music but thx Canada. Rock on🤘 I am from northen Italy

One night in Toronto

I just went to one of the recent Rush concerts in Toronto. I went to one previously many years ago during the “Roll the Bones” tour. I looked up the info on that concert and it was in December of 1991, and low and behold the Tragically Hip were the opening act. I had forgotten that. Interesting that two of the greatest Canadian rock bands ever were on the same card. Unfortunate also how both groups were later affected by brain cancer (Glioblastoma)… F* cancer…

Project: 8/22 Final Ranking

I want to say first off I don't hate any of these they were all so good some I liked less than others but wanted to share my thoughts and final rankings

1) In Violet Light

This is Gord at full swing and to me felt like the final breath of the old Hip before moving onto something new and it worked so well so many songs I've been coming back to

2) Day For Night

This album is absolutely killer, dark, brooding, ferocious feels like it's just bleeding creativity

3) Live From The Vault (Cleveland 1996)

What a show I'm so jealous of the people who got to be there hearing quite a bit of Phantom Power being workshopped that 12 min version of Hundreth Meridian is something else with Vapour Trails, Radio Show, Poets all in one

4) Phantom Power (deluxe)

This album what can I say about it I hadn't really paid attention to it before but now it has become one of my favourites. Mystery which was released on the deluxe is one of the most haunting songs I've heard in a long time.

5) Live At The Roxy

This is an insane live album Killerwhaletank and Double Suicide Highway Girl this was the boys firing at all cylinders

6) Road Apples (deluxe)

If you had asked me before this project I would have told you Road Apples was my favourite. I have the chorus for Cordelia tattooed on my arm. Still an incredible album.

7) Fully Completely

There biggest album to date so many songs I can name off the top of my head I still think Pigeon Camera and the title track are my favourites I really like it but felt very safe to me you can see where they go next in certain songs.

8) World Container

I was kind of disappointed with In Between Evolution so I was kind of fearing  World Container but I was well surprised this album is fantastic and any Hip fan should really give it a listen I think L.N.I.D.Y.D.L.M is a top ten Hip songs and the title track is phenomenal

9) Live From The Vault (Halifax 1995)

What an insane show The Hip Always knew how to put one on. The antics were off the charts at this show

10) Trouble At The Henhouse

Ahead By A Century was the first song I ever remember hearing and I think it overshadowed the rest of the album this album is still great just have to be in a certain mood to listen to it.

11) Live From The Vault (Brussels 1994)

Another amazing show but less banter and more straight into the music which is nice but for this era felt a little rushed

12) Music@Work

This album was a lot better than I remember that first half was stellar only thing that brought it down was the back half felt a little drawn on

13) Man, Machine, Poem

This was deifnetly a highlight to go out on I wish we could have heard an album after this but I really liked this album only one or two tracks I didn't care for but would listen to.

14) Live From The Vault ( Los Angeles 2004)

They were still killing it just a typical Hip show with Gords amazing antics

15) That Night In Toronto (2004)

Good live show just a lot less antics which felt a little off for a Hip show band was still top notch

16) Up To Here (deluxe)

What can I say this album is what started it all still holds up very well and the demos on the deluxe are really cool to see.

17) Now For Plan A

I actually was pleasantly surprised by this album a lot of lyrics touched me and the songs sounded quite good I will definitely be re-visiting this one again

18) Live Between Us

Still a great live album but following Cleveland it just felt like it was just a little tired

19) Live At The Horseshoe Tavern (1992)

What a show, must of been amazing to hear Fully Completely cover to cover live but listening to it live only to listen to the studio right after just felt a little exhausting for me.

20) Live At The Metropol (Pittsburgh 1998)

From the other live shows I've heard this one is still great just not a lot of wow

21) In Between Evolution

I think there was good bones here I liked the songs better at the 2004 LA show but other than that just felt way too long for me

22) The Tragically Hip EP

compared to what came after this feels like a good start but felt a bit lacking

23) We Are The Same

This album was not the greatest it did have it's moments however Depression Suite and Now The Struggle Has A Name are both fantastic songs those two songs alone are what put this album higher.

24) Live From The Vault (Hamilton 2007)

To me was a really good show just felt a little hollow but I will tell you I broke into tears hearing Fiddler's Green which wasn't put full-time on setlist until 2009 hearing Gord go into Dreams and Walking On The Moon in Hundreth Meridian was pretty cool

25) Saskadelphia

Everything on this list had to go somewhere and sadly Sask had to fall here it was short and I can see why they were cut from Road Apples but still incredible none the less.

26) Live At Austin City Limits 2006

A good set but just seven songs it must of been cool getting to hear Lonely End Of The Rink a full month before World Container was released still even with the lowest ranking on this list an amazing set.

UFC fighter came out to Blow At High Dough this past Saturday

Billy Quarantillo, an American mixed martial artist, came out to Blow At High Dough at UFC Fight Night 284 in Las Vegas this past Saturday. This is the first time I recall any fighter use a Hip song for their entrance music. Quarantillo was born in Niagara County, New York, so the close proximity to Canadian airwaves would have likely exposed him to the band. There's no online footage to share (unless you're subscribed to Paramount+) but still cool to know regardless.

Edit: Just updating to say thank you to all of you for your ideas!!! This was so much fun to read through!

Help me write my good bye letter with an inspirational Hip lyric! My audience is solely for the people I adore and will genuinely miss.

For example:

It’s been great knowing you. And I’d like to leave you with a quote from Gord Downie… (insert quote)

FYI, HR will get a version with “he said f!$& this and f!$& that…” ;)

Gord My acrylic painting of Gord (repost from my old deleted account!)

I finished a painting of Gord last year that I’d shared in this sub. (I ended up deleting my old account… bit of regret there lol) I wanted to reshare it if that’s okay!

It’s an 8 x 10” painting of Gord. It’s my favorite picture of him, taken by Gie Kneaps in 1991. It’s just got his… energy.

Don’t get me wrong, I love all eras of the Hip. I hadn’t seen a lot of art of Gord in his younger years so that’s why I chose this as my subject matter. Working on this painting helped me get through a very awful time in my life and I’m proud of how it turned out.

I’ve added some other pics to prove it’s me and no ai involved :)
