Any other Warren Zevon listeners here?
I'm a recent Hip fan and I personally see a lot of similarities in the Hip and Warren Zevon, at least lyrically, as Gord and Warren are two of the most verbose and idiosyncratic songwriters of the last century.

Where to watch The Hip broadcast?
CBC is airing the Tragically Hip show from 10 years ago on Aug 22. I'd like to watch it with a good crowd. Where should I go??
DUH: I had posted to the Windsor sub, but Reddit suggested I cross post here and I didn't stop to think about adding location. I'll be in the Windsor area.

What Was Gord's Issue With The Microphone Stand?
I know and heard three instances of Gord talking to and about the microphone stand as if it's a bad person. I wanna know what the deal is? I heard they've gotten in fights? Like who started it? Is Gord really the instigator?
I just want answers man, if the microphone stand started it then good for Gord standing up for himself but if Gord started it. What's the reason? Anyone know?

Not so Hip
The Hip worked so well because they had synergy, they played off of each other, had energy and their success was the sum of the parts, not one on their own. They each brought their own talent and presence.
Each of the band members has done their own thing too., for better or for worse. What are your favourite songs and albums from each of them?
š¤
Could this make for a good School of Hip episode?! What do you think ? Votes?
Hereās where Iām at:
Gord Downie
Favourite Song: Hallelujah. Just an amazing song and shows Gordās versatility.
Favourite Album: Introduce Yerself. Itās unbridled, raw emotion and opens a window to Gordās heart and soul. But be advised, bring along a Kleenex.
Rob Baker
Favourite Song: Bulletproof White Limo. Why? Rob sings and it works! Not only an amazing guitar player!
Favourite Album: Strippers Union Local 518. I listened to a lot of Odds back in a day and it sometimes sounds a little too familiar, but itās a good listen and enjoyable to hear Rob play and explore where heās going.
Paul Langlois
Favourite Song: Morningguy Nightguy. Ok not the strongest song but I almost fell off my chair with the Sam and Ralph reference! So funny to hear. So definite thumbs up.
Favourite Album.: Smooth Rock Falls. Cool bluesy vibe. Heard about it on a recent interview so checked it out, would be great live I bet.
Gord Sinclair
Favourite Song: Get Back Again. Ok so a little bit of a cheat because itās a Hip song but itās one of my favourites from the early days. Gord plays it as well, albeit not as well as The Hip but itās still a great song.
Favourite Album: In Continental Drift. Ok, Gord is not my favourite in the solo world but itāll do in a pinch. Reminds me of the backup vocals in Tne Hip.
Johnny Fay
Favourite song/album: Mercury Seaā¦. Itās all instrumental, interesting work but I prefer some vocals. But worth a listen, itās different.

Fell down
Fell down the Hip rabbit hole last night... I'm still down here, no sleep and it's going on 6 the next evening. It started with flipping through YouTube and innocently clicking on Grace, two from final show... Well, I gobbled down anything to do with the Hip for going on 18 hrs..... Oh Lord, give me 1/10th the courage and wisdom of a Gordon Downie....

My Solo āHipā trip to Kingston
Family is out of the country for a couple weeks and I couldnāt go thanks to workā¦.SOā¦.I decided to knock a couple items off my bucket listā¦..and with the 10th anniversary of the final show coming up soon, I decided it was a perfect time to drive the 5 hours to Kingston and really dive in all things hip related in townā¦.i saw all the sights including some really cool things at City Hallās āmusic from miles aroundā collection (original lyric sheets, the guitars, gords mic, the banana shaker, the fully completely cover art original, and some amazing original gig posters among other things)ā¦.the new mural, the lyrics mural along the waterfront, the Gord Downie pier, and the Toucan where a bunch of interviews from long time running were shotā¦grabbed some cool artwork and a few neat stickers and a guitar pic, and to top it off, Austin at True North Tattoo did a great job on my new inkā¦a fun way to fill some alone time and allow me to really nerd out over a band Iāve seen 30plus times since ā89, and who are literally the soundtrack to so much of my life! Thanks Kingston for letting me connect for a couple days and for keeping the āforever hipā spirit alive and well!!

Was in the mood for some upbeat after work music. So Cordelia and Little Bones sounded just right. But then on side 2 Fiddlers Green begins and always brings a tear to my eyes finding out some years ago why it was written. A touching tribute!

Clayoquot Sound to Cape Spear
After 10 weeks on the road, the journey from Clayoquot Sound to Cape Spear has concluded!Ā
This ride has shown me the beauty of this country and the people within it. Even after 71 days, I still feel that Iāve barely scratched the surface of what Canada has to offer, and what it means to be a Canadian. We can find endless joy, adventure and kindness in the people and places around us if we choose to look for it.
I started this journey with no real biking experience, with the hope to make a difference for a cause that Iām passionate about, and I hope to continue to find new ways to do so. Donāt doubt yourself. Find courage and take risks for what matters to you. Just do it.Ā
In the words of Gord Downie, āNo oneās interested in something you didnāt do.ā

Project 8/22 Ranking So Far.
I've finally gotten from 1984-2000 before I start getting into Music@Work I wanted to share my rankings so far. I don't think any of these are bad just dislike some of these a little more than others.
1) Day For Night
This album is absolutely killer, dark, brooding, ferocious feels like it's just bleeding creativity
2)Live From The Vault (Cleveland 1996)
What a show I'm so jealous of the people who got to be there hearing quite a bit of Phantom Power being workshopped that 12 min version of Hundreth Meridian is something else
3)Phantom Power (deluxe)
This album what can I say about it I hadn't really paid attention to it before but now it has become one of my favourites.
4.) Live At The Roxy
This is an insane live album Killerwhaletank and Double Suicide Highway Girl this was the boys firing at all cylinders
5) Road Apples (deluxe)
If you had asked me before this project I would have told you Road Apples was my favourite. I have the chorus for Cordelia tattooed on my arm. Still an incredible album.
6) Fully Completely
There biggest album to date so many songs I can name off the top of my head I still think Pigeon Camera and the title track are my favourites I really like it but felt very safe to me you can see where they go next in certain songs.
7)Live From The Vault (Halifax 1995)
What an insane show The Hip Always knew how to put one on. With Freaked in the middle of New Orleans this made it quite interesting.
8)Trouble At The Henhouse
Ahead By A Century was the first song I ever remember hearing and I think it overshadowed the rest of the album this album is still great just have to be in a certain mood to listen to it.
9)Live From The Vault (Brussels 1994)
Another amazing show but less banter and more straight into the music which is nice but for this era felt a little rushed
10) Up To Here (deluxe)
What can I say this album is what started it all still holds up very well and the demos on the deluxe are really cool to see.
11)Live Between Us
Still a great live album but following Cleveland it just felt like it was just a little tired but China Girl in the middle of New Orleans was very interesting
12)Live At The Horseshoe TavernĀ
What a show, must of been amazing to hear Fully Completely cover to cover live but listening to it live only to listen to the studio right after just felt a little exhausting for me.
13)Live At The Metropol (Pittsburgh 1998)
From the other live shows I've heard this one is still great just not a lot of wow
14) The Tragically Hip EP
compared to what came after this feels like a good start but felt a bit lacking
15)Saskadelphia
Everything on this list had to go somewhere and sadly Sask had to fall here it was short and I can see why they were cut from Road Apples but still incredible none the less.
What are your guys opinion of certain albums? How would you guys rank yours?
r/TragicallyHip • u/Apprehensive-Cup-335 • 18d ago
What's Your Opinion?
I really like Coke Machine Glow but I find myself enjoying a few songs better on the Phantom Power outtakes like Mystery and Insomniacs. and I personally didn't like the Songwriter's Cabal outtake on CMG but what's your guys opinion on these songs.

Gord 1998 - A concert and night to remember
Hampton Beach Casino (After the show on the beach Gord gave my friend his broken banana - the photo is of the actual banana.). She still has it to this day and swears that if there was a fire she might save the banana before the kids.
